Lilly Pulitzer Bridal Gowns & Jon Hamm Does Daycare

Hello-Hello, and happy Wednesday!

We are really in the midst of a major rush of new products, much of it involving Lilly love! Today we have a sneak peek at the Lilly Pulitzer Bridal collection and in just a few days we will be showing the Fall 2010 goodies from our Lilly Stationery and Gifts line! But here we go with some of the soon-to-be-released dresses.

Many readers may be familiar with Lilly’s Wedding Wear focus, and the existing dresses that are suitable for wear in that capacity.

The new dresses are by Designer Bride, a collection of gowns from four noted designers; in addition to Lilly the others are David Meister, Angel Sanchez and Carmen Marc Valvo. According to Women’s Wear Daily (subscription req’d.) there are twelve Lilly gowns in total.

“The collection featured signature Lilly prints done in “white on white” and the “Lilly lace” applied on a gown. Standouts were the short versions, such as a lace cocktail dress with cap sleeves and a grosgrain ribbon belt.”

The Designer Bride line debuted to buyers last week. More from the WWD story:

“The first collection down the runway was Lilly Pulitzer, which showed 12 dresses inspired by destination weddings in resort towns such as Palm Beach, Fla.; Palm Springs, Calif., and Nantucket, Mass.”

Bridal is a wise move, J. Crew is doing very well with its wedding collection and new standalone bridal store.

The gowns will not be sold at Lilly Pulitzer stores or online, they will be available at 61 bridal boutiques late this year or in early 2011. Our next look requires a full shot to better show its lace overlay atop the layer of soft pink.

This is probably our favorite dress in the shorter profile, you know how we are when it comes to bows!

On the left, beading and/or other embellishment enhances the clean, classic lines. The style shown on the right, while not our favorite look, includes a tunic that alone would be stunning. And scandalously short in some circles.

The sharp wedding planners over at A Splash of Elegance posted these and we couldn’t resist sharing them, and they are also now available for online drooling viewing! Below, one final dress from the new collection.

To give you an idea of some of the pieces currently on the Wedding Wear portion of the Lilly site, here are the Betsey dress (L) and the Layton dress (R).

Today’s other item of note deals with our tedious obsession fondness for Mad Men.

Mizzou Magazine

Mizzou Magazine’s summer issue features a story on the show’s star, actor Jon Hamm.

Mizzou Magazine

We must thank MLD, her kindness in sharing the story is more than appreciated. Although we went to school in Columbia (Missouri), we did not attend the University of Missouri, matriculating instead at the women’s college located in that community, so we would not have been aware of the story.

One of the more interesting tidbits in the story? Learning that Mr. Hamm taught Daycare at an establishment in Columbia called Kids Depot, getting the job by suggesting the facility have more men on staff. The story also takes note of the actor’s popularity:

“Hamm’s name and image are ubiquitous: Hamm on People magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive list. Hamm hosting Saturday Night Live. Hamm modeling menswear of the 1960s, in photos by Annie Leibovitz. Hamm featured in Vanity Fair, Vogue, Rolling Stone, GQ, In Style, Entertainment Weekly, Elle and most of the popular press.”

Happy reading.

A quick Sales and Savings opportunity for fans of Vineyard Vines: ‘members only/by invitation only’ discount site Gilt is offering pieces from the popular retailer. For example, the Puzzle Whale classic tote shown on the left is on sale for $25, the Mini Murray beach tote is $22. A word of caution: these sales historically sell out of goods fairly quickly.

If interested in this, or future sales at Gilt, and in need of an invitation, simply click here.

We leave you with a look at what Best Week Ever calls “The World’s Most Photoshopped Dog“. The pooch in question is found in Polo Ralph Lauren’s Camp Polo graphics.

Writer Dan Hopper points out it is “…the most poorly Photoshopped dog-in-a-shirt I’ve ever seen.” The site also offers this graphic:

Until next time, there you have it.

Fab Sales & Savings & Posh Pet Digs & A Preppy Cutting Board

Hello-Hello, welcome to a crazy Thursday here at Princess InterGalactic HQ!

