Lilly LeSportsac Collection, Serious Sales & Savings

Hello-Hello and greetings from The Great Midwest, where it is snowing. Heavily. You shall hear no complaints from the Prepatorium however, as we have had quite the easy winter, nothing like so many other parts of the country.

We have something to brighten the day for those fond of Lilly Pulitzer: the new collaboration with LeSportsac is now available for pre-ordering at some Lilly shops.  The Ocean Palm is one such shop; below we show the Everygirl Tote in Purrrfect Patch.

LeSportsac at Ocean Palm

The other patterns in this collection are Hip Hop Hooray, with a sunny citrus feel, and She’s a Piston.

The Deluxe version of the Totes runs $98 with smaller sizes priced at $78 and $62.

In the Pink is also offering the new collection on their site; below we see the Mini Backpack ($62) and Lily Wallet (that really is the name).

The collection ships April 15 – 25 according to the Ocean Palm site.

We have a few Sales and Savings opportunities that are too good not to share, beginning with Polo Ralph Lauren.  The retailer is doing a ‘Last Chance’ promotion, offering an additional 20% off sale prices. This would make the Evelina Velvet Jacket a much more reasonable investment (now $375 from $1398) and the Ginny Cotton Sweater tough to turn down at about $24.

The always fabulous A. Tierney is also offering amazing incredible savings, including their Enamel Bangle Bracelets at only $5.

Also only $5, these darling Toddler Baseball Caps, today’s Pretty in Pink (and green).

We know everyone else is promoting special savings, and in most cases, rightly so, but we couldn’t resist sharing these offers, they seem very appealing. (Psst, if perusing the Lilly LeSportsac collection at either In the Pink or Ocean Palm you may want to browse their online clearance sections as well.)

We thought it appropriate to share the reaction to ‘snowpocalypse’ from one of our office mates here at Princess InterGalactic HQ.

With apologies to those following us on Twitter (for whom this may be repetitious), we couldn’t resist the latest from TillyVille.

With that we say g’bye until next time, with hopes you are warm and snuggly where you may be today.

It’s a Mad Mannish Gossiping Girlish Kind of Day at the Prepatorium

Hello-Hello and welcome to Thursday!

We are feeling a bit crushed under the weight of business and some travel commitments so we preface our post today with an apology, as it is much more flash than substance. (But good flashiness we like to think, in a Gossippy and Madly Mannish sort of way.)

Blame it all on the September issues of a few of our favorite magazines, starting with Harper’s Bazaar, using Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester for their cover.

PHOTO: Terry Richardson/Harper's Bazaar

Terry Richardson/Harper's Bazaar

As part of the magazine’s “Fabulous at Every Age” feature the story has photos of Ms. Leighton ‘aging’ into her fifties, a fascinating technique. We thought the young actress looked stunning in this Lanvin dress and belt.

Another Gossip Girl gracing a September issue: Taylor Momsen on the cover of Teen Vogue.

The show continues filming all over the city; below we see Blake Lively with her pooch, a photo that has the Daily Mail saying her maltese/poodle dog is “the perfect accessory” in this story.

And finally in Gossip Girl notes, official word came yesterday that the proposed G2 spinoff is dead. There you have it.

Most readers know we are enormous Mad Men fans, eagerly counting the seconds until Season 3 of the 60’s-based drama premieres on the 16th. Knowing how many readers share our addiction fondness for the show, we thought we might alert you to this stunning image in Vanity Fair:

For those not-so-gaga not entirely familiar with the show, above we see “Don and Betty Draper,” played by Jon Hamm and January Jones.  The photo is one of several jaw-dropping shots accompanying an excellent story: “Don and Betty’s Paradise Lost” in the magazine.

The genius of Annie Leibovitz captures both stars perfectly.

Bruce Handy’s article is superb reading:

“Entering its third season on a fresh wave of Emmy nominations, AMC’s Mad Men is the most stylish—and perhaps best—show on television. Inside its meticulous reconstruction of the precipice that was New York advertising circa 1960, where the men and women of Sterling Cooper smoke, drink, love, and lie…”

Mr. Handy previously did stories with both Mr. Hamm and Ms. Jones; to see these, just click on their names.

Another must-read for M2 fans, Chris Mohney’s story in BlackBook simply titled “Elizabeth Moss: Mad Style“.

PHOTO: Bravo-TV via BlackBookMag.com

Ms. Moss portrays ‘Peggy,’ a young woman making waves at the fictitious advertising agency because she is doing a man’s work (gasp), having moved out of the secretarial pool into actually writing ads!

We can hardly wait to see the first episode next Sunday night (16th) at 10pm!

