Sneak Peek at Missoni for Target

Hello-Hello, welcome to another gorgeous day, the kind we all live for here in The Great Midwest.

Our focus today is that much-buzzed-about Missoni for Target collection, the retailer’s upcoming collaboration with the fabled Italian design house. We have a sneak peek at the line, although anyone looking at their September fashion magazines has already seen a bit of the line.

If you’ve not yet seen the campaign, prepare thyself. It will be *everywhere*.

There has already been significant editorial coverage on the line, including this piece in the August issue of Vogue.

We start with these two pieces for your little prince or princess, they are darling.  As with the entire collection, the key will be quality: hopefully these are as soft and snuggly as they look.

Missoni’s signature motif is evident in just about all of the photos “leaked” (more about that later) thus far.

This is Target’s most ambitious collaborative effort yet, with 400+ pieces in the collection.

The group is so big there is more than one bicycle.

There are housewares of all kinds, including dishes that look very fun.

As well as accessories and luggage.

Linens and home accent pieces are also part of the enormous line.

There are lots of things for the tabletop.

Office supplies look a little zippier in Missoni designs; although this isn’t our favorite color palette, the colors are in keeping with a fall/winter collection.

Even with all of the other categories teeming with treasures, fashion remains a key focus of the collection.

We referenced the “leaked photos’, they carry the scent of a very well done publicity campaign, suddenly appearing on the tumblr blogging service. (Yes, yours truly also has a tumblr, found here.) The blog is All the Way Up Here, penned by “Marina”.

“That’s right, joints, hinges and all. And like every doll, I’m obsessed with everything stylish in the world. So that’s what my blog is all about. I hope you enjoy the view.”

A very savvy effort indeed.

The Times carried a lengthy story about the collection on Monday.

“Some Americans may be confused about how to mix and match the brand’s bold colors — bright hues of green, blue, fuchsia and orange — and patterns, including the company’s trademark jagged lines, against other prints.

Online viewers will find a selection of items called “Margherita’s Must Haves.” As they click through the products they like, they will see recommendations on how to combine those items with others.”

The collection launches September 13, although those lucky enough to be in the the city for Fashion’s Night Out on September 8th will have a chance to shop early at a pop-up store.  Prices will range from $2.99 to $599.99, the Times story says most items will be less than $40.

Because we are partial to libraries and books we leave you with a note about a wonderful event this weekend, the annual Author’s Night party befitting the East Hampton Library.  This year more than 160 authors will be on hand at the party, including Martin Amis, Nelson DeMille, Susan Lucci and Kathy Freston.  Tickets start at $100, that gets you into the party at the library with the authors, that function is followed by private dinners all over town, those tickets run a bit more.

Here are just a few of the books by authors who will be at the event, the volume shown far right, Sag Harbor by Colson Whitehead, is a very good read, the others are all books sure t be added to the never-ending list of books marked as “to read”.

On that literary note, goodbye until next time!

Target’s Next Designer Collaboration, & It Was Bobbi Brown for Kate Middleton

Hello-Hello, happy middle-of-the-week to everyone.

We begin with what could be wonderful news, word that Le Boutique Targét’s next collaborative partnership will be with Missoni.

Stefano Rellandini/Reuters; Luca Bruno/AP via The NY Times

The styles above are from 2007, but you get the idea. For those unfamiliar with the brand, Missoni is known for their strong designs, saturated in lush, vibrant colors.  Below, Alessia Piovan in Missoni, surrounded by pieces from the home collection during Milan Design Week last month.

Below we see Margherita Missoni at Monday’s Met Ball with Joy Bryant.

Vogue broke the news:

“…the 400-plus fruits of their collaboration (the biggest to date, apparently) will hit Target stores nationwide, the latest in a long line of couplings for the retailer (Proenza Schouler and Rodarte among them). Everything from clothes (women’s, men’s, kids’), to bed sheets, to enough dinnerware to set the table for colazione, pranzo, and cena—all in plenty of Missoni’s swirls, zigzags, and near-hallucinogenic florals.”

Although concerned by sentiment that the Target/Calypso collaboration is sub-par, we are optimistic this will be a strong collection. Our favorite part of the group is likely to be things made for the home.  Below, Missoni dinnerware shown at Milan.

Next, we look at a line being shown at Australian Fashion Week, now underway in Sydney. The designer is Lisa Ho, we may have a new obsession.

