This is the most fun we have had doing a Giveaway, but need to know if you liked it; is having multiple winners of multiple prizes a good way to go, or would you prefer it simply be one prize? Did you like the cross-section of prizes, or would you prefer the selection be all one product line? Do tell, because these are your giveaways, we are merely the intermediary, and we want them to be what you want, not simply our notion of what is fun.

The Lilly Pulitzer Spring/Summer 2010 Stationery & Gift Collection

Hello-Hello and Happy Tuesday!

We are back from a wonderful trip to the market where we saw all manner of new  goodies. (We are very excited by some of the new lines we shall soon be be adding to the Princess – can you say nautical!)

But first we focus on the new additions to our Lilly Pulitzer Stationery and Gift line, as they are just too fun. Since we first shared sneak peeks of a few items via Facebook or Twitter the mighty IT department here at Princess Intergalactic HQ  (umm…. that would be the Consort) has been typing and uploading photos into the wee hours.  A quick note on the Spring/Summer line: the items are up on the site and now available for pre-ordering only, we anticipate shipping in mid to late February.

We begin with the incredibly popular Thermal Travel Mugs; some readers may recall that the fall/winter mugs sold out within weeks.

PreppyPrincess.com

As seen in the photo above, the new crop of mugs are offered in Queen of Green, Crabtastic, Hanging Around and Later Gator.

Next, the fabulous new Ink Pens.

PreppyPrincess.com

The Pens come in the Desert Tort, Crabtastic, Hanging Around, and Patchtastic patterns. Many readers are familiar with the Lilly pom-poms, many have used them for more than just party decor, decorating dorm rooms, bedrooms and more. Now there are Lilly Paper Lanterns providing a vivid, vibrant splash of color wherever you choose!

PreppyPrincess.com

Next, the new Lilly Picture Frames.

PreppyPrincess.com

We are already overly attached to some of the new patterns, like Silver Dollars and Crabtastic (in both pink and blue colorways).

Also new to the line, Melamine Dishes.

PreppyPrincess.com

These come as beautifully pre-packaged Place Settings with a plate, bowl and matching knife/fork….

PreppyPrincess.com

…. or they may be purchased individually. (Because we have already fielded an inquiry on the topic, we want to let you know that if seeking the knife and fork, the only way to acquire them is with the gift sets.)

PreppyPrincess.com

Also new in tabletop, the Lilly Placemats coordinate perfectly with the melamine dishes, offered in both Later Gator and Desert Tort in a water-resistant, durable material.  At only $5.50, they make a new look for your table a reasonable undertaking.

PreppyPrincess.com

Recognizing some fight this odd, we’re going to share it anyway: we believe that Silly Tilly would like (nay, requires!) one of these under her dishes to enhance her drinking and dining experiences. Now we ask, is that wrong?

We move on to the always-popular Latte Da! mugs, now available in three of the new patterns: Desert Tort, Crabtastic, and Bamboo Patch.  Of course, most of the Classic patterns are still available as well.

PreppyPrincess.com

Below we have a better look at Bamboo Patch and Crabtastic (blue).

Brand new and already a crowd-pleaser: Lilly’s new Watch Sets!

PreppyPrincess.com

Each set includes two patterned bands and they are perfectly packaged for gifting.

PreppyPrincess.com

Designed to fit all ages, the wristwatches come in Later Gator, Desert Tort or Patchtastic and run $19.50. Perhaps the very thing you need for one of the young graduates on your list this spring, or a special member of the bridal party? (Remember, we provide gift wrap at no additional charge; if you just alert us to your needs, we can use Lilly paper or come up with something to fit almost any theme or personality. Just because we like to have fun with tape. Heh-heh-heh.)

Also a great gift any time of the year, the new Lilly Luggage Tags, especially at just $5.50.

PreppyPrincess.com

If thinking about sprucing up the office, the new File Folders provide a bright splash of color; below we show the Desert Tort and Crabtastic folders, Patchtastic is not shown.

The new patterns are also seen on loads of other products, like the Mini Notebooks, the Sticky Notes with Lilly Pads, and the Dry Erase Boards, to name just a few of the fun items sporting the new patterns.

We’re also tickled to be offering items tied into the Lilly Loves Green campaign, like these new Market Bags in Creme Fraiche and Queen of Green.

