Friday Fun That’s Peepalicious, A New Nautical Collection

Hello and Happy Friday.

We begin with one of our favorite events this time of year, the Annual Washington Post Peeps Diorama contest.  As explained in the paper’s story about the event:

After six years, our annual Peeps Diorama contest has become a survey of all that touches and taunts our collective consciousness, an anthology of absurd, artistic triumphs displayed through malleable marshmallow rabbits and chicks.

As always with this contest, art imitated life, highlighting the farcical fabulousness of human behavior long after submissions stopped pouring in.

This year’s winner: OccuPeep D.C., seen above and in the next photo.

One of the finalists played off a popular internet meme with “What People Think Peeps Are“:

Below we see two examples of that, the one on the right  is meant to show how Peeps’ parent company, Just Born, feels about the concoction, portraying them as saintly beings generating a little cash.

Of course we saw a takeoff on the Royal Wedding.

My favorite part of this one is the person carrying the bride’s train, “Peepa”.

Semifinalists included the GOPeeps Peepadential Debate.

And a takeoff on a classic Beach Boys album cover.

A personal favorite is Welcome Home Peeps, showing a scene at BWI during a “Operation Welcome Home Maryland” event greeting returning troops.

There are loads more fun dioramas, including Peepdom Abbey, The Boston Peeps (as opposed to the Pops), even a scene showcasing one of our AntiPreps, Peeping up with the Kardashians. For all of the Post’s Peeps contest coverage, click here.

BTW, for anyone who may have given up sweets as a Lenten devotion there’s something that could help tide you over until you can say nibble on one, say hello to the Giant Peeps Plush Bunny.

Peeps and Company

It’s the traditional Peeps Bunny captured in a larger than life 2′ 7″ plush toy. They are awfully cute critters but the price is not as nice: $150, ouch.

Our other topic today involves a talented twosome readers have seen us write about before, Kiel and Sarah of Kiel James Patrick renown.

Kiel James Patrick Tumblr

In addition to everything she already does with the company she and Kiel have, Sarah Vickers is branching out.

Preppy Princess.com

Now on their way to the Prepatorium, those are pieces from the recently launched collection created by Stacie of the Pink Pineapple showcasing some of Sarah’s favorite motifs.  The “Cape Breeze” Bangles ($28) are in the top photo, one of the Port Anchorage Toggle Bracelets ($32) is shown in the lower photo.

Ms. Vickers has also debuted her own blog recently, “Classy Girls Wear Pearls,” as well as a rapidly growing Facebook page.

It’s no surprise the new collection has a decidedly nautical aesthetic. Below we show the Atlantic Triton Earrings ($25), Anchor Link Bracelet ($68) and the Enamel Anchor Cuff ($36), available in Aqua, Navy and White. The latter two items will be arriving in several weeks, but we are accepting pre-orders.

A reminder for frugal shoppers, this Sunday and Monday is the Annual Preppy Princess “I’m No Fool” April’s Fool Day sale, with the entire store 20% off. That doesn’t include merchandise receiving additional discounts, like our Jonathan Adler iPhone 3 Covers, already discounted 23% to $15, that means they will only be $12 with your sale savings.

This year the Sale is a two-day event; the 1st is Palm Sunday and it wouldn’t do to suggest shopping on that day. For those interested in the new new collection, those items will be included in the sale, even those that are pre-order only pieces. We’ll have a full listing in Monday’s blog, to receive the discount be sure and enter APRILDEAL at checkout.

Lilly LeSportsac Collection, Serious Sales & Savings

Hello-Hello and greetings from The Great Midwest, where it is snowing. Heavily. You shall hear no complaints from the Prepatorium however, as we have had quite the easy winter, nothing like so many other parts of the country.

We have something to brighten the day for those fond of Lilly Pulitzer: the new collaboration with LeSportsac is now available for pre-ordering at some Lilly shops.  The Ocean Palm is one such shop; below we show the Everygirl Tote in Purrrfect Patch.

LeSportsac at Ocean Palm

The other patterns in this collection are Hip Hop Hooray, with a sunny citrus feel, and She’s a Piston.

The Deluxe version of the Totes runs $98 with smaller sizes priced at $78 and $62.

