Talbots Spring 2011 & Some Serious Tiffany Blue

Hello-Hello, happy Wednesday! Here at the Prepatorium we almost hear faint echos of “There’s Got to be a Morning After,” a comment made without a red, blue or purple influence, merely a means of saying we need to look at something lighter and brighter today, oui?

Fitting nicely in that category, the Talbots collection for Spring 2011.  We begin with two looks we love, both with an appealing and easy elegance.

Two ensembles that are a little too figure-hugging for this decrepit old woman. (Heh, heh, heh.)

Style has more on what inspired the designs in their story on the collection:

“… the 1950’s and the spiritual setting was Paris, so the silhouette is hourglass and the palette is macaroon bright.”

That Parisian influence is seen in almost every look.

We do note the fifties figure referenced, but not the “macaroon bright’ palette, at least we don’t see it in the images shown online. There are a lot of muted colors and hues.

The Style article touches on the retailer’s continued efforts at overhauling the brand, its image and its merchandise.

“But not to worry, Talbots has no intention of alienating its core audience. The classic blazer, cardigan, and white shirt are all still here, but with updated, “Grandma, can I borrow this?” fits.”

From comments left after previous posts about Talbots we know some readers are enjoying the new look, but others are not; here are two looks we aren’t crazy about.

They aren’t hideosities, just not for us. Back to the collection.

More nipped in waists and full skirts.

Cropped dress pants appear to be with us for many seasons to come.

The style on the left is pure Betty Draper, and the sheath on the right might also work in that capacity.

We are guessing that many of the fabrics used are better appreciated in person, silks and tweeds with a lush feel that feel better in the hand than they appear online.  While more than fond of basics in neutral tones, the lack of bright colors that really pop is disheartening. To see all of the images at Style, click here.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Next on our list of less intense topics, football players and fashion.  Below left we see Calvin Pace and on the right, D’Brickshaw Ferguson (who looks enormous) from the New York Jets, they promenaded down the runway as a fundraiser at Saks for the Jets Foundation.

Also looking stylish, Jim Leonard (L) and Kris Jenkins (R), the latter appearing even larger than Mr. Ferguson, if that is possible.

Women’s Wear Daily reports Mr. Jenkins’ custom-made sport coat was a 62 long.

Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany is almost as famous for its robin’s egg Tiffany Blue® as it is for its jewelry.  Every year the firm hosts a “Blue Book Gala,” where it showcases new merchandise. So how does one decorate for the event? Of course.

Tiffany & Co.

On hand for the gala, actress Byrdie Bell, adorned with (what else?) Tiffany jewels.

Tiffany & Co.

The company has posted a Facebook photo album with pictures of the event, should you be interested in seeing more images.

A few Pretty in Pink and Green goodies round out today’s fun and frivolity beginning with a sign of the season, the Lilly Pulitzer Christmas Ornament ($48) at Splash of Pink.

We also have Lilly Ornaments ($17.50) at The Princess.

One final note that *is* election-related, but we promise it falls in the fun and lighthearted category.  It involves yesterday’s post and this photo.

Do you see all of the literature stacked on the table? A comment on the post shares more:

“OMG. I am so excited to read this post today. The second picture down…yeah, I created that poster, brochure, and book. I never saw this photo before. Thanks for sharing!”

Kathleen at “Leggings are NOT Pants” shared that tidbit, very cool IOHO, and another great demonstration of why we so love the interwebs.

Goodbye until next time!

A Special Guest Visits The Princess

Hello-hello, welcome to a Wednesday, a special day for us here at the Prepatorium, because we have a fabulous guest post today.

The one and only Jennifer Solow, an amazing author and advertising whiz (she created the famous “Wendy” Snapple campaign, among many others), has a new book out next week, and it’s simply delightful.  Reading Jennifer’s The Aristobrats marks the first time in years we’ve read a book targeted at “tweens”. (Jennifer and I have discussed the fact that back in the day, we were merely “eleven” or perhaps “twelve,” life was much simpler then.)

To be candid, we were quite a tad skeptical about the book, especially considering the audience.  Silly Princess. We were more-than-pleasantly-surprised at how entertaining the story and characters were! As Jennifer explains, the book is about four close friends who’ve been waiting their whole lives for eighth grade.

“It’s finally their big year and they’re determined to set a good example for the underpopular. With main characters who are undyingly loyal and, hello…nice, it’s a kind of anti-Clique book in my mind.”