With the holiday approaching there are loads of Sales and Savings opportunities; you know how concerned we about helping you conserve your pin money. We begin with the Brooks Brothers semi-annual sale and a Pretty in Pink, the Madras short at $52.80.  On the right is the Country Club Dress in a lightweight cotton knit that is über-comfy and at a lightweight price, just $59 (originally $98).

Talbots is running their Red Hanger promotion.

Talbots

The sale offers items like the Embroidered Cropped Pants at $63 (originally $79.50) or today’s Adventure in Argyle, the Cotton Blend Cardigan at $71 (originally $89).

Are these great bargains? Not exactly.  For consumers who have grown accustomed to deep discounting during These Difficult Times, the lack of lower price points may be off-putting. Today CNBC looked at summer sale promotions in a story titled “Smart Spending: Are semiannual sales worth it?

“More than ever, retailers are running sales every two weeks,” said Dan de Grandpre, editor-in-chief of dealnews.com. “The semiannual sale for a lot of people is just noise.”

Second, the discounts are smaller. Try 30 percent to 50 percent, compared with the 75 percent price cuts that were common until about a year ago. And the racks are less full because retailers ordered less to begin with.”

Tory Burch is also offering discounts.

Tory Burch

The Walker Polo is now $66.50 (from $95) and the Kids’ Tory Tunic in pink is also $66.50.

Here is more fiscally-friendly advice from the CNBC story:

“….consider waiting. Retailers like Brooks Brothers, Timberland and Foot Locker still offer big sales well before the winter holidays, often in late September through early November. De Grandpre said those sales can be better than the chains’ semiannual ones because retailers don’t want to be left with extra inventory after the holidays.”

A Princess favorite, Kate Spade, is also offering discounted merchandise; the Krush Slingback is $228, originally priced at $325.  On the right, an item we adore for cooler seasons, the Zoe knit slipper, reduced to $47 from $95.

We promise to pass along any other significant offers we discover.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A few quick items we simply have to share, here is the first.

Straight Line Designs

The Bird Home comes via Justin Beaumont’s Straight Line Designs in Vancouver.  From the same source, we offer the Pet Camper, just too fun.

Sadly, we were forced to explain to Tilly the dapper digs are not intended for dogs of her… girth. Her reaction?

Sigh. What’s a Mother to do?

We leave you with new to the Princess, our fabulous new Personalized Cutting Boards from Clairebella.

Do Not Read if Offended by Shameless Self-Promotion

Hello-Hello and happy springtime day to all!

Welcome to one of only two special days we have every year at Princess InterPlanetary HQ, it’s our special post celebrating the “Not an April Fool” sale, when everything at The Preppy Princess is 20% off. (Our only other big day like this is Pink and Green Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving.)  If thinking about shopping, do use promo code APRILDEAL to receive your discount, this special offer expires at midnight tonight (April 1st).

Such an auspicious occasion prompts wretched and shameless self-promotion as we focus on a few goodies from our little store. And because we don’t want to simply flirt with impropriety, we want to step madly into that vast commercial abyss with flagrant references to the “M word,” providing actual prices for each item shown. (The horror.) Psssst, these are the prices before your 20% discount, so they are even more fiscally friendly!

We begin with one of our favorite items this spring, the Scout Original Dean-o Tote in solid colors ($30), we want one in every color.  Sadly, one of each is not something the Consort can wrap his brain around.

Scout Original Deano at PreppyPrincess.com

The sale means all of our custom grosgrain ribbon belts (starting at $19 for Tiny Preps and $23 for the grownups) and Key Fobs ($6) are even better deals…

…not to mention we have added several new ribbon styles, including one that Gator fans might like.

If looking for something a tad brighter, our Candi Belts ($48) or Flip Flops ($48) might be in order.

The color combinations are loads of fun and more-than-versatile, below we show the Stewart pattern followed by Gum Drop, the green and purple together make a great style statement IOHO.

