Anchors Aweigh Nautical Styles

Hello-Hello, and welcome to a one-topic Tuesday!

The title of today’s post provides ample insight on our topic, nautically inclined style. Always a favorite here at the Prepatorium, we can never achieve the nautical bliss found at the one and only Nautical by Nature, but we do make an occasional foray into the topic.

We begin with a look at the Brooks Brothers Nautical Triangle Silk Scarf in either navy or red.

For the MOTH (Man of the House) Brooks offers a snappy Nautical Belt; we are also fond of our Princess Ribbon Belts (at almost two-thirds less in cost), both styles ideal with a pair of khakis.

While visiting Saks (in a cyber sense) the Roberto Coin Anchor necklace caught our eye, as did the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Nautical Sweater Dress.

Technically sans anchors, we still thought the Navy Sailboat Dress from Parker warranted a look; it may be found at Revolve.

With temperatures more-than-a-little nippy, the French Sailor Scarf at LL Bean offers a snuggly boost to one’s wardrobe. (And it is only $19.95.)

One nautically inclined accessory we love, the Headbands from Kiel James Patrick. Not only are they very reasonable, we can actually wear them without contracting a major headache, a huge asset IOHO.

Accompanying the apron (if only because it coordinates so well) is the delightful book about one of our favorite stores, Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart.  As described by the publisher, the book tells the story of author Marjorie Hart’s summer working at Tiffany with a friend:

Your Condo. Next door to Barneys, Kate Spade and Tiffany.

The Princess brings you only the truth as she sees it, and this instance is no different. Or as was said in The Princess Diaries, “It’s twue, it’s twue.” We’re talking (of course) about the Americana at Brand shopping/condo/apartment complex in Glendale, California. Developers of this project also did The Grove in the Fairfax section of Los Angeles. The ‘official’ opening for the we-are-so-not-a-mall development is this Friday, May 2nd. If you want to watch the countdown clock, just visit the Americana blog.

Among the “utterly divine” places awaiting your American Excess card? Barney’s New York Co-op is a no-brainer IMHO, as are Tiffany, Kate Spade and Calvin Klein. Exploring the first Peter Alexander store in the US (an Aussie with to-die-for jammies and other goodies) will be fun, as will popping into Lacoste and Vera Bradley.

Here is the interesting part of the equation: this is not “just a shopping center.” For those desirous of the convenience of crawling out of bed and walking out the door to J. Crew or perhaps Martin & Osa, this is your answer. There will be 238 rental apartments in the $2,000 to $5,500 per month range plus 100 condominium homes starting in the low $700,000s and topping off near $2 million, very reasonable prices by southern California standards, even in this temporarily hiccuping economy. As if this were not enough, the fountain at Americana will dance to a variety of melodies, including “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything” by Barry White and “The Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli. The Americana blog shares more insightful information on the fountain, saying “Eat your heart out Sin City… there’s a new fountain in town!”  Indeed.

Pottery Barn Kids, Elaine Turner update

In today’s Preppy Bytes we think the first item below represents a great business marriage (for lack of a better term) between the marketing mavens at Pottery Barn Kids and the brilliant women who own Hable Construction. Word that Pottery Barn will be using Hable’s absolutely wonderful fabric on some of its new Pottery Barn Kids custom nursery furniture, like the Lullaby Swivel Glider and Ottoman. Hable has long been a favorite for those shopping the Garnet Hill catalog The textiles from Hable are out of this world, and the two sisters who own the company are very savvy business strategists.

Hable is just uber-creative, and when popping over to peek at their site, we found the adorable Round wool felt box in Pink Lollipop, as well as their wonderful Jade Fig Canvas Sunhat or gardening hat. The colors at Hable are bright and cheery, the designs are to-die-for and the accessory line offers wonderful choices as well.

Byte #2: Also bright and cheery while retaining its timeless elegance is the Elaine Turner Sconset Terah Large’ Tote bag at Nordstrom we showcased in a post yesterday. Apparently Nordstrom is out of stock on this item. However, a savvy reader (you know who you are!) has alerted us to the availability of another Elaine Turner bag in that same Poppy print! Not only does it appear to be available, but for anyone thinking about economizing on handbags it is offered at a great price. The good folks at eFashionHouse.com have the Turner Beach Tote in all its bright and roomy wonder, ideal for almost any occasion!