Jennifer drew upon her own background in writing the book:

“The uber-preppy world of their story was inspired by my own experience at prep school: Madras plaid, Tiffany lockets, grosgrain ribbon watchbands, L.L. Bean Blucher moccasins, wool duffel coats.

In chatting with Jennifer we discovered we share many of the same interests, including something close to the heart: clothing, shoes, accessories…. you know the drill.  We ended up thinking it would be fun for Jennifer to write a little post about her imaginary wardrobe, not unlike the one yours truly has dreamed about.  Sigh.  So without droning on further, here are some of Jennifer’s thoughts on the topic!

Literary Must-Haves

The best thing about writing is all the free stuff. No, that doesn’t mean that John Galliano, upon reading my latest endeavor, immediately sends over a rack of couture gowns for me to wear to my book launch party. And no, the security guards from Harry Winston haven’t shown up either. The stuff is in my imagination – a veritable Vogue closet of the mind.

It’s quite unlike real life, where my own pursuit of the perfect white shirt has lasted more than two decades resulting in an overspending of the ugliest kind, and an entire section of my closet devoted to entirely un-perfect, and somewhat never-worn, white shirts. On paper, “the perfect white shirt” is just four little words; one doesn’t have to spend several hundred hours in the dressing room of Banana Republic growling and sweating (not that I do that or anything).

The “stuff” that surrounds fictional characters, and I count movies here along with books, has incredible power over me. My life changed when I first met Holly and the “ragbag colors of her boy’s hair, tawny streaks, strands of albino blond and yellow,” and her “slim cool black dress, black sandals, a pearl choker.” How many boxes of hair color did I buy in college in an attempt (a highly unsuccessful one, I might add) to define my own “ragbag of colors”? And my pursuit of that “slim, cool, black, Breakfast at Tiffany’s sort of dress” rivals that of my perfect white shirt.

And is it just me or is there a pink cashmere sweater that Lauren Hutton wears in American Gigolo that is the be-all-end-all of cashmere sweaters? I remember one very clearly even though I haven’t seen the movie in years. All those Armani suits? All that Richard Gere hunkiness? What do I remember – the thirty-second appearance of a cashmere sweater to die for.

For years the image of a specific trench coat stuck with me. It was from Lorrie Moore’s short story How to Be the Other Woman. It seemed to me the most wonderful image of a trench, quintessential in all its trenchy-ness. But I hadn’t read the story for a while so I just looked it up to see what all my fuss was about. This is all it says regarding my fantasy trench: “Meet in expensive beige raincoats, on a pea-soupy night. Like a detective movie.” Why did that stick with me for all those years? Even my Burberry can’t compete with that lingering image. So few words and Lorrie said it all.

And I admit – I’d love to own a pair of those boots Julia Roberts wears in Pretty Woman. You know the ones. Thigh high. Patent leather. (You’ll note the purely coincidental presence of Richard Gere once again.)

But I’ve actually tried these boots on, (I believe they came in size 6 to size 14, if you know what I mean) and they’re truly a terrible sight to behold…and uncomfortable as all get-out. But it doesn’t mean I still don’t want them – I just want the imaginary ones in my mind, the ones that glide effortlessly up my perfectly formed body-double’s legs.

Or…hmm…maybe I need to go shopping for a necklace later today. Specifically Kitty’s necklace from Anna Karenina: “The black velvet of her locket nestled with special tenderness round her neck. This ribbon was a darling; at home, regarding her neck in the looking glass, Kitty had felt that velvet was speaking.”

Doesn’t it sound simply divine? Do you think they have it at Neiman’s?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We can’t thank Jennifer enough for sharing such a wonderful post, just a taste of her abundant talents. (Also proof positive of why she’s a professional, and we’re just…well, an amateur!) But we must admit, that picture of the Pretty Woman poster is rather terrifying… to think the film came out in 1990?? Eeek!

At any rate, The Aristobrats comes out next Tuesday, it is loads of fun, as well as a good message for the young ladies we know, without being preachy or tedious.  To learn more, former Elle Editor Melissa Walker has a nifty post about the book today, or you can pop into the new Facebook page.

That’s it for today, we’ll be back tomorrow with more madness!

A Tiffany Christmas, and The Top 40 Preppies? Ummm….You Decide

Hello-Hello, and welcome to a Wednesday.