We suspect The Queen Mother and a few other Spartan fans might opt for the Spearmint pair in green and white. The colors would be particularly stylish this weekend, I understand her team has some sort of basketball game in Indianapolis on Saturday. (Heh-heh-heh.)

Don’t forget about your four-legged family members, all of our grosgrain goodies are available as Dog and Cat Collars, Harnesses, and Leashes.

The sale also offers an opportunity to snag our new Jonathan Adler Pocket Papers ($4.50) as well as the Jonathan Adler Note Cubes ($12.50) at a great price.

And to get a jump on party planning for graduations, weddings, and other goings-on.  Lilly Pulitzer has just what you need for special occasions, including re-useable Plastic Tumblers ($15) that are dishwasher safe, making them eco-friendly, and Beverage Napkins with Fun Savings ($5), excellent conversation starters.

Our  new Monogramed Polka Dot and Striped Garden Flags ($40) are perfect for gifting…

As are the Personalized Argyle Doormats ($39) and Monogramed House Flags ($59).

Our Kiel James Patrick collection is one of our fastest-growing lines, with Earrings ($28), Headbands ($26) and Braided Rope Bracelets ($35 – $58) all sporting a nautical touch. The exclusive Preppy Princess Pink/Green/White model is flying out the door.

This doesn’t begin to mention our Preppy Paper goods or Lunch Bags, the fab Towels or Pillows, and scads of other treasures.  We’ll have to leave those for you to discover at your own pace, we must scoot so we can organize the elves to handle the deluge of orders… eek!

Sneak Peek at Isaac’s Line, Lilly & Kate Online Only Sales

Hello-Hello and welcome to the mayhem that is the Prepatorium today, in large part because yesterday we were a tad under the weather. We thank The Consort for stepping in and penning the blog, what a dream of a spouse he is!

We are so woefully behind in personal and professional obligations we fear our pointy little head is about to explode!  Therefore our bloggage will be brief.  We begin with a sneak peek at a line from a designer we adore, Isaac Mizrahi, for a television shopping channel we had never visited, QVC.

John Aquino/WWD

It seems the talented designer is using many of the classic design lines he employed at Le Boutique Targèt. Above: the Wool blend duffle toggle coat, $198; cashmere sweater, $88, and taffeta skirt, $60; shoes, $70. We aren’t crazy about this next look; the word ‘matronly’ comes to mind, oui?

We’ll use this next item as today’s Pretty in Pink; the leather Drawstring Bag is expected to be $200.

mizrahi-qvc11

John Aquino/WWD

The Patent Leather clutches are going to be in the $75 range.

Mr. Mizrahi’s collection is also going to include housewares. Below left, the set of Three Vases are going to retail at $75 (the candy dish price isn’t available) and the Bow Plates will be $40 for a set of four.

mizrahi-qvc06mizrahi-qvc09

The talented designer is also going to offer a wide variety of tartan products, including the Cotton Pajama Set, $67, and the Plaid Throw, $49.

mizrahi-qvc04mizrahi-qvc10

A new and nifty option for storage? The Tartan plaid boxes in two sizes at $55 and $70.

For an entirely different look at the popular plaid motif:

Yes indeedy, that is an edible tartan: the cheesecake will be offered at $40, and the plaid platter at $40.  Yumalicious! Below, Mr. Mizrahi and a model in his Gold paillette tank and silk pants.

Target still hasn’t ‘replaced’ Mr. Mizrahi as far as we are concerned, they have yet to procure a stellar talent as an in-house designer, although they claim to be content with the status quo in this respect.

The collection launches on QVC December 4 – we may actually tune in for the unveiling.

A few quick Sales & Savings opportunities we must pass along, the first already underway….

ss_newsletter_02

The Kate Spade Sample sale is generally worth a visit, with things like the Bon Vivant zippered Chrissy only $81.

pKSLCI1-6357119t215.

An upcoming chance to enhance one’s walk-in starts Thursday (the 12th), this one courtesy of the good folks at Lilly.