PreppyPrincess.com

At 17″ x 14″ (and almost 8″ deep!) and only $10 they make a trip to the farmer’s market or grocery not fun, and a little more eco-friendly, eliminating the need for paper or plastic bags.

Now, there are loads of goodies not included in our little post, so be sure to pop over and have a peek if/when the spirit moves you.

Thank you for indulging us while we spout about our excitement over the new Lilly treasures; tomorrow we shall return with one of our more standard posts, and later in the week we will share some of the new and faboo Jonathan Adler Nifty Gifties!

Michelle Obama in J. Crew Again, Tommy Hilfiger’s East Hampton Store

Happy April Fun Day!

Turning a page on the calendar here at the Prepatorium is always a pleasure this time of year, and today does not disappoint. In keeping with the bright sunshine outside we wanted to share a few updates to some of our favorite collections at the shop.

We start with additions to our Lilly Pulitzer Stationery & Gifts group.  The Stickers & Labels Set matches our springtime mood perfectly!

PreppyPrincess.com

PreppyPrincess.com

The set includes 20 sheets of classic Lilly designs, and at only $14 they have turned out to be an excellent little gift. Another perfect present for someone special, the Circle Notes in Mumsie and Animal Crackers.

We like the way they are finished off with the perky little grosgrain bows in matching shades of pink.

Preppy-style retailer J. Crew must be on Cloud 9 today with news of Michelle Obama’s wardrobe choices for her first public appearance in London.

The First Lady selected Crew’s Dazzling Dots pencil skirt ($158) and the Crystal Constellation Cardigan ($298).

But if you are now making plans for adding the cardigan to your walk-in (it really is a delightful choice for an evening out), we bring you not-such-wonderful news: according to the J. Crew site, the sweater is sold out.

We do enjoy British narratives on fashion, including the Guardian’s description of the outfit:

“As every girl who shops on the high street knows, it is the accessories that make or break an outfit. Obama did not put a foot wrong in low-heeled animal-skin-print heels and her signature pearls.”

Yesterday Mrs. Obama wore a  custom-made Thakoon coat with grosgrain piping when boarding Air Force One.

Upon arriving in London the First Lady was in a Jason Wu chartreuse silk crepe short sleeve sheath accented by a shawl collar.

The young designer tells WWD he had no idea Mrs. Obama would be wearing another one of his creations.

“Yellow is such a great color, and it’s nice that we are seeing spring right now,” Wu said. “It’s definitely very optimistic.”

We couldn’t be happier to see the First Lady in American designers again; we eagerly await news of her attire for her meeting with the Queen!

One note before we leave this topic: J. Crew is doing another Final Sale promotion, with an additional 30% Off sale prices.

Another word of caution however, this offer is not good at retail or factory stores, and it ends tomorrow (April 2) at midnight.  To receive the discount, use promo code EXTRA30 at checkout.

Also today, news that Tommy Hilfiger has opened his new store in East Hampton, right on Main Street.

For today’s Adventures in Argyle we share another bit of shameless self-promotion…

PreppyPrincess.com

…using one of our new Ribbon Key Fobs.

PreppyPrincess.com

PreppyPrincess.com

You select the ribbon of your choice, as well as the webbing.  And to be perfectly crass (again, really, how tasteless can we be?) in discussing prices, let’s just worsen the situation, shall we? These fun and fabulous goodies are a mere $5, offering the perfect pick-me-up gift for just about anyone on your list.

To be completely candid dolls, this is one of those times when we are grateful Great Aunt Molly departed this planet long before seeing us engaged in discussing something as inappropriate as this.  Frankly, the poor woman would be horrified; but then, having a career in tv for all those years didn’t exactly conform to family standards either.

Finally today, a peek at the new Britney Spears marketing poster for her Candie’s Only line at Kohl’s.

Candie's Only at Kohl's

Candie's Only at Kohl's

The collection debuts in April. US Weekly will distribute 4 million copies of this poster in their April 15 issue.  Previous “Candie’s Girls” include Avril Lavigne and Hayden Panettiere.

We must apologize, as yesterday we promised photos from the Kate Spade fall collection, and we have just run out of space and time. Tomorrow, we promise-promise-promise!