Before we do anything else, we want to announce the winner of our giveaway that offered one of these treasures:

Kiel James Patrick

Those are the new Croffix Sailing Belts from our friend, Kiel James Patrick.  The winner of a brand new belt in her choice of pattern and size is So Georgia, of the So Georgia blog.  If you could send us an email with your preference in style and size, we’ll get it ordered for you!  We also send Kiel and Sarah a congratulatory hug on launching the belts and a “thank you’ for doing the giveaway with us!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As predicted, the upcoming reprint of Take Ivy (explained here) and release of Lisa Birnbach’s True Prep is bringing increased attention to all manner of things deemed “preppy,” to wit, “The Top 40 Culturally Relevant Preppies” from FlavorWire. Coming in at #1?

Via FlavorWire.com

That distinction goes to Zack “Preppie” Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), Saved by the Bell. Many on the list are fictional, including The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Carlton Banks as portrayed by Alfonso Ribeiro.

Via FlavorWire.com

From the story:

“Ladies, locate your tennis skirts. Gents, dig up those Nantucket red pants. The New York Times and The Awl have called it: Preppie chic is back.”

Here are two real-life people included in the Top Ten.

Via FlavorWire.com

The list contains some glaring oddities (Gordon Gecko? Non, non, non, if anything he was a yuppie), but we don’t look upon it as something to be taken seriously, it is more of a fun foray into how others interpret the term. We giggled in delight upon seeing one of our Mad Men characters, Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser).

Via FlavorWire.com

Another quick bite from the post:

“So, in celebration of all things square and Country Club-approved, we have created a handy guide to the top 40 (get it?) most culturally relevant preppies.”

Many Princess readers will be pleased to see Lilly Pulitzer’s inclusion.

Via FlavorWire.com

Another style icon on the list of whom we are fond, René Lacoste.

Via FlavorWire.com

One last image from the list we simply can’t resist sharing?

Courtesy CW

Despite our doubts at the ‘cultural influence’ exerted by either Ed Westwick or his Gossip Girl character, Chuck Bass, we can’t pass up an opportunity to show one of the most hideous garments ever worn on a television show… again. That vest is truly a crime against fashion. (And honestly, the young man resembles a ferret, or another member of the rodent family.)

We highly recommend seeing the list in its entirety; if so inclined, click here. But you simply must return and tell us who’s on your list.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a somewhat related note, we want to thank our friend Leesa for tipping us off to September’s Vanity Fair cover:

Vanity Fair

No, we are not bloviating opining about Lady Gaga again. Look more closely at The Consort’s arrow-enhanced-image.

Vanity Fair

Yes, the red arrow points out the “The Return of the Official Preppy Handbook” headline.  From the magazine’s table of contents:

The Official Preppy Reboot

Thirty years ago, the best-selling Official Preppy Handbook codified the unspoken Wasp rules of conduct. In an excerpt from True Prep, Lisa Birnbach and designer Chip Kidd update prepster kitchens, careers, and colors.”

There you have it.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Our other item of note involves a sneak peek at Tiffany’s Christmas advertising campaign; the plugged-in folks at Fashionista have the story. Below, Doutzen Kroes, the model fronting the campaign, heads to the set.

Christopher Peterson/Fashionista

Ms. Kroes is three months along with a blessed event.

Christopher Peterson/Fashionista

She looks lovely, very much the Tiffany style.

Christopher Peterson/Fashionista

The finished product is clearly going to be classic Tiffany.

Christopher Peterson/Fashionista

Ho-ho-ho, enjoy the snow!

Wimbledon 2010: Polo Ralph Lauren & Tiffany Diamonds by the Yard

Hello-Hello, and Happy Tuesday!

We missed you yesterday, but the volume of inquiries about the wedding of Sweden’s Princess Victoria made us think it would be wise to leave up our Saturday post detailing the party frocks, heads of state in attendance, etc. But we are back today, and a good thing, as it is high party and sporting season.

Everyone knows Wimbledon is under way, and that means lots of activities on and off the court. We begin with some images from the official Pre-Party this past Saturday, on the left we see Venus Williams; sister Serena Williams may be seen on the right.

Celebrities (we use that word loosely) were also on hand, including the Sugababes singing group. (Do help TP out here, are we hopelessly out of touch to be unfamiliar with this group?)

Claire Greenway/Getty

Two more athletes in attendance, Maria Sharapova and Jelena Jankovic.

As many readers know, there is always another party this time of year, the Polo Ralph Lauren annual Wimbledon celebration.

