A Tale of Two Stories, Bridal Party Designer Revealed, Tonight’s Royal Gala

Today’s post is a challenge.

We can’t simply revel in fun and frivolity while ignoring the other news of the day.

Having personal experience with tornadoes when covering news, we can only say that written descriptions are inadequate.

Above, images from Tuscaloosa last night.

The atmosphere after a tornadic event is beyond explanation, well beyond weird or eerie or any other term I can think of.  The best I can say is it is quiet.  There is an odd silence and the air itself feels funny. Below, north of Centreville, Alabama last night.

When the event comes at night one is even more unsteady, there is no sound, no light, no nothing. Only the sound of generators, once they kick in, for those that have them.

Daylight brings painful realities.

We move on to events across the pond, where it is has been a day filled with last-minute rehearsals, comings and goings, smiles and glad-handing, and this evening’s gala for the out-of-town royals.

The day started with one more walk-through at Westminster Abbey; Prince Harry and Kate Middleton were on hand but Prince William did not participate.

Young attendants took part in the rehearsal as well, below we see 8-year-old Tom Pettifer, one of the page boys, and Lady Louise Windsor, aged 7, she is the daughter of The Earl and Countess of Wessex (aka Prince Edward and his wife Sophie).

We do know the young ladies will be wearing dresses by Nicki Macfarlane, below we see designs from the designer’s 2010/2011 collections.  (Be advised if thinking about checking this site, it seems to be melting down from the increased traffic.)

Ms. Macfarlane has done bespoke dresses for some time, only recently did she start offering RTW (ready to wear) designs. Below, another look at Young Master Pettifer and Miss Windsor.

We don’t know if the third young bridesmaid, Eliza Lopes, was at this morning’s run-through or not. We show her below in images from an earlier post on the wedding party.

In addition to hearing about the wedding party’s attire, we are learning what some of the more notable guests will be wearing.  Prince Harry’s guest, Chelsy Davy, will be in two dresses by Alberta Ferretti, for the wedding she will wear aqua with a matching jacket, and for tomorrow night’s party at the palace, a midnight blue one-shouldered design.

The Duchess of Cornwall will wear a creation by Anna Valentine, the designer of the dress for her marriage to Prince Charles.

Throughout the day the bride, her family and others involved in tomorrow’s events have been smiling, looking quite relaxed.

Perhaps one of the most important items brought into the hotel today:

A sewing machine. Brilliant.

Oh, the groom? He did a walkabout this evening, greeting those gathered on the processional route.

While the Middletons are settled in at The Goring, others are at the Mandarin Oriental for tonight’s big dinner.  The Queen was in periwinkle blue, on the right we see Prince Charles and Camilla.

We have a slight concern about the frock Princess Beatrice selected, parts of it look awfully… shiny. Perhaps this is merely an unfortunate camera angle.

A favorite with the fashion crowd, Princess Letizia is seen in an elegant grey sleeveless gown, husband Prince Felipe is seen on the left, Queen Sofia is on the right.

We leave you with two things today, the first, another photo from the couple’s shoot with Mario Testino.

That is the image on the official program.(You can look at the program here.)

The other is the music you will when all is said and done, and the couple turns, and heads up the aisle and out of the abbey.

Dressing for Dinner with Tory, Vuitton’s Creatures, Has Kate Designed her own Dress?!?

Hello-Hello, welcome to a new week.

We begin with a little party-hopping, Tory Burch was honored at last week’s “Dinner with a Designer” gala, put on by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America).

John Shearer/Getty Images via WWD.com

We were intrigued by what the folks at The Fashion Lovers said about how guests were dressed:

“In a night where everyone dressed a little too casual for my taste, it was nice to see some stars dressed up a bit.”

Below, Haillee Steinfeld (l) and Eva Amurri (r), both wearing Tory Burch.

Other stars on hand, Teresa Palmer, Michelle Monaghan and Kristin Davis, all three ladies are also dressed in pieces by the designer.

We’re guessing singer Eliza Doolittle may be one of those underdressed individuals being referenced in the quote above.

It is difficult to grasp why anyone would arrive at a party attired this way.

A few very brief updates on the Kate Middleton wedding dress front, the rumors and speculation are now flying at a fast and furious clip.

  • Over the weekend Yvonne Yorke wrote “exclusively!” in a HuffPo post that the designer is Sophie Cranston of Libélula, some readers may recognize the Dulwich coat from that label as worn earlier this year by Miss Middleton.

    FAME via The Huffington Post

  • One peril of suddenly achieving notoriety on a global scale, the traffic can crash your website.