JubileeSaleThis is the first time Lilly Pulitzer is doing an online-only sale; if interested in being able to get a head start on shopping, Lilly Facebook fans will be able to start browsing and buying at 7am Thursday.  Those who subscribe to the Lilly newsletter may begin at 8am, and the sale opens to ‘regular shoppers’ online at 9am.

It seems the success of the online sale might have a direct impact on what is available at the Lilly Warehouse Sale next week, the 19th – 21st.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Finally, we are struggling in our efforts to adapt to life without our dear friends Don and Betty Draper Mad Men every Sunday evening. Below, Jon Hamm and January Jones on the set.

A season that started with such promise ends with the couple having “the talk” with their children.

We shall have to wait until next season to learn about the family’s future, including how little Bobby and Sally Draper handle Daddy’s absence from the family hearth.  Sigh.

For those fond of Ms. Jones, she is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. On that note we say g’bye until next time!

Hide The Kids & Let’s Start An Ad Agency!

Hello-hello, all.  The Consort striding confidently to the microphone today.  The lovely and talented Princess is spending a portion of the day undergoing a root canal and so I will attempt to entertain you for the next few moments.  She anticipates being back with you all tomorrow.  Meanwhile, she would appreciate your kind thoughts and suggestions for pain relief.

We begin today with a confession.  As many of you may know we gift wrap the items purchased from PreppyPrincess.com.  It’s a great joy for us to hear from customers who open up their shipping box and get that little surprise.  The Princess enjoys wrapping the items and adding a personal note.  There are times when I attempt to lend a hand.  That’s when things go horribly off the rails.

I struggle with gift wrapping.  Oh, sure, I get the concept but the execution is just beyond my reach.  Being somewhat analytical I thought I could find some instruction online.  There’s plenty of help but nothing seems to be working.  I can only imagine the reaction when our customers open their box and find my handiwork:

She:  AHHH!  It’s hideous!

He (in another room):  What?  What?

She:  Where are the kids?  Hide the kids!  Don’t let them come in here and see this!

He:  See what?  Where?

She:  Our package from The Preppy Princess arrived and it looks like a grizzly bear tried to wrap these things!  Oh, the humanity!

He (rushing into room):  Look away!  Don’t stare at the wrapping!

She:  Look at those sloppy creases… those messy folds.  It can only mean one thing…  The Consort has struck again!

(fade to black)

Maybe I’m being a bit melodramatic.  But when your purchases from The Princess arrive don’t panic if they look like they were wrapped in the chimpanzee house at the Bronx Zoo.  It’s only me with another work of art in progress.  I just happen to be inspired by the surrealists.

While we’re on the topic of surreal:  Do we really need a little Christmas right this very minute?  The number of advertisements, be they print, online or broadcast, is already reaching the saturation point and we haven’t even hit double-digit days in November.  I understand the scent of desperation is in the air around many retailers.  But this onslaught began in mid-October and the messages are beginning to blur.  There’s also the issue of the never-ending sales.  Consumers are smarter than some retailers seem to want to acknowledge.  What do you think?  At what point do you shut it all out?  Don’t get me wrong:  I love the holidays.  I just don’t appreciate being assaulted by advertisers.

Which brings us to the Mad Men finale.

mms3_gallery_don_0546

Photo: AMC

So now, while Betty Draper heads to Reno for a quickie divorce, Don and the gang commit I don’t know how many felonies while launching their own advertising agency.  Interesting.  It’s also interesting that Don Draper, our favorite lone wolf, finally realized that he needs other people if he is going to succeed.  Best line of the night?  Roger: “Peggy, get me some coffee.”  Peggy: “No.”  There you go.  The tone is set for Season Four.

Oh, look.  It’s time to climb down off of the soapbox and take my blood pressure medicine.  I appreciate your gentle patience and hope you’ll visit us tomorrow when The Princess is feeling more chipper.  Meanwhile, remember to treat your waitperson right; they’re working hard for you today.  I’d like to leave you with the distinctive song stylings of a young woman who has apparently done some relationship comparison studies.  Good night, everyone.