Dave M. Benett/Getty

This year’s event was at the firm’s Bond Street store. Party-goers included Gwyneth Paltrow  and actor Matt LeBlanc, the latter wearing Ralph Lauren.

More atmosphere at the party venue, the PRL store in London.

Below, Jules Knight, Stephen Bowman, Oliver Baines and Humphrey Berney of Blake (we confess to looking this one up on Google, they all are in what is referred to as a ‘boy band’) on the blue carpet.

Dave M. Benett/Getty

Also attending the festivities, former Champion Boris Becker and his wife, Lily, seen below.

We thought Venus Williams looked elegant, and adore the pink/green necktie the gentleman on the right is sporting.

The event was a fundraiser for a British breast cancer organization, Too Many Women.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Mr. Becker’s connection with Polo Ralph Lauren can be seen in this ad showcasing the Wimbledon Ball Boys and Girls, all clad in Ralph Lauren designs.

This is the fourth year Mr. Lauren has designed the uniforms, although they are basically unchanged from last year. More on this topic tomorrow.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This year’s Wimbledon on-court fashion updates are many and varied, below we see Serena Williams in her new Nike look.

Toby Melville/Reuters

Maria Sharapova also wears a new style, also with a jacket over the dress, and also from Nike.

Suzanne Plunkett/Reuters

For more updates and information about the on-court fashions, pop over and visit Rich at Down The Line Tennis, as always, he is a much better source on the topic than we.  The most we can add is evidence that it is hot over at Centre Court.

Reuters

Yes, it looks very warm indeed.

Getty Images

Of course the uppermost image is a shirtless Roger Federer, the second is Rafael Nadal.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And our final fashion note comes via a Tiffany new release regarding the earrings Maria Sharapova will be wearing during Wimbledon. Some may recall the tennis star and Tiffany have a marketing agreement; she wears and publicizes a specific pair of Tiffany earrings during each Grand Slam event.

Courtesy Tiffany

Ms. Sharapova is wearing Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard®, here is a better look

The Tiffany website’s product description:

“Maria Sharapova, one of the world’s top tennis players, is wearing Elsa Peretti® Diamonds by the Yard® earrings at Wimbledon. Sterling silver drop earrings with round brilliant diamonds, for pierced ears. Carat total weight .30. Original designs copyrighted by Elsa Peretti.”

Until next time!

Sneak Peek at Narciso Rodriguez for eBay

Hello-Hello, did everyone manage to rest and rejuvenate this weekend? We hope so, this first week in February can be ever-so-dreary.

We begin with a look at the new Narciso Rodriguez line to be sold on eBay. That is not a typo or our Newzheimers kicking in, the designer really is opening an eBay store.

Some may recall initial news about the line when we originally mentioned it in September of last year.  The acclaimed designer is collaborating with eBay on a small collection, only eight pieces in total.

Women’s Wear Daily has an early look at the line:

“…more relaxed, accessible versions of the designer’s graphic classics, at considerably lower prices ($75 for a T-shirt; $350 for the reversible cotton coat).”

Here are a few more of George Chinsee’s photos from WWD’s story.

The Rodriguez eBay store is slated to open February 15.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We take a very quick look at a category we rarely venture into, ladies’ unmentionables. (Gasp!)  Some experts believe the lingerie market is bouncing back along with many other retail sectors.

PHOTO: Thomas Iannaccone/WWD

Above, Tommy Hilfiger’s cotton flannel sleepshirt and microfiber bra/undies for  next fall, below, a DKNY sleepwear look for fall/winter.

The DKNY could easily be today’s Pretty in Pink.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We move on to a topic many readers are already familiar with, the upcoming release of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland.

Disney

This is the 3-D version with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter; some might say “Not your mother’s Alice.”

The marketing bonanza tied into the movie is well underway, today we have a glance at several pieces by designer Tom Binns, beginning with his Shattered Teacups necklace.

Tom Binss via High Snobette

We found these images at High Snobette, the site has scads of photos from the line. Next, what we’re calling the “Off With Their Heads” necklace.

Tom Binns via High Snobette

Below, an amazing charm bracelet by Mr. Binns.

Tom Binns via High Snobette

The Los Angeles Times has more about the two lines Mr. Binns is doing:

“One is the six-piece, higher-priced, limited-edition Tom Binns for Walt Disney Signature collection (which will sell in the $1,000 to $2,000 range), and the other is a less expensive ($100 to $500) 35-piece Tom Binns for Disney Couture collection…  Both are slated to roll out for spring 2010.”