Via Libélula

  • The Daily Mail then breathlessly reported another version of the story:

“Kate designs her own dress: It’s ivory satin and lace with pearl buttons a 10ft train and a ‘nod’ to Lady Diana”

We’re guessing that before we hit publish on this post there will be many more headlines on the topic, it is all becoming very entertaining to watch from afar. (For our two cents on the designer’s wedding gowns, click here to visit sister site What Kate Wore.)

One other note, this one on a footwear line favored by Kate Middleton that we also happen to like, Women’s Wear Daily reports that LK Bennett is entering the US market.

The line will be available this fall at Bloomingdale’s and other upscale shops, as well as two LK Bennett boutiques.

Again, not everyone is interested in the event and all of the hoopla surrounding it. In fact, Page Six reports that NBC is scaling back some of its coverage of the event:

“NBC Universal has cut a number of pretaped segments from its “aggressive and comprehensive coverage” of the royal wedding because insiders fear Prince William and Kate Middleton are “too boring,” according to sources.

“But sources told us worries over viewer fatigue resulted in a decision to cut up to half of the pretaped footage. “They’re allotting fewer resources to it because they’re afraid it’s not going to rate well,” said one.”

According to the paper NBC denies they are cutting back on coverage.

Last week we mentioned a gift popular among those not-quite-so-interested in the goings-on:

We have good news for stateside readers interested in the mugs, they are now available internationally.

We also have quick word about what is being called a “True Prep” sale at online “members only” site Gilt Groupe. The sale is described this way:

“A preppy look is always spot-on for spring—think elegant lawn parties and trips around the Cape—and in this sale you’ll find pieces that go way beyond basic polo. Stock up on buttoned-up basics like cute cardigans and madras dresses, plus an array of pants, skirts, and trenches.”

Below, some of the images accompanying the promotional information (we don’t recognize *any* of the three styles shown).

Via Gilt.com

Frequent readers know we are more-than-underwhelmed by promotion touting the “members-only” aspect of the flash-sale sites, as anyone can join. (If in need of an invitation just click here.)

However, Gilt has previously offered decent discounts, so it is likely we’ll take a peek at what is offered; the sale opens (in a virtual sense) online at midnight tonight (12:01am Tuesday to be more precise).  Gilt is also offering $5.95 shipping on all orders through the 21st, nothing to scoff at IOHO. (They are currently running a Shoshanna sale, another line we are rather fond of here at The Prepatorium.)

We leave you with a few amazing creations from Louis Vuitton.

The ‘creatures’ are all made of small Vuitton leather goods, created at the company’s request by UK artist Billie Achilleos.  Above and below, the “Grasshopper.”

Just 100 Days Away

Hello-Hello, we are fortunate to have another update from our Royal Correspondent, Queen Bee Swain. Without further ado, here is her delightful post.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ClothingBrands24

“What?  You’re telling me you’ve walked down the aisle at Westminster before?!”

We’re sitting pretty with 100 days until THE day I know that I’ve been waiting for since sometime in 2006.  Yes, THE Wedding really is that close.  And yes, Prince William has walked down the aisle at Westminster before… as a page in Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s wedding in 1986.

The Guardian

Prince William is the front-most boy in the sailor outfit.

A few days ago, I caught the “William, Kate and Eight Royal Weddings” special on TLC.  Worth the hour to watch the next time it’s on, it featured weddings from QEII’s to Princess Anne’s to the one currently at hand.  And it must be said, thanks to a very naughty five year old Prince William’s antics as a page, Andrew and Fergie’s took the cake.

The footage and commentary that the TLC special featured for this wedding had been live coverage, which only made me laugh harder at what might just be the funniest thing ever stated by a BBC reporter, upon William walking down the aisle after the marriage, “And Prince William, who was acting mischieviously throughout the ceremony is now tottering down the aisle, with his hat tipped at the back of his head, like a sailor about to go on leave.”  Throughout the ceremony he (as seen in the pictures above) was impishly disobedient, sticking his tongue out at his cousin, Zara, “reading” the program upside-down and acting like any red-blooded (make that blue-blooded?) five year old dressed up as a porcelain doll would.

Via

To top it all off, in the footage of Andrew and Fergie leaving in an open carriage for their honeymoon, just as the carriage leaves, you see Queen Elizabeth BOLTING after it.  Before you can even cook up a reason for why the Primmest of the Proper would run after a carriage of newlyweds embarking on their honeymoon, the announcer notes that QEII had to chase after Prince William, who decided to run after the carriage as it left, immediately the cameraman cuts to Elizabeth who is chuckling very heartily.

I cannot wait to see what missteps and candid moments happen in 100 days time to show us that while royal, this is also a family wedding.

The Queen Bee, kHm