Another follow-up to our royal wedding coverage, word on who helped Kate Middleton with her makeup. From the Bobbi Brown FB page:

“We are proud to confirm that Bobbi Brown Cosmetics makeup artist Hannah Martin provided makeup artistry assistance to members of the bridal party for the Royal Wedding. We wish to respect the privacy of all those involved, and therefore will not be releasing further details.”

The company has a step-by-step primer for those interested in learning more about the look, or trying it themselves.

We have news about still more ‘copy-Kate’ gowns, dresses imitating the Sarah Burton/Alexander McQueen dress created for the newly titled Duchess of Cambridge.

Here is the version made for House of Fraser, a UK retailer. The Belfast Telegraph has more:

“Local dressmaker Mary Rose McGrath was among the hundreds of designers who got to work making cut-price copies of the regal look.

Her take on the gown, made of French lace and delicate ivory fabric, was put together in less than 24 hours.

It is said to be a perfect replica of Kate’s dress.”

We’ll have more on this knockoff and others at our sister site, What Kate Wore, later today. (We already have a lengthy piece looking at other dresses copying both Kate and Pippa Middleton’s gowns, including one Nordstrom is offering.)

We leave you with today’s Pretty in Pink, personalized hard candy.

Yum Baked Goods

How darling would that be as a wedding favor? The candies are from etsy seller Yum Baked Goods, and they come in a variety of colors. We also like the company’s Tie the Knot rings.

Until next time, g’bye!

St. John Launches a New Line, Runway to Change & Those Timmy Woods Political Purses

Hello-Hello and happy day! The Princess was delighted to learn today that St. John is launching a new line.

“SoCa” will hit stores in November. Aimed at a younger, hipper customer it will primarily feature a contemporary casual collection. St. John says the new line will be operated entirely separately from the existing brand. In fact, there are actually going to be separate freestanding SoCa stores, with the earliest opening in California at South Coast Plaza (in Orange County, one of TP’s Top Five Shopping Destinations) and in Palm Desert.

TP considers this is a sharp move by St. John; it will help the continued recovery from previous missteps the company made in trying to reach a younger demo. This line is targeting women aged 35-55 and is a clear departure from the company’s signature brand.

Here’s a bit more specific information from today’s WWD story:

“The line also will be available in 125 stores and displayed alongside brands such as Tory Burch and M Missoni in Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. Retail prices range from $195 to $295 for tops and pants, and $395 to $695 for jackets and dresses.”

With the exception of the shorts and sequins above left (it just looks a bit…um… well, it looks a little ‘tarty’ for our taste) the pieces are solid, but also edgier, exactly what the doctor ordered to help in recovering the audience driven off by St. John’s previous efforts in this arena. Muffy Martini may want to check her social calendar for November 14th; the line will be part of a a charity fashion show benifiting Music for the Cure in Laguna Beach.

This announcement about the new brand comes on the heels of the launch of St. John’s renovated website. The rehabbed style is vastly improved in appearance and ease of use; it has what is called a “seamless link” to the Neiman-Marcus online store providing the site’s backbone for the time being.

Next year St. John will launch its own e-commerce site with a substantial social networking component. Things to look forward to!

As many of you are no doubt aware, TP has made, and will continue to make, every effort to keep partisan politics out of this ever-so-humble blogging endeavor. However, when appropriate events dictate we have, and will, feature relevant content, like today’s Runway to Change. As has been evident throughout the summer, the Obama camp has outmaneuvered the McCain-Palin ticket on mobilizing some of the fashion industry.

Readers may have seen some of these, as the official kick off for the effort was during New York Fashion Week. Runway to Change is a fundraising endeavor (well, “duh” as the younger generation is wont to say) selling items created by notable designers supporting the Obama-Biden ticket. The most publicized tee is probably the Tracy Reese design seen above, with a close-up of the logo below.

At the launch party many commented on the Nanette Lepore Hope Anchor tee with attached pin, below.

Juicy Couture’s “Dude, Where’s The Hope?” was a crowd favorite at the party.

On the Republican side of the aisle there has not been an effort with this level of creativity or cache. There is a broad selection of tees, caps and the like, such as this Students for McCain tee….

Or this one, with “John McCain is my Facebook Friend” on the front and on the back it simply says  “Seriously.”

One thing we like about the McCain-Palin store is the following:

Which is a surprise for TP, but we do appreciate the technicalities being spelled out.

“This store is operated by an independent, for-profit company. Proceeds from sales of merchandise do not benefit, and should not be considered a contribution to the John McCain 2008 campaign.”

There is also an Eco-Friendly product category.