Old School Preppy & More J. Crew for the First Lady,

Hello everybody, please accept our apologies for the lack of a post yesterday. We have been simply swamped filling all of the Lilly Pulitzer pre-orders we received here at the Princess! It seems TPC (The Princess Consort, aka The Spousal Unit) gave the minions the day off! All of them! (Ahem. Right.)

So it seems we shall be forced to engage in actual manual labor again today. Honestly! But someone must help pack these…

And these….

We move on now to a look at Southern Proper’s new looks from their outstanding  Southern Seaside Collection.

Seaside Blast from Southern Proper

Southern Seaside at Southern Proper

For those unfamiliar with this fine establishment, it is well worth an investment of time to gaze at their offerings.

Not only is the merchandise refined and elegant, it is also whimsical, a rare combination to find well done, as it is at this firm.

Southern Proper

While the company specializes in ‘Haberdashery for the Gentleman,’ they do offer their Belle Bands for the ladies:

We have been planning on posting about the company for months, but receiving their Southern Seaside email finally nudged to do it and we’re glad we did; we always have fun looking at their superb merchandise.

The Brooks Brothers Black Fleece shop received a visit from one of our favorite columnists, Cintra Wilson, another of the Critical Shopper writers at the Times.

In describing the look and feel of the store Ms. Wilson takes a shot at a retailer arriving more recently to the prep aesthetic:

“It’s a slightly gothic twist on the Old Money Athletic Club look, originally reified into postmodern absurdity when Ralph Lauren stuck crusty leather bridles and yellowing crew-team photos on mahogany paneling and pronounced it a lifestyle.”

Ouch! The story naturally focuses on designer Thom Browne, the man responsible for the Black Fleece collection; a few looks are shown below.

women-outfit-390-detailwomen-outfit-337-detail

BTW, the Black Fleece Chesterfield Coat (above left) is now selling at $598; it was originally $4200.  Also above, the Double-Breasted Chesterfield in navy, originally $3700, now $598.  Double ouch.

Ms. Wilson approached her assignment with some excitement, eager to try on the apparel, but she was disappointed.

“I found, in most cases, that the proportions were a bit off. The necks were too tight, the skirts too tentlike, the busts flattening.”

The writer does more comparing between Mr. Browne and Mr. Lauren:

“Mr. Browne, like Mr. Lauren, nurtures a fetish for the trappings of Old School Preppy, but the Thom Browne alumnus seems to be a bit more pale, less muscular and more (ahem) eccentric. Picture a cross between Pee-wee Herman and Nurse Ratched, only more obsessive-compulsive.”

Ultimately Ms. Wilson concludes Thom Browne is a “gifted designer,” but one who needs to figure out how proportions differ between men’s and women’s clothing.

“While superb on a mannequin, Mr. Browne’s designs don’t seem to possess any sympathy for the kinetic demands of three-dimensional hips and breasts.”

BTW, there do not appear to be any Black Fleece spring collection pieces online. It may be the company is slow in getting them to the web, or perhaps they need to clear out more old inventory before showing current looks.  And a significant amount of old merchandise remains at Brooks’ online shop.  We did not see *any* pieces that were not discounted by at least 50%.

The folks at Rare Daily also review the recently-opened store:

“The interior is a masculine contrast to Browne’s shrinking suits. It’s lavish and upscale.”

However, we do have to disagree with their statement that “… (Thom) Browne is the new Black this season.”

++++++++++++++++++++++++

We haven’t updated the goings-on at G2 (Gossip Girl) lately, we’ll just do a quick hit mentioning Blake Lively at the premiere of her new film, “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.”

Ms.Lively is wearing the Silk Trompe L’oeil Wrap Gown by one of our faves, Oscar de la Renta. (It is available online.) Also seen with the actress at the opening in Berlin, Zoe Kazan (R) and Robin Wright Penn (2nd R), and director Rebecca Miller (2nd L).

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Because we are just as concerned about your trust fund as you are, we thought it timely to share a few sales at retail establishments you may be fond of, like Banana Republic.  They have added to their already healthy clearance selection.

Banana Republic

Banana Republic

We received another email from Polo Ralph Lauren this morning, touting their markdowns as well, “Now up to 75% Off“.

