Pretty in Pink… and Green

Hello-Hello, and Happy Monday!

Does it seem like the weekend flew by ever-so-quickly, or is that simply a reflection of our addled brain? We hope everyone enjoyed family, fun, and perhaps even a little down time to reflect and regroup, we are in the middle of what can be a more-than-wacky time of year!

Today is mostly pix, not prose, as the insanity of orders piling in is consuming most of the day. Our focus today is on gifts with a pink and green theme; we start with a find from the Pink & Green Scene:

The Fleece Throw looks like it would rank very high on the Snuggleometer.

From the folks at Not Soap, Radio we show the I’m Really at the Country Club collection.

Not only does it look like a perfect color combination, it is also an Adventure in Argyle, albeit in an understated pattern.

For those seeking something with a musical influence, the Mini Pink Piano at Neiman Marcus is really very cute.

Also at Needless Markup this establishment, and also possessing a high cute factor, the Paw-Print Cuddles & Burpies.

In honor of Jen at When Pigs Fly, we share this beauty in papier-mâché:

We found the little porker at Middleburg, an etsy shop, just one of many treasures available there.  Also at etsy, the Pink & Green Vines sleep mask from SourdoughSF‘s store, perfect for helping to smooth over any holiday wrinkles.

If still looking for tree decor, our friends at Tar-szay offer the Skiing Hippo (L), and on the right, Kurt Adler’s pastel Pink & Green Heart.

.

Our fondness for the All Smiles ornament in pink will surprise no one,nor will our appreciation of the Pink 1959 Cadillac.

The Baby Girl’s Dress is sweet, and comes nicely packaged. On the right, the Painting Diva offers her handpainted pink and green ornaments in her etsy shop.

As one might expect, this year’s Lilly Pulitzer Glass ornaments are very popular; on the left we show Checking In, and on the right, Free Falling.

Both items shown above are at the Pink Pelican.  New this year are the Lilly Pulitzer Photo Ornaments, available at the Princess and many other retailers.

PreppyPrincess.com

For something a little more upscale, Smythson never fails to offer outstanding choices. Their Small Jewelry Roll is perfection, and one can’t go too far astray with one of their Key Fobs.

Other leather goods in fun colors can be found at Baekgaard. The Slim Case is available in a number of colorways, and very attractive from a pocketbook perspective.

Saks has bright leather Passport Covers:

Keep your little one warm and toasty in this sweet Faux Fur Jacket. The Pink Rosette coat is done in fleece, equally cute, but not quite as heavy.

We leave you with a few ideas for the four-legged family members, beginning with the Fairisle Wool sweater, available at Pretentious Pooch.

And then this, the Bone on Board sweater at Paw Palace:

After this, what could we possibly add?  Nothing of value, other than a ‘thank you’ for popping in to visit, and we shall see you next time.

Monday Musings: Liz at QVC, In the Pink

Hello-Hello, and Happy Day to all, especially those enjoying a day off, a little respite from their normal schedule!

We must begin by sending great good wishes, big smiles, hugs, prayers and lots of love to two of our favorite bloggers who started on a new path this weekend….

Congratulations to the one and only Muffy Martini and Daisy JD (Just Daisy), they married the loves of their lives Saturday.

And now they are off honeymooning, whoo-hoo! (Note: photos are not from either wedding.)

Moving on, big news for anyone who enjoys Liz Claiborne:

LCMUB539_372x456

The line is being moved exclusively to Penney’s. Both the men’s and women’s labels are making the move; if things are going well after five years, Penney’s can even buy the name.

John Aquino/WWD

John Aquino/WWD

Liz Claiborne New York, moves to QVC and the company’s outlet stores.  The WWD story on this notes something TP has wondered about for some time: the perils of watering down a designer’s caché by creating multiple labels sold in similar stores.  As the firm’s CEO, William L. McComb, put it:

“It was time to break the conflict inherent in the strategy that had a lower-priced offering of the Liz Claiborne brand at one department store in the mall [Penney’s] and a higher-priced version of it in a department store across the mall [Macy’s],”

This brings comparisons to American Living, the Polo Ralph Lauren brand sold at Penney’s. Below, a fashion look and a table lamp, both from that collection.

0900631b81777398M0900631b816edd81M

It’s unlikely there is much brand dilution with this line; most retailing insiders believe the line really bears little resemblance to standard PLR merchandise.