We have a few quick Sales and Savings notes today, starting with Saks doing their Consolidation Clearance, a sure sign that we are approaching the end of summer in the retailing world. (Note that TP refuses to acknowledge we are inching ever-closer to the end of summer in the real world. Clearly denial has moved from Egypt to the Midwest.)  A cautionary note on the Saks sale; they say prices go back up August 17.

J. Crew is also promoting fiscally-friendly price points, with new items added to their Final Sale.

And Polo Ralph Lauren is doing their End of Summer sale.  This includes items for the four-legged and furry members of your family.

pPOLO2-5684222_lifestyle_t208The Striped Crest Polo is one of today’s Pretty in Pink items, despite it triggering our Logophobia. (Honestly. How disturbed can one get when it discussing a garment intended for your favorite pooch?) It is now only $14, discounted from the original selling price of $40.

Bargains abound dollfaces, so if at all possible we shall attempt to shop early, shop often and do what we can to help move the country beyond These Challenging Times.

We close with our second Pretty in Pink item, this one directly from the Princess shoppe. For your consideration we offer the Good Living Gift Labels:

IGCGoodLookinglabelcaseThe labels are about the size of a business care and come in their own little acrylic plastic case, so they can be kept orderly, something near and dear to our OCD heart. (We do hate it when we have labels loose all over our little gift closet, it just makes us a little goofy.) At just $6 for a box of 18 labels, we love this as an outstanding way to label gifts and goodies, perfectly preppy and ideal for gift-giving. There are several other patterns and colors available if these just a little too preptastic.

With that perky note we must scamper back to the Corner Condo here at InterGalcatic Princess HQ. Thank you for stopping in, we’ll be back tomorrow!

Chuck Bass & Don Draper – Need we Say More?

Hello-Hello, and happy day everyone!

We start with a nudge on a must-read story in the Times for fans of the styles seen in Mad Men and/or Gossip GirlFriday’s story looks at the costume designs for popular television shows, including interviews with Gossip Girl’s costume designer Eric Daman and Katherine Jane Bryant of Mad Men.

PHOTO: Giovanni Rufino/CW

PHOTO: Giovanni Rufino/CW

Mr. Daman’s thought on sartorial selections for Ed Westwick’s character, Chuck Bass?

““He’ll walk around the Hamptons in a beautiful mint-green suit and a bow tie if he feels like it.””

Is there a better representation of Betty & Don Draper doing formal apparel?

We highly recommend the story and accompanying interactive photo piece. Below, some of the Mad Men cast backstage at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

PHOTO: Gavin Bond via INStyle.com

PHOTO: Gavin Bond via INStyle.com

Mad Men aficionados may be intrigued by this story sharing the compromise reached in the ongoing hoo-haa over adding two minutes of commercial time to the hit show when it returns this August. (The 16th of August to be precise, but really, who’s counting?) A wise decision it seems, the two minutes are added but the content is not curtailed; the show will run into the 11pm hour a tad.

And in a final Mad Men note, the show’s style is invoked in this brief review of the new Liz Claiborne Men’s Line.

“The debut collection combines the slim cuts of the Mad Men era with classic preppy pieces–narrow polos and cardigans, bermuda shorts in madras, and two-button jackets.”

4864 4863

This is the first menswear line created under Isaac Mizrahi; it is created by a designer of whom we are fond, the gifted John Bartlett.

We also have a few SOTTs (Signs of the Times) to share:

  • Lots of speculation that Eddie Bauer may be filing for bankruptcy as early as this week; for more info, head for the story in USA Today. This one frustrates us no end, as this was once a great American company; now reduced to a B-school case study in what happens when a brand loses its way.
  • Neiman Marcus will cut the hours it is open in some locations to trim expenses; the story in yesterday’s WWD explains that the changes in hours will vary by location. For example, the underperforming Galleria store in Houston will now open at 1pm on Sundays (instead of noon), while another location will close at 8pm Monday-Friday, instead of the more standard 9pm. Hours at premiere sites like Northpark in Dallas and the Beverly Hills store will remain the same. And as we’re speaking of Neimans, don’t forget their sale continues. The new promo code for complimentary shipping with any purchase amount is JUNNM.

In other Sales & Savings news, Lord & Taylor’s Friends and Family sale offers an “Extra 25% Off Almost Everything,” with “10% off Cosmetics and Fragrances.” Use the promo code FRIENDS at checkout.

Online Shoes is doing their Summer Sale:

And J. Crew has decided to throw in Complimentary Shipping with their Extra 20% off promotion.

Yes, they call it Free Shipping, but TP refuses to use that term; it isn’t really ‘free’ by our definition.  It is complimentary, or included, or no charge, but not free. (Ooooh, do we have a reappearance of Crankenstein Princess?!) The promo code remains the same, EXTRA20.