And the J. Crew President’s Day sale at their Factory Stores offer “up to 50% off” in their “Goodbye Winter Clearance” as well as 20-50% off “select Spring arrivals.”  This promotion runs through 2/18.

Speaking of J. Crew, the retailer must have been thrilled to hear that Michelle Obama wears another of their pieces in the March issue of Vogue.

A reminder that the Princess Consort has been typing his little fingers to the bone, making sure some of the Lilly merchandise is up on the Princess website for pre-ordering.  The Lilly folks say they are shipping February 1st; we expect our first shipment being here by the 4th or 5th of February. Pre-ordering means your order gets out the door first when the Lilly merchandise arrives here. Pre-orders are at the top of the list and will be turned around on the same day we receive the merchandise from Lilly.

We also said we would share some sneak peeks from the market. Here is a glance at two new patterns from Scout that we went ga-ga over, starting with the Poolside Stripe:

On the topic of Inaugural fashion, the LA Times raises a question about the propriety of a First Lady borrowing jewelry, in relation to these $17,000 Loree Rodkin earrings.

LoreeRodkin.com

Michelle Obama wore the sparklers to Sunday’s concert.

Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty

PHOTO: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty

(Frankly, TP is far more fascinated by the Narciso Rodriguez ensemble in camel and black, really quite elegant IOHO.)  The paper’s All the Rage blog cites rules about borrowed apparel and accessories set up when Ronald Reagan was President in the 1980s, and Mrs. Reagan was chided for her frequent borrowing of designer clothes.

“Michelle Obama wore $17,000 diamond chandelier earrings designed by Loree Rodkin to the “We Are One” concert on Sunday — not a gift from her husband, but borrowed from a Chicago retailer. The next morning, dispatches were dutifully sent out from the publicist for Rodkin to let the press know whom to credit for her ear candy. How very red carpet.”

Yikes… that seems a little cranky, no? We presume All the Rage would apply the same question to Tuesday night’s jewelry, a healthy 77.6 carats in diamonds, again, borrowed from Loree Rodkin. (Mrs. Obama is seen with U.S. Army Sgt. Margaret H. Herrera following her dance with President Obama.)

Gary Hershorn/Reuters

PHOTO: Gary Hershorn/Reuters

The Arizona Republic has a little more information on the bling (that is the proper term…yes?) in this story:

“Curious about costs, we called Moody Blues boutique in Scottsdale, which carries Loree Rodkin jewelry. There, a chain necklace with a cross pendant covered in an estimated 3 carats of diamonds is $21,000, says Catie Cerutti, store manager.

We’d hate to draw any cost-per-carat conclusions based on that, but . . . oh, who are we kidding. Our math shows that Obama could have been wearing $543,200 worth of diamonds.”

There you have it.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now, if you are interested in sporting a knock-off of the First Lady’s Jason Wu gown, eDressMe has one available. Really.

eDressMe.com

eDressMe.com

We have an answer to our question Is Jason Wu Preppy?, asked in this post: absolutely.  Without question. According to Eric Wilson’s story in today’s Times, he attended Loomis, a not-very-well-know Connecticut boarding school.

We credit the Consort for the sharp eye on this – he is such a Fashionisto. (The male version of Fashionista…hello?)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And in our “The Princess wasn’t Born Yesterday” category, we pose a question: is it possible that the “Marvelous Malia” and “Sweet Sasha” dolls pictured below have absolutely no connection whatsoever to the little girls who just moved into the White House?!

Scott Olson/Getty

PHOTO: Scott Olson/Getty

That’s what the folks at Ty say; they just released the dolls for sale, and controversy  about the TyGirlz dolls is growing. An Associated Press story explains the “coincidence”:

“The Oak Brook-based company chose the names because ‘they are beautiful names,’ not because of any resemblance to Malia and Sasha Obama, said spokeswoman Tania Lundeen.”

“‘There’s nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls,’ Lundeen said. ‘It would not be fair to say they are exact replications of these girls.

Oh.  Silly Princess.

However – let it be said that at least the moronic company (really, this is PR Debacle 101 level stuff) put a little madras on the dolls’ cuffs and one pair of sneakers.

Do enjoy your Saturday and Sunday!