Other retailers have done well with designer collections specifically for their customers, such as the Simply Vera by Vera Wang and Dana Buchman lines  at Kohl’s, and Tommy Hilfiger is now sold only at Macy’s or Hilfiger stores.

From a big picture perspective this also allows the Claiborne company to focus more attention on several brands many readers are familiar with: Kate Spade, Lucky Brand Jeans, and Juicy Couture.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We have a few more Pretty in Pink things to share, starting with an extra cute pair of Keds.

kicker_7_bcrfThe Keds Champion Pink Ribbon sneaker benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation – the company is donating 100% of proceeds to the BCRF.

Speaking of shoes, how about these Ragg Kids Puppy for infants and toddlers?

7954-203391-dOr these Bibi Kids Laceups, also for infants and toddlers?

1733-216725-d

If TP and the Consort had been blessed with human children we would be bankrupt; every single cent would be spent on shoes for the little ones, they are simply too cute!

Another delightful find, Kate Spade’s Bon Vivant Lilia, actually something of a bargain right now.

Because of the chilly temps outside, we have to share the Pink Funnelneck coat from Old Navy.

We leave with a look at the next generation Armani phone.

It does look sleek and elegant – dare we say understated?

However, we’re more than content with our iPhone tucked into its shocking pink case and we also have a greater understanding of just how easily one might become addicted to dependent upon the technology.

Until tomorrow,  we send smiles to each and every cherished readers!

In The Pink: Lacoste & Polo Ralph Lauren

Hello-Hello!  Is everyone else beginning to experience those sure and certain signs of a changing season? We are definitely facing the harsh realities here at Princess InterGalactic HQ, hopefully they aren’t too dreary wherever you may be today.

Most readers are aware the month of October is now accompanied by an explosion of breast cancer awareness products, the majority are fundraisers for either the Komen Foundation or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, although there are numerous other charitable endeavors.

We thought it might be fun to share a few pieces from Lacoste’s In The Pink collection; the items are available beginning October 1.

Courtesy Lacoste

Courtesy Lacoste

The tote looks great, we like the smaller logo and the inclusion of the second little bag. We found the flip-flops to be cute as well.

The oversized Croc polo… not so much.

The sunglasses look like they could be fun, a touch of whimsy.

Lacoste’s In The Pink group also includes a belt…

… and a wristwatch.

We are confident we could find a useful purpose for each and every item seen here, despite the logoage. (Heh-heh.)

Now we enjoy a quick glance at some of the Pink Pony Collection currently available at Polo Ralph Lauren, we start with the Logo Cap.

Funds raised through the Pink Pony Foundation go towards cancer care and prevention. Polo Ralph Lauren offers several Pink Pony Totes, like the Organic Mini Tote shown below.

We like the candle, that is intriguing as a way of handling several gift obligations in the not-too-distant future.

We also appreciate the fact there are Mens’ products offered, moving beyond the silly notion only women will make purchases from this kind of collection. Below, the Men’s Classic-Fit Pink Pony Polo

This shirt also comes in white, and is available in the Custom-Fit style as well. There is more Pink Pony Merchandise at Polo Ralph Lauren, it makes for enjoyable surfing/shopping with an eye toward helping a good cause.

What is the Princess offering for Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Scout Dean-O Tote

Scout Dean-O Tote

Yeppers, this is the versatile, indestructible Original Dean-O tote from the good folks at Scout.  We have long liked this bag,  both of use several of them. Being able to contribute 30% of proceeds from sales of these to such a good cause sealed the deal for us: one is now atop our little mountain personal collection of totes.

It seem wise to simply say almost the entire post is Pretty in Pink, don’t you think?

Before we fly, two quick tidbits, the first a follow-up to our post offering a Sneak Peek at 3 New Lilly Pulitzer Lines. The delightful author of the story referenced in our post, Julie Naughton at WWD, was kind enough to post comments answering some questions pondered by readers.  Spotty Prep wondered about the eye shadow in the upcoming MAC in Lillyland collection.  Julie offered this insight:

“… while the eyeshadows (and the rest of the collection) appear quite bright in the packaging, they do go on fairly sheer.”

Our thanks to Julie for providing us with some inside info!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also today, news that one of TP’s alltime favorite designers is now a United States citizen: Carolina Herrera.