Of course, if one seeks a more noteworthy and distinctive style statement, there is always the Barack Obama inspired purse, as created by the renowned Timmy Woods.

According to the website, the Obama bag is a ‘Limited Edition” of 100 and was added to the Woods Collection in late August. You remember Timmy Woods…the Sex and the City movie? The Eiffel Tower bag? Nordstrom has it, but only in the clutch or wristlet version which we have not yet seen in person. It is shown on the Woods website in a version covered with 6,300 Swarovski Crystals.

Well, she has also come up with the Democratic bag at $325…

Or the Republican Bag, also at $325.

If you don’t want to wear your vote on your sleeve, there is always the Flag II bag

The chances one would you ever spot The Princess carrying one of these are slim and none; none is actually looking good as of this writing. However, *if* forced to name one as a favorite, we would select the following, because after all, we are all about the love. This is the Bipartisan Bag, at $315.

‘Night.

McMommy’s Sex & the City Movie Premiere Fashion Statement

Greetings and a warm welcome to all this holiday weekend! Most importantly, fond and grateful remembrances for each and every individual who made it possible for us to be who and what we are today. Sigh. We are so very blessed.

Today’s post is brief, as what The Princess is actually doing is engaging in a grown-up version of Paper Dolls, only doing it online! How tedious for all of you!

Dolly Dingle Paper Dolls

The Back Story: Today’s post is mostly about McMommy. She is simply one of the very best Bloggers in the Galaxy. Period.

McMommy Chronicles

At any rate, for some reason (we’re thinking a few too many Manhattans), McMommy wrote an absolutely insane comment on TP’s blog related to the McPrincess’s fashion skills. The non-existent skills. As in none. N-O-N-E. You see, The McMommy is attending a gala for a movie premiere later this month with her Besties and thought perchance we might provide a bit of fashion insight. TP was mortified! The only insight we have is determining which pearls go with what twinset! Of course, the movie that is opening is Sex and the City, a film with a cast of gowns, party frocks and accessories to kill for, although (as we have frequently noted) some are more than a bit over the top. Quite. Now McMommy did mention in her query an affinity for the wardrobe leanings of Charlotte’s character, at least more so than any of the other three women in the primary roles; TP is grateful for small favors.

After much window shopping, The Princess came up with the following selections: One of the two short formal party frocks seen below, both from Le Boutique Tar-szhay, both from the Isaac Mizrahi for Target® line. The first is the Pink Lace Ruched Dress, and the second is the deep pink or fuchsia Taffeta Camelot Party Dress, seen just below the lace close-up.

Now that you have selected the dress, it’s on to the shoe issue. Or non-issue in this case, as we think you will absolutely fall in love with these as soon as you see them: the Marjean Slide Sandals from Joan and David, complete with grosgrain bow. These are on sale at Shoes.com and while not the extraordinary value the Mizrahi dresses are, where else will you find such a superb use of grosgrain ribbon on a sandal? Exactly.

To compensate for your little splurge on the sandals, you will appreciate the exquisite good taste and economic appeal of a vintage Judith Leiber bag on eBay. Originally purchased at I. Magnin (or at least we think so looking at the label on the interior of the bag), this clutch-style bag can be carried by its crystal studded chain, or used as a clutch and of course, you know which option The Princess recommends. This treasure is the real deal, it is in immaculate condition and even comes with its own little comb! Let’s chat for a moment about the bag’s ability to also provide you a timeless style statement: a Leiber is a classic, and so are you. End of story.

Of course one never knows these days whether the temperature inside the theatre will be bone-chilling cold or makeup-melting hot, so it’s imperative you bring a wrap. The Princess thought perhaps the oversized blue floral Versace scarf or lovely Emilio Pucci draped over your shoulders would work, both at Bluefly.com.

If these don’t whet your whistle, how is McMommy feeling about a Diane von Furstenburg oversized scarf in a lush linen and cotton blend that is oh-so-soft against the skin?

Or the Missoni woven shawl wrap in one of their always elegant knits? The von Furstenberg and Missoni are both on sale (but of course) and both are from Net-a-Porter, a truly wonderful web site if ever there was one, with such glorious service you’ll think you are at Nordstrom!Missoni Knit Shawl Wrap

We do hope this McMommy sorta’ kinda’ McCharlotte Party Frockage look we’ve created meets with approval. If not, do let the McPrincess know where we went wrong, so that we might amend our outlook for the next premiere of a SATC film. It is only a matter of time……yes?
