Fab New Childrens Line, + Preppy Pink & Green

Hello-Hello and Happy Tuesday, we hope everyone is settling into the week, reveling in the waning days of the summer. Sigh.

Does everyone remember how much we all adored the fabulous collection Cynthia Rowley did for Target last summer? We posted about it several times; the name for the line was Whim, a perfect moniker.  Below, a few photos to jog the memory.

Why are we bringing up ancient history? Because we thought readers would be delighted to know that the talented Ms. Rowley has created a children’s line of clothing! Behod :

The line is being sold exclusively at Babies “R” Us, and the pieces are sized for newborns through 4-year-olds.

The Collection is available online now, and in roughly 150 select stores. It includes everything from clothing to diaper bags, blankets and bibs, but the plan is to ultimately grow the collection to include room decor.

We like the Baby Girls Pretty in Plaid Coverall, and we shall use it as a Pretty in Pink for today.

At a mere $12.99 it seems like a fabulous buy, in 100% cotton flannel.  The line is hypothetically called “Hooray” but we recommend against using that as a search term online, as the results will be non-existent. The better selection for a search term seems to be “Cynthia Rowley”.

And BTW, Ms. Rowley sets an example as a good citizen that we love, as we type she is at the NY Public Library’s Childrens Center teaching basic sewing to kids, how wonderful is that?  (This tidbit courtesy of Mommy Poppins, a glorious site for all manner of fun things and resources in the city.)

Now, we were feeling quite guilty bringing up merchandise that one can no longer purchase at le Boutique (Targèt), until we decided to let our fingers do the typing, and voila!

There are still items from the Whim Collection online, like this much-too-cute Sailboat Tray and Salt/Pepper set! We’re thinking Nautical by Nature already has this in her collection, but if not, methinks the price qualifies as being more than fiscally friendly at only $12.99, yes?

However, lest our treasured readers think we are leading them astray, be advised this is one of the very few Whim pieces left, so let us not unfairly and inappropriately raise hopes.  Sniff.

We have a very quick follow-up to part of yesterday’s post, an inquiry about the designer of the dress worn by Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester to the Teen Choice Awards. (In the photo below Ms. Meester is seen with co-star Chace Crawford, the dress is the same however as in yesterday’s post.)

The question involved the designer of Ms. Meester’s dress, and we had nary an idea until perusing today’s WWD, where we read this story replete with all the info one could possibly need:

“…Meester looked every inch the uptown teen she plays on “Gossip Girl” in a retro-glam, black-and-white-striped Louis Vuitton confection from the label’s cruise collection. (The polkadotted grosgrain ribbon she tied at the straps only upped the prep factor.)”

She does look lovely, doesn’t she?

We wanted to share a few more Pretty in Pink goodies, the first is from our terrific new line of Lake House Designs Magnet Boards:

(Don’t you just love the example used for personalization? Hee-hee. Silly Princess.)

These are all customizeable, you select the font, the ink color and the monogram or name you would like to see on the board. They really are fabulous, but we must query our tasteful readers and ask: by what name do you refer to these items? Magnet Board (our usage), memo board, magnetic memo board…? Other? We are feeling rather incompetent at this juncture and trust you to advise us of the appropriate appellation.

One more PIP, albeit more of a Pretty in Pink…and Green, compliments of the delightful Erin at Pink and Green Scene.

It is actually far more pinkish as we recall from seeing the set in person, and loads of fun for anyone looking to perk up the boudoir.

We want to close by saying “Hello” and “Thank You” to the delightful young  hostess of Legally Pink and Green, a wonderful blog where they are holding a Giveaway featuring one of our favorite Preppy Calendars.

It is the “Perfectly Preppy” 2010 Wall Calendar from Donovan Designs, and to say it is a symphony in pink and green almost feels like an understatement.

DDwallcalendarJulyClearly perfect for those fond of bright splashes color on the wall!

With this we fly out the door – have a splendid afternoon dollfaces, we hope it is simply glorious!

Inaugural Fashion Update: Jason Wu for Michelle Obama, More Malia & Sasha in J. Crew

Hello again… and aren’t we wacky this evening, with back-to-back posts on party frocks in our Nation’s Capital?!

Many readers will already know this, but for those with an interest, the gown selected by First Lady Michelle Obama for this evening’s Inaugural Balls is by Jason Wu.

The 26-year-old designer created a lush one-shouldered gown that was a mastery of draping.

A close-up provides a better look at the intricate detailing Mr. Wu is known for; the dress is covered in Swarovski crystals.

The Taiwanese-born designer is no stranger to celebrities; one fan is Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, seen in September at Wu’s runway show.

Earlier this year Mrs. Obama wore the designer for an interview with Barbara Walters:

Below, the dress as seen on the runway for the Spring 2009 collection.  The raw silk print dress retails for approximately $3150, according to Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan at one of our favorite blogs, the WSJ’s Heard on the Runway.

Another celebrity fan of Mr. Wu is 30 Rock star Katrina Bowden, seen below in a photo with the designer in Teen Vogue.

Let us not forget the dashing figure cut by the President:

As we first reported in this post last year, the President donned a single-button notch-lapel tuxedo by Hart Schaffner Marx. The Gold Trumpeter Tuxedo retails for $950.

As described on the company’s website:

Gold Trumpeter elevates the luxury of the Hart Schaffner Marx brand. World class piece goods are used exclusively in all Gold Trumpeter garments. Trim details such as wing facing in the coat and a gripper waistband are the hallmarks of the Gold Trumpeter garment. The Gold Trumpeter garment is available in both the Classic and Collection fit.”