Steve Eichner/WWD

Steve Eichner/WWD

Ms. Hererra made it official on Friday, Women’s Wear Daily has the story:

I have been here for many years, and I love this country very much. I love New York and everything about America. It was very emotional for me.”

We’ll end on this nifty note!

Sneak Peek at Target’s Next Jewelry Line & the Tale of a Tee Makes a Princess Weep

Hello-Hello!

Greetings from the soaked and sodden Prepatorium here in the Great Midwest!

We start with news we simply have to share because it is so fun: we are the lucky winner of a beautiful scarf given away by Coterie Blog! Coterie is a must-read for us, written with a delightful mix of elegance, wit and just the right amount of whimsy for a perfect blend, and we highly recommend it!

Here is a peek at the luscious scarf we won in Miss Coterie’s giveaway…

Thank You Miss Coterie!

Thank You Miss Coterie!

As much as we love reading the Coterie blog, we are equally fond, if not more so, of her Coterie Books blog. We’re fanatical readers here at Princess HQ, it’s almost a sickness, really. It has been said about TP: “She’s never met a book she didn’t like.” At any rate, erudite verbiage and brevity are also hallmarks of the Coterie Book blog posts, and the recommendations are stellar. One of this week’s suggestions?

Toddle on over for a little visit, you’ll enjoy yourself at either spot, promise!

In keeping with our tedious coverage continuing looks at fashions sported by the cast of Gossip Girl on-air and off, we share a few photos from this weekend’s Teen Choice Awards, starting with Leighton Meester.

Dolls, we are struggling with the appeal Mr. Westwick holds for so many; is the expression seen upon his face in the photo above supposed to make him endearing? Cute? Cuddly? Let’s give him another opportunity to show those qualities, shall we?

PHOTO: Getty Images

PHOTO: Getty Images

The best we can do is say this is brnging us back to the “weaselly” or “appearance of a well-fed ferret” comments of a previous post.  Are we just hopelessly out of touch? Do tell, as the sense of being an ignoramus is crushing. (Ahem.)

Oh, and the surfboards are evidently the prize given to winners. Guess that doesn’t quite fit in the carry-on.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

We close with a SOTT (Sign Of The Times) about Brioni, the upscale and ever-so-stylish Italian fashion house. (Think about the exquisite black tie apparel sported by “Bond, James Bond,” among other things.) Word comes today via the Times that the firm is acceding to These Challenging Economic Times. They will be marketing a tee-shirt.

A tee-shirt.

The story better explains why this is a shocker:

“…it will be the first offering of its kind for Brioni, whose image — and bottom line — have been built on formal wear and dressing rich Town & Country-style men since its founding in 1945.”

And while the Consort’s evening wear is not from this company, we have long loved the firm, in large part because of its rigid adherence to custom and quality, the refusal on their part to move manufacturing to less expensive locations, like Mexico.  More from the Times story:

“… it’s a telling sign of how both the financial crisis and changing consumer habits are forcing even the most conservative, family-owned luxury goods makers to adapt to a new world.”

Here is a look at the item under discussion:

PHOTO: Justin Maxon/The New York Times

PHOTO: Justin Maxon/The New York Times

It is difficult to discern from the photo, but the images on the shirt are vintage Brioni labels from 1950’s and 60’s vintage apparel.  We love the way the company’s CEO discusses the shirt:

“It should feel different from Hanes,” sniffed Mr. Perrone, a soft-spoken, aristocratic heir who became Brioni’s first sole chief executive last month…”

For more on “A Suitmaker to Princes Adapts to the Financial Crisis” from writer Nelson D. Schwartz, it is an outstanding read.  Sniff.

Tennis Fashions, Serious Sales of a Prepalicious Sort

Hello everyone, it is another delightful summer day here at the Prepatorium, we hope it is the same wherever you may be today!

We begin with the tennis fashions debuting across the pond at Wimbledon. (WARNING: Readers may want to be sure small children are safely away with Nanny in case the following photo is so shocking it provokes an unwitting shriek or scream to escape one’s mouth.)

TP begs your forgiveness for distributing such wretched images, but we are sworn to report on such things, despite the trauma inflicted on our psyche.

PHOTO: Stefan Wermuth/Reuters

PHOTO: Stefan Wermuth/Reuters

For openers: Roger Federer, gold lame and Nike are five words that ought never be used together at the same time. It’s just plain wrong. Gold lame?  This is a substance best kept far away from the sporting world, with the possible exceptions of figure skating and gymnastics.