In the Pink is also offering the new collection on their site; below we see the Mini Backpack ($62) and Lily Wallet (that really is the name).

The collection ships April 15 – 25 according to the Ocean Palm site.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We have a few Sales and Savings opportunities that are too good not to share, beginning with Polo Ralph Lauren.  The retailer is doing a ‘Last Chance’ promotion, offering an additional 20% off sale prices. This would make the Evelina Velvet Jacket a much more reasonable investment (now $375 from $1398) and the Ginny Cotton Sweater tough to turn down at about $24.

The always fabulous A. Tierney is also offering amazing incredible savings, including their Enamel Bangle Bracelets at only $5.

Also only $5, these darling Toddler Baseball Caps, today’s Pretty in Pink (and green).

We know everyone else is promoting special savings, and in most cases, rightly so, but we couldn’t resist sharing these offers, they seem very appealing. (Psst, if perusing the Lilly LeSportsac collection at either In the Pink or Ocean Palm you may want to browse their online clearance sections as well.)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We thought it appropriate to share the reaction to ‘snowpocalypse’ from one of our office mates here at Princess InterGalactic HQ.

With apologies to those following us on Twitter (for whom this may be repetitious), we couldn’t resist the latest from TillyVille.

With that we say g’bye until next time, with hopes you are warm and snuggly where you may be today.

Anchors Aweigh Nautical Styles

Hello-Hello, and welcome to a one-topic Tuesday!

The title of today’s post provides ample insight on our topic, nautically inclined style. Always a favorite here at the Prepatorium, we can never achieve the nautical bliss found at the one and only Nautical by Nature, but we do make an occasional foray into the topic.

We begin with a look at the Brooks Brothers Nautical Triangle Silk Scarf in either navy or red.

.

For the MOTH (Man of the House) Brooks offers a snappy Nautical Belt; we are also fond of our Princess Ribbon Belts (at almost two-thirds less in cost), both styles ideal with a pair of khakis.

.

.

.

.

.

.

On the apparel front, Ralph Lauren’s Ricky Anchor Crest shirt may be found at Saks.

While visiting Saks (in a cyber sense) the Roberto Coin Anchor necklace caught our eye, as did the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Nautical Sweater Dress.

.

Technically sans anchors, we still thought the Navy Sailboat Dress from Parker warranted a look; it may be found at Revolve.

With temperatures more-than-a-little nippy, the French Sailor Scarf at LL Bean offers a snuggly boost to one’s wardrobe. (And it is only $19.95.)

LL Bean

Bean’s packable Anchors Umbrella could actually make a great gift for someone.

LL Bean

Not to be left out, Targét offers the Nautical Patch crib sheet.

Target.com

The Anchors Print Bikini Top and matching Bikini Bottom (also at Target) are sized for Juniors.

A perfect addition to almost any party, the anchor Beach Ball at Target.

Target.com

The next item prompts a query: how do parents resist purchasing hundreds of pair of shoes for the little ones with so many peaking the Cute-o-meter in the red zone?!?

The Anchor Shoes shown below are for 12-18 month-year-old children.

Babies r Us

The Sailboat Baby Shoes by Jack and Lily also pack an adorable punch.

EverAfterStore.com

Something fun for Mom, the Betseyville Baylee in pink or green; the anchor button decoration adds a nice touch.

The Betseyville offerings at Overstock also include the Brooklee and the Brinda.

The Anya Hindmarch Boat Tote at Saks is available for pre-order only, it has a nice, clean look.

SFA

One nautically inclined accessory we love, the Headbands from Kiel James Patrick. Not only are they very reasonable, we can actually wear them without contracting a major headache, a huge asset IOHO.

The goods Mr. Patrick creates are authentically prep; we enjoy his bracelets, like the Lackatough Stoughton Cog, featuring classic grosgrain ribbon layered over silk rep tie fabric atop a base layer of madras.

KielJamesPatrick.com

We appreciate knowing all the items are made in the USA, and also respect the classic materials used in each item.  The Consort is obsessed very fond of his Mariner & Cape Poge Bay bracelet.

.

.

.

.

.

.

We first mentioned Mr. Patrick’s line way back in 2008 in this post; there are now fabulous Ear Knots available from this designer.

The varying styles of bracelets are also tempting.