At Nordstrom it is called the Capital Collection Gold Trumpeter Tuxedo, retailing at $895.

We are still seeking information to bring you on the gown worn by Vice-President Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden.

And we have a little more on the J. Crew ensembles worn by Malia and Sasha Obama earlier today, courtesy of the media mavens at that preppy retailer. All of the details one are available in this snooze news release.

“The Obamas continued to show their support for J.Crew at this morning’s Swearing-In, where the girls wore full looks from crewcuts by J.Crew and the new First Lady accessorized her outfit with classic olive green leather gloves from J.Crew. Malia featured a deep periwinkle blue coat, while her equally chic sister wore a deep coral dress under her sweet guava coat, vivid orange scarf and glove set, each tied with a velvet ribbon belt around the waist.”

Click on the link above for the entire text of the release; it does include details on additional items from J. Crew and Crewcuts worn by the First Family over the celebratory weekend.  That includes the Herbie Coats Sasha and Malia wore to the We are One concert on Sunday. The subhead on the release?

The release also advises us that:

“… the girls kept warm in crewcuts by J.Crew wool pique Herbie coats, detailed with grosgrain piping and charmeuse linings. Sasha wore an ivory style with hammered brass buttons, while Malia wore a dove grey double cloth style with horn buttons.”

Sunday’s concert was noted for A-level entertainers like Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and U2.

One of the best-kept secrets of the entire gala was the presence of several A-list bloggers, including Nautical by Nature and the Landlocked Mermaid.  Sources tell us they both elected to maintain a low-key presence in efforts to discourage autograph seekers and hangers-on.  (Ssshhh – more on their perspectives in a later post.)

Back to the cute coats: we do not think you will locate the coats on the retailer’s website. And any references to them on shopping search engines have either been taken down, or carry addendum indicating the coat is “no longer available.” We did locate one image of the coat; it does not fully match the images seen in the photos:

Lest anyone be concerned the marketing minds at Crew are not seizing the moment:

BTW, the marketing minds over at Barney’s wasted no time in adapting their front page as well, maximizing their connection with a now-famous designer they have supported for years, Isabel Toledo.

We’ll close with one last photo we thought was too cute…

We’ll be back with more, including the Princess Consort’s take on Jason Wu’s preppy aesthetic, including some pretty in pink confections from the runway. No to mention the divine finds at the Market in Chicago.

Target’s Next Designer Lines? It’s All About Accessories & Fab Cosmetics

EDITOR’S NOTE: The title of our post changed to accommodate the following comment:

Hello, I am wrting you concerning the name cool cosmetics/ You must remove this from your we-site and product I own the name by trademark.

If you do not remove you will leave me no choice but to turn this over to our corporate attorney’s.

Regina Swope

We made the egregious error of using the words c-ol cosmetics in our title. Sigh.

The Princess is a trifle scattered this bright and sunny Saturday. It’s possible we may have flung ourselves a little too enthusiastically into our favorite new sport, extreme gardening. We discovered this earlier in the week, and let us just say, why head to the Club when one can achieve the same (perhaps better) results right here at the Prepatorium.

There is simply so much preppy and style news The Princess is tracking, we’re all atwitter! Would you be so good as to allow us to just ‘cut to the chase,’ as I believe the operative phrase states, and we’ll dispense with our more civilized “Hello,” and “How are you’s” if that is all right with you.

Target Logo

As part of their very successful and generally very cool Design for All program Target is adding three permanent cosmetic lines and they have also announced their next two temporary fashion collections!

The Boutique is planning their next special collections for the not too distant future, and accessory lovers will be celebrating, as it is going to be all about shoes and handbags! Sigerson Morrison will create Target’s 3rd limited edition shoe collection. We showcase a luscious yellow flat from the fab designing duo of Kari Sigerson and Miranda Morrison, and these just happen to be on sale at the pair’s own site.

Sigerson Morrison Flat

The next limited edition handbag designer will be from dynamic British designer Anya Hindmarch; below we show a Hindmarch embellished satin clutch from the Vivre site. Both lines launch October 12th.

As usual, the collections will be available at select Target stores nationwide and at Target.com, in this case through December 26. The dates have The Princess wondering if, at least on the handbag side of things, there is an expectation of holiday gift buying with this particular group, as they are selling essentially for the month of November through the day after Christmas? An expiring mind would so love to know.

While it is no surprise Target is making the big moves on the cosmetics front, we didn’t know they were signing up such big names, especially Jemma Kidd.

Jemma Kidd Image

Aussie Napoleon Perdis is also a big get for Target, although the Princess must admit this isn’t a name with which we were familiar. Perhaps one of our favorite bloggers of a prepitatious persuasion, Nautical by Nature, who is wrapping up her Australian Excellent Adventure, can enlighten us on Mr. Perdis (seen below).

Napoleon Perdis at Work

The third new cosmetics name for Target comes from Petra Strand, one of the founders of niche British cosmetics brand, Pixi.

Pixi Cosmetics Home Page

It sounds as though the retailer is going to be very smart about this, spending up to $15 million just on the first six weeks of the new products’ launch. Target is going to continue its relationship with Sonia Kashuk, the company’s first entrant into their Design for All line in cosmetics.

Arguably the biggest thing Target is doing in the cosmetics department is this: they will have testers for these new lines that will play a big role in getting customers introduced to the new products! (If you’re one of our gentlemen readers or unfamiliar with the earth-shaking nature of this announcement, let it simply be said that for years Target has been strongly criticized by customers and industry insiders for their refusal to use testers, a backbone of department store cosmetic departments.)