This story from the Times of London does a stellar job describing the look, invoking an Anti-Prep in the process:

“Even if the all-white uniform evaded the attention of any Taleban snipers, their gaze would surely be caught by the sun glinting off the gold ends of Federer’s luggage. That bag looked like something Paris Hilton would take to a spa. Perhaps there was a chihuahua inside.”

The jacket brought flashbacks of the Nehru collar favored in the 60’s, while the body had a distinctly military look. It gets worse, as underneath the jacket was a vest that almost looked like it belonged under a dinner jacket.

PHOTO: Stefan Wermuth/Reuters

PHOTO: Stefan Wermuth/Reuters

Fortunately the fashion disaster was quickly forgotten as play got underway and Mr. Federer readily dispensed with his first opponent.  How do we all feel about the return of last year’s Tennis Cardigan? A good alternative to this week’s look?

PHOTO: K Lamarque/Reuters

PHOTO: K Lamarque/Reuters

Also sporting an interesting jacket over their working clothes, Maria Sharapova.

PHOTO: Toby Melville/Reuters

PHOTO: Toby Melville/Reuters

Nike is also the company behind Ms. Sharapova’s dress, likened to a majorette’s costume by some. We find it more-than-attractive, especially on someone as lovely as she.  Everyone remembers 2008’s Tuxedo Dress to-do, yes? Come now, one can’t have forgotten last year’s Wimbledon Fashion Fracas already! (If visiting the link, do scroll down for the story.)

And wrapping up our Nike-clad trio of players today, Serena Williams was in a jacket reminiscent of a classic British macintosh.

We think she looks smashing.

As always with this topic, we suggest readers pop over for a visit with Rich at Down the Line Tennis for the inside story.

A quick follow-up to yesterday’s post on the Brooks Brothers Black Fleece expansion.

PHOTO: Courtesy Brooks Brothers

PHOTO: Courtesy Brooks Brothers

Above, styles by Thom Browne, the Black Fleece designer. Not only is Brooks adding two standalone Black Fleece stores, they intend to add 40 stores in Mexico.  Today’s WWD story on the expansion provides more insight on both developments.

When speaking specifically about the Black Fleece customer, Brooks CEO Claudio Del Vecchio has an interesting perspective:

“…Black Fleece customers have responded to having their own separate location, noting, “I’m not sure those customers are comfortable coming to Madison Avenue.”

We can’t imagine why. The company is also planning its first Country Club store that isn’t located at a resort; this new emporium will be in Seattle.

Oddly, the following photos are just into the Prepatorium, a look from today’s Moncler Gamme Bleu Men’s Spring 2010 Collection.

Guess the designer. Not sure?

We move now to some fabulous Sales & Savings opportunities, beginning with the retailer mentioned above, Brooks Brothers, offering 50% off in stores with deeper discounts available online.

Next, one of our favorites, Vineyard Vines.

The markdowns include the Anchor Turtle Bay Tee, now $24.99.

There is a significant amount of merchandise still available as of this writing.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

J. Crew is also doing another of their Final Sale promotions.

J. Crew

Including the Boy’s Pacific Madras Blazer, originally $135, now $49.99.

We have just been advised of a late-breaking appointment, so we shall close with the Keep Company Homer shoe, in the Watermelon color combination.

May your afternoon be sunny and bright!

Carolyne Roehm for Best & Co., Sketches from the new Gwyneth Paltrow Line

Hello-Hello and welcome to another wild week at the Prepatorium!

We start off with a heartfelt ‘Thank You” to the inimitable Queen Bee Swain, and her generosity in bestowing upon us the Friendship Award!

Thank you Queen Bee Swain

Thank you Queen Bee Swain!

Per the rules: these blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbon of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.

Here we go with a quick eight names!

Many readers know that here at the Prepatorium we simply adore the children’s clothing carried by Best & Co.; this spring the retailer has added something special, a line designed by none other than the über-talented Carolyne Roehm.

There’s no need to be concerned about anything over-the-top, no pieces covered in any frou-frou details or embellishment.  We have long been fond of Ms. Roehm’s design aesthetic; she is possessed of an exquisite eye, and also likes TP’s favorite color combination, blue & white.