And to continue our tedious whine-athon, we’re curious to know if anyone else finds it almost laughable/borderline offensive when a retailer puts an item “on sale” by taking approximately 13% off the original selling price? The issue came to mind with the Crew Perfect-Fit Short-Sleeve tee:

J Crew

J Crew

We don’t mean to unfairly pillory J. Crew, and we adore the tee, there are more than we care to think about a few here at the Palace.  Nor is J. Crew the only company pursuing what seems an insane practice, but 13% barely covers the sales tax in some locales these days. Can someone help us understand?

Okay enough of our insanity, it’s time to perk up with a few Pretty in Pink items, our first from Polo Ralph Lauren, also holding a sizable Sale and Clearance event.

The Fairway Print stretch polo is now $69. While not for us, the shorts hold potential. (This could be attributed to our Logophobia, but it seems a high proportion of the womens items we surfed had the logos-on-steroids issue.)

The second is a discovery by our good friends over at the Pink and Green Scene:

The Company Store

The Company Store

The letters are just too cute, available at The Company Store.

Happy hunting, if that is your task today! Until next time, g’bye.

J Crew & Ralph Lauren Polo Spring Sales

j Crew jacket j Crew Striped 120\'s Kensington Shirt

It is that delightful time of year when last minute preps are made for the May/June weddings, when vacations are planned, and at long last, both the Ladies’ and Mens’ courses are open at the Club. And while it is vulgar to discuss m—-, during these challenging economic times we recognize the importance of economizing, so we are pleased that it is also that wonderful time of year when retailers with a tad too much merchandise on hand take markdowns. All the better to assist you in getting the very thing you knew you needed but just didn’t want to acquire at its full price. After all, they are here to help, oui? (And did you notice The Princess did that whole m—- conversation without using the M word?!)

At the head of the class in wardrobe assistance is J Crew, where there a substantial amount of merchandise remains in stock that has been marked down. For openers, shown above we feature the striped Kelly Jacket, now $79.99 as opposed to $140. Then we hit the real Heartbreaker for those of us currently facing unforeseen minor fiscal responsibilities: the J Crew Striped 120s Kensington shirt which is beyond ubersoft and oh-so-cool. Sniff… sniff.

J Crew Liv Ballet Flat Pink J Crew Liv Ballet Flat Green

J Crew Millie Ballet Flat

While also in this esteemed emporium, get a glance at all of the sale shoes to be had, with loads of flip-flops and espadrilles, and lots of ballerina flats in varying design and style. There is still a fairly good selection of size and color (at least as of this writing) for the Liv Patent Ballet Flats, seen above in both pink and green patent, and which The Princess desperately desires. Really. Truly. Desires. Sigh. And now they are only $99.99 as opposed to $150, and they also come in black and yellow – how absolutely perfect is that? Forcing myself to move on, the Millie Ballet flat is also on sale; methinks you will either love it at first sight or loathe it forever. (TP is in the second group – something is just not right with that shoe, it just isn’t!) Now, for those who buy stocking stuffers early (no pun intended) here’s just what you need: some timeless J Crew argyle socks! If these simply aren’t bright enough (?) then move on to the polka dots which come in two colorways. These are marked down from $12.50 to $6.99, so it would seem that several pair might be in order.

Ralph Lauren Polo

We love Ralph Lauren for doing something many retailers don’t: putting some of their basics on sale, like their oh-so-preppy Long-Sleeved Skinny Polo, shown above, now $59.99 ‘stead of $85, not a huge markdown but nothing to sneeze at IMHO and there are loads of those divine Polo colors. Spring can also mean more social events before people get away for the summer, so adding a few new dresses appropriate for tea, bridesmaids luncheon, etc., is always a good idea. Among the Princess’s favorites? The Inna Stretch Cotton Dress, (and yes, we know it’s not at all springy because it’s black, but it’s fabulous and we simply must have it) is wonderful, as is the Jersey Tank Dress; it has that sexy cross-back design. Another basic, the featherweight silk-cotton turtleneck also represents some savings, now $69, originally $98.

Ralph Lauren Polo Baby Cable CardiganRalph Lauren Polo Baby Cable Cardigan Pink

BTW, they have merchandise on sale across all the departments, including Petites, Infants, the Golf Shop, and Home, so it definitely merits a glance. At the very bottom we show the Men’s Classic Long-Sleeved T-Shirt, now only $19.99, certainly something TP is considering for herself as a combo lounging-around- sleepshirt-type-of-top because the cotton is such a high grade these stay soft forever and ever. It’s partner, the Men’s Polo Pocket T-Shirt is also 1/3 off original retail at $19.99, making TP want to grab an armful! That’s just the tip of today’s bargain iceberg, but we had to share at least a few of the deals! After all, we’re here to help! <Grin.>