The film opens March 5.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Another PIP (Pretty in Pink) to ponder, the first in a series of new ads from Saks Fifth Avenue.

Gilles Bensimon for Saks Fifth Avenue

The Chanel dress and pumps look just delightful; to see an entire behind the scenes album showing how the ad was shot, pop over and visit the Saks Facebook page. (If feeling neighborly, do say hello to TP as well!)

We close with one more Pretty in Pink item, the Handbag Charm from Tiffany.

Tiffany & Co.

Frequent readers may recall our attachment to charms, whatever their composition, and this one is no exception.

With that, we say adieu until next time!

Tiffany Says Not in Our Backyard, Next Target Designers Revealed, Black Friday

Hello-Hello and welcome to a Monday!

We begin with a tale about Tiffany; this time it is the story of the luxury retailer’s lawsuit against its landlord in Century City (California).  It seems the jeweler is making it ever-so-clear they do not want fast-fashion merchandiser H&M as a neighbor. (As in H&M that just did the wildly popular ‘Jimmy Choo for H&M’ line, described in this post.)

Apparently Tiffany believes having H&M as a neighbor would be just this side of apocalyptic; the LA Times has more:

“H&M is not a luxury or upscale retailer. H&M is at best characterized as a ‘popular-price’ mass merchandise clothing retailer.”

“The location of the H&M store will cause irreparable injury to Tiffany’s business reputation as a luxury retailer, a reputation that Tiffany has enjoyed and worked hard to maintain for more than a century and a half,” the lawsuit said.”

While understanding a brand’s desire to protect its caché, the story points out that in Pasadena the two stores are almost next door to each other. Other stories on the topic wonder about Tiffany’s efforts to embrace the ‘aspirational shopper,’ those coveting upscale brands while also shopping mass retailers like H&M.

Courtesy Tiffany

Many such consumers are precisely the same customers fond of merchandise displaying a retailer’s logo, something Tiffany has marketed strongly the last several years.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. We do want to note this is not ‘new news,’ as we are wont to say; the original story broke in September and yours truly keeps forgetting to post it.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A few more retail notes today, including word on the next two accessories designers for Targèt; the Cynthia Vincent for Target collection will launch at Target stores nationwide and at Target.com from April 18, available through through July 1. Below, several styles from Ms. Vincent’s Fall 09 Collection.

Also, headwear from Eugenia Kim will debut next year, it is going to be the first hat launch in Target’s series of limited-time-only accessories. The Eugenia Kim for Target collection debuts April 18, running through June 20. Below, looks from the 2008 Eugenia Kim line.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There is also news that Forever 21 has launched its love and beauty cosmetic line.

Courtesy Forever 21 via WWD

Everything in the new line is priced at $10 or less; it all appears to be available online.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Before delving headfirst into our next topic it is time we are honest with our cherished readers; we do not participate in Black Friday.  It is really not our cup of tea; additionally, we are always blessed by a visit from The Queen Mother for Thanksgiving, precluding any chance to partake of the mayhem. Such a shame. (Cough-cough.)

We still desire to maintain contributions to the PPP (Pocketbook Protection Program), continuing efforts at providing a list of fiscally friendly locales for the upcoming frenzy.

To be fair, there are far too many special markdowns, discounts and promotions to accurately track; we are including those we believe to be of the most interest to our bloggy friends.

Here we go, beginning with Talbots, already offering 20% off merchandise and free shipping; use offer code 020556520 at checkout to receive the discounts.

Martin & Osa will discount all denim (regularly $89.50 – $120) and cashmere to $59 (regularly priced at $130 – $170).