In fact, the designer’s newest book is entitled A Passion for Blue and White.  A look behind the scenes at inspiration boards for the Best & Company collection reveals Ms. Roehm’s attention to detail:

We haven’t yet made time to post anything at all about the news that oh-so-preppy Gwyneth Paltrow is releasing her own clothing line. The actress announced the line will be done in collaboration with Zoe Tees, a French company. The official name is said to be ZOEtee’s Loves Gwyneth, and proceeds will benefit Kids Company in London.

Banana Republic Closing Monogram? Hilfiger & Ferragamo Black Friday Deals

Hello-Hello!

Well, if we don’t seem to be encountering another preppy money moment here. We just read that Banana Republic’s new upscale line, Monogram, is closing its doors on Bleecker Street. According to the folks at Racked, American Apparel is moving into the space.  Below, the Monogram store.

<br>

The line received a fair amount of splash when introduced; regulars may recall The Princess wrote about it upon its launch back in April.  The line was described as being more sophisticated, more tailored, and more expensive; 30-40% more expensive in some cases.

sum1_m_monogram_bb

This may not be as cataclysmic as it appears however, as we do remember reading back in April the standalone store was only scheduled to be open for 9 months, which would sync up with the timetable mentioned in the Racked story.

Courtesy Banana Republic

Courtesy Banana Republic

We would be more than surprised if the line performed at anywhere near hoped-for levels. Many loyal Banana Republic customers felt the collection was overpriced, with the merchandise providing little or no justification for the higher cost. Nor was there enough distinction between the Monogram pieces and original Banana Republic fare to attract a new following.

Below, a BR Monogram knot halter gown that is definitely not for the faint of heart, at least not in the Chroma Pink colorway.

As our Tuesday post focused in large part on the J. Crew struggles, and now today we are talking about Banana Republic, it seems ideal that Austin’s American Statesman recently did an interesting story advising readers how they can achieve ‘a James Bond look’ at J. Crew and/or Banana Republic prices.  In the story writer Marques G. Harper suggests:

“If Savile Row isn’t in your budget, other spots worth a look for Bond-style wares are Banana Republic and J. Crew.”

“….the BR Monogram specialty line has classic items such as cardigans, patterned pants, dress shirts, trench coats and a tuxedo (it goes for $650 compared with a Tom Ford tux, which sells for $4,650). In other words, get your Bond look for less.”

A photo accompanies the story, featuring a Tom Ford tuxedo and other items at Needless Markup Neiman Marcus.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

In our continuing effort to provide information that is moderately entertaining, yet also fiscally friendly, here are a few more tidbits on Black Friday sales and discounts, as originally mentioned in the WSJ blog:

  • Salvatore Ferragamo boutiques will begin holiday sales Dec. 4, marking down men’s and women’s clothing and accessories by 35% to 50%.
  • Tommy Hilfiger company stores will offer 40% off the entire store on Black Friday, plus they’ll take an additional 25% off purchases of $200 or more between the hours of midnight and 10 a.m.

One cautionary note: as TP was initially reading this she neglected to notice it only applies to Tommy Hilfiger factory stores, or outlet stores, whichever term you prefer.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

The new Gap advertising campaign features a personality from one of TP’s favorite shows, Mad Men.  Actor Jon Hamm plays the show’s always-natty lead character Don Draper; he is joined in the commercial by his real-life significant other, actress Jennifer Westfeldt.

Courtesy The Gap
Below, a photo of Mr. Hamm and actress January Jones, who plays Don’s wife, Betty Draper.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

One more quick shopping tip, in this case directed at anyone who uses Clinique cosmetics: there is a Trina Turk-designed ‘gift with purchase‘ underway now at Nordstrom. The goodies shown below accompany any $25 Clinique purchase at Nordstrom, actually a fairly good arrangement IOHO, as the lines at the beauty counters can really be tedious when it is GWP time.  TP loves collecting these throughout the year (only as appropriate, when we genuinely require something from the line doing the giveaway, honestly!) and then donating them to a local shelter at the holidays.

Whether visiting the store in person, or in a virtual sense, don’t forget this is going on:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

For today’s Pretty in Pink, this Leather Mini Wallet isn’t one you are likely to be lose inside the giant pile otherwise known as your purse! It is from one of TP’s favorites, Elaine Turner.

Don’t forget to enter the Great Giveaway, with $100+ in outstanding preppy gifts from Boatman Geller, the Preppy Princess, with the Summer at Tiffany book as a bonus gift! Just leave a comment telling us one friend you are grateful for and you are entered!

We hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weeknd!