The site really is a fun place to shop, we could get into big trouble if dallying too long. Sigh.

We are off to our volunteer shift for the afternoon, we hope the sun is shining wherever you may be!

The New Tiffany Tote Bag + Preppy Needlepoint

Hello and aren’t we happy-happy-happy it is a bright and beautiful Tuesday?! Tis a privilege to be on the third coast where it is bright and sunny, low humidity and high excitement at the Merchandise Mart! We owe a ‘Thank You’ for the lovely weather to Erin (Third Coast Preppy) who promised the Princess Consort it would be this way!

After designing our exclusive placemats, napkins and other goodies, there is nothing quite so fun as buying trips to find the latest and greatest in preppy goodies for the Preppy Princess. That’s where we are, on the road looking for the ‘newest and coolest’ in personal and home accessories.

Speaking of new… has anyone seen these yet? We just stumbled upon them while looking up another item at Tiffany’s. (Yes, to be accurate it is singular, Tiffany, but we’re feeling slightly sloppy this morning.) These are new, at least to The Princess, canvas with leather trim, and only available online.

The Tiffany Tote (our name – Tiffany is simply calling them ‘Pink Tote,’ ‘Brown Tote,’ etc.) seems more like a handbag to TP; regardless of name, we must admit they actually seem kind of cool. The website describes them this way:

Carry yourself with style. Tote in canvas with pink leather. 15.5 x 7.25 x 15.5″. Available exclusively on Tiffany.com.

The totes don’t look like they are really 16″ square from the photos; they seem wider than they are tall, but they do look good-sized. At $395 they are not inexpensive but their lines are clean and timeless. (There is also a white patent leather version of the tote we do not show in the photos.) We’re pretty sure this is one that will be in style next year and the year after that and the year after that. In other words, a good investment if you love the look. Of course, we would remove these pesky things lest the LogoPhobia kick in:

Discounting the easily removable leather logo tag (at least it looks easily removable) this is one handbag or purse or tote or whatever we might be able to establish a relationship with, one we could learn to like, even grow to love. TP would even consider overlooking her bitter and hostile feelings minor concerns (minor?!) about the Tiffany Eyeglasses and think about acquiring one of these. For new readers this means overlooking Tiffany logos the size of Lake Michigan on said eyeglasses. (We have discussed the tedious topic in previous posts and don’t want to bore anyone else with the background.)

Does anyone else think this is reminiscent of other retailers who have branched out into new markets? Cartier does handbags in addition to other personal accessories, and Bulgari comes to mind as a jeweler that extended its brand into new markets, especially leather goods. As an example, we see the Baby Panther Mobile Phone Strap from Cartier below.

On the other hand Fendi started as a small Italian fur and leather company that expanded into more apparel. These are a few looks from their Resort 2009 RTW (Ready to Wear) Collection, so they aren’t commercially available.

Now because it held such a big role as Carrie Bradshaw’s bag in Sex and the City, we simply must show the Fendi Baguette in shocking pink on sale at Bluefly.

You didn’t really think we would pass up the opportunity to do the pink and green thing did you? Here is the green one, also on sale at Bluefly Batcave.

Now, having shown with great fanfare the Polo Ralph Lauren Kids Paint Your Own Polos we were amazed to learn about this: the Fendi Paint Your Own Baguette!

This one was released months ago, back in February or March. It was greeted with almost universal disdain and resentment, people were simply aghast at the thought of $1300 for a white canvas bag with 10 magic markers as they saw it. It is still available at numerous sites if you are so inclined, like eluxury.com and Needless Markup Neiman Marcus.

Everywhere we see stories about the renaissance of needlepoint, although it really never went away for some of us… did it for you? Anything promoting the art/craft is good and you won’t hear us denigrate the coverage. Besides, it is always fun to learn about new designs, including these from Jonathan Adler. The pillow in the top photograph is designed to look like very preppy grosgrain ribbon belts, and the smaller photo below shows Adler’s Ties Pillow, both really TDF (to die for) and great additions to almost any room at any of your homes.

Then we have these two, each of which is on sale, originally $165 and now $98, quite the bargain. We show the set, but the Queen of Hearts and Ace of Spades pillows *are* sold individually so the set of two would run $196.