  • Brooks Brothers: November 27th and Saturday, November 28th until 12:00 noon each day. Shop Early and receive an additional 15% off your entire purchase; receive an additional 5% when using your MasterCard or your Brooks Brothers Platinum MasterCard
  • J. Crew Outlet stores will take an additional 40% off Clearance merchandise before 8am Friday morning; clearly one should check with their local factory store for hours
    • Other discounts at Crew outlets  for the weekend include 30% – 50% off select holiday styles & 30 – 40% off select Crewcuts holiday styles
  • Tommy Hilfiger Factory Stores: 40% off the entire store all day on Black Friday (the 27th)
    • There are additional discounts for specific days, including the Wednesday before Thanksgiving; to download coupons providing these markdowns, click here.
  • Banana Republic Outlets: 40% Off Any Purchase
  • Old Navy stores: Open 12 – 7pm on Thanksgiving Day, & 3am – midnight on Black Friday, too many discounts to list
  • Henri Bendel 8-10am Friday:
    • Save 40% on all Cold Weather Knit Hats, Scarves & Gloves
    • Save 40% on Bath & Body Collection
    • Save 25% on Candle Collections, Home Fragrance, Sweet Treats
    • (After 10am these items remain on sale but at 25% off)
  • Macys.com continues its Thanksgiving sale with savings of 20% to 50%, ending 11/28.
  • Lacoste: 30% off everything in the store

We are still seeking verifiable information on the following stores: Ann Taylor & Ann Taylor Loft, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Polo Ralph Lauren & Polo Ralph Lauren Factory stores, Brooks Brothers Factory stores.

NOTE: Please be sure to note if we are citing discounts at regular stores and factory stores or outlets.  Be sure to let us know if you have information to share on any preptastic shopping opportunities and we’ll pass it along.  If looking for other products, here are some general Black Friday sites:

Savvy shoppers may remember that after all the Black Friday comes Cyber Monday: the day when online retailers offer special deals.  That tradition is alive and well here at The Princess, in fact, we’ll have a little surprise for what we’re calling Pink & Green Monday.

Until next time, do let us know if you

It’s That Time… Tennis, Tiffany and Fashion

Hello-Hello, we are ever-so-far-behind, having just walked in the door from being on the other side of the state most of the day, goodness, what a frenzy today has become! (But a good frenzy.) So we shall effort brevity, as difficult as that may be to comprehend coming from these quarters.

Today the talk is of tennis, US Open Tennis to be precise, accented with a little Tiffany and Cole-Haan thrown in for good measure.

As any fan knows, it is Tennis Week. This afternoon was the draw, and play begins on Monday.  Festivities kicked off earlier in the week however, at a party hosted by Tiffany and In Style magazine.  On hand, Maria Sharapova, wearing a new pair of Tiffany earrings per the athlete’s arrangement with the jeweler.

PHOTO: Jemal Countess/Getty

PHOTO: Jemal Countess/Getty

Also on hand for the party? Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, celebrating her 22nd birthday.

But back to Ms. Sharapova’s earrings, the Stria in sterling from Tiffany’s Frank Gehry Collection,

Courtesy Tiffany & Co.

The earrings have a sweet little diamond at the top, and offer an elegant touch sure to be ideal for many occasions.  For those curious about the background of Ms. Sharapova’s partnership with the famed jewelry house, there is a post here (also covering Ms. Williams tennis ‘Trench Coat’) and here (‘the Pirate over the Preppy’).

EDITOR’S NOTE: Obviously this is the point in our post where we would normally have a small mention about the absolute horror of Tiffany partnering with a common celebrity magazine to promote their products.  You know, the “…GAM (Great Aunt Molly) rolling over in her grave if she knew…” part of things. We’ll simply say that the exigent circumstances surrounding today’s schedule are sparing everyone this dreaded tirade.

Speaking of Gossip Girl, we simply must include this next photo of actor Ed Westwick on his way to a shoot with co-star Jessica Szohr today, in honor of the one and only Nautical by Nature, she who occasionally enjoys a look at ‘Chuck Bass‘.

Back to Ms. Sharapova, tonight she will also be busy on behalf of a sponsor, footwear and accessories firm Cole-Haan, still a Princess favorite. (As opposed to Tiffany, now occupying space as ‘the jeweler once known as TP’s number one until they made the Princess pout‘ episode.)

The statuesque beauty and tennis ace will be celebrating the launch of her eponymous collection of shoes and handbags. Below, a sampling, starting with the Air Milano Short Boot

And the Maria Frame Convertible Clutch

Cole-Haan Maria Clutch

Cole-Haan Maria Clutch

For more on the tennis star’s partnership with Cole-Haan, StyleList has an excellent Q&A with Ms. Sharapova.

That wraps up our entirely frivolous post on the topic, tomorrow we hope to share some photos and insight about the tennis togs themselves, something near and dear to to TP’s heart. And by all means, scoot over and say hello to Rich at Down the Line Tennis where you will find information and perspective vastly superior to ours.

Thank you for your kind tolerance of our frenetic schedule, and may Friday be fabulous!
