Mad for Plaid: Summer 2011 Version

Hello-Hello, welcome to the start of a new week.

We are once again brief, beginning with a look at something the folks at FabSugar put together, a look at one of our favorite fabrics entitled “Why Madras is Perfect to Wear Right Now“.

“As far as prints go, madras has earned its stripes as a preppier staple. It makes us think of New England Summers and looks fresh and seasonal on our button-downs, bikinis, and even sneakers.”

The story offers several items in the material, including this J. Crew jacket and this A.P.C. Dress.

Also featured in the piece, the Converse Madras sneakers and a Rugby ‘Erin’ Bikini.

The FabSugar story made us think about how much we do love this textile, and we went off on a search for more. Of course it is an exceptionally good time to add to your plaid collection, many retailers have discounted summer goods significantly. Below left we show the J. Crew Boys Shirt in Teal Madras (was $48, now $29.99), on the right we have a men’s Button Down in Eureka Madras (originally $69, now $49.99).

LL Bean also has some bargains to offer, including this Meetinghouse Plaid Skirt, almost 50% off at $29.99. (Although the cut of the skirt will not be flattering on everyone.)

Back to the gentlemen again, Macy’s offers the Izod Madras Shorts at $34.99 (left), the Nautica Madras on the right are also on sale at Macy’s, now $39.99.

Although we don’t generally think of madras as being pastel, the girls’ sun-faded Jacket and Bermuda Shorts really do look cute, and both are on sale.

Because the ladies seem to get short-shrift when it comes to madras apparel and accessories (notwithstanding specialty boutiques like Cape Madras and Just Madras), your trusty scribe is tempted to buy one of the men’s classic Short Sleeve Madras Shirts at Lands’ End.

There are some cute things at Kohl’s, like the Chaps Plaid Sundress for infant girls, now $16, it was originally $32.

Also darling for your little darling, the Sophie Rose Sundress at $12 from $24, this is from Kohl’s as well.

The Woven Pajama Shorts for Juniors at Kohl’s come in a wonderful array of vibrant colors and plaids, they are now on sale for $7.99.

6pm (Zappo’s discount site) has some madras shoes, including the Vineyard Vines Flip Flops (for men or women) at $31.50 (approximately 30% off MSRP) and the men’s Ralph Lauren Lander.

Because we can’t help ourselves, we share a few more things that could look very cute on your Princess, the Ralph Lauren Madras Top (on sale at Saks for $20.99) and the Juicy Couture Sundress (remarkably free of logos, color us amazed), not on sale at Saks, priced at $98. (Ahem.)

Finally, the perfect gift for yourself, or someone else, the personalized Madras Postage Stamps at Neimans.

Neiman Marcus

They are pricey, $45 for twenty .49¢ stamps, but they are mighty cute as well.

We leave you with a mention of an upcoming ‘style standoff’ (double ahem) at flash sale site Gilt.com, Wednesday’s ‘Preppy vs. Edgy’ event.

"Preppy vs. Edgy" at Gilt.com

We bring it up only because there will be some bargains with a preppish slant, including needlepoint belts by Tucker Blair.

Gilt Groupe

(We also admit to thinking the timing is perfect, Wednesday is the Consort’s birthday (shhh) and he did have a few ‘edgy’ traits at one time, especially when he was riding his Harley.)

With that we say goodbye until Wednesday!

Clothes for the Club, Mad for Madras & the Preppy Pet’s Nautical Bed

Hello-Hello and happy Wednesday, this seems to have been a rather intense several days, we’re wondering how it could only be Wednesday?!

We begin with a look at a brand some readers may not be familiar with, Kitsuné.

Kitsuné

Originally started as a music label, the Parisian firm’s design aesthetic is one we appreciate.

Most are simple pieces that can meet a myriad of  needs.

The lines are classic, with little or no frou-frou.

This fall’s collection is called Ivy League; below a few samples via the always-on-top-of-things folks at High Snobette.

Here are two styles from the fall group we find rather fabulous.

A list of brick and mortar stores carrying the line is available here; the selection of shops where one might shop online is much broader.

And two very quick looks for your MOTH (Man of the House).

In today’s Bits & Bytes:

  • There is news that Jaeger is launching an offshoot of the brand aimed at a younger demo:

via BeautyConfessional.net

Targeted at a younger demo, Boutique by Jaeger launches this July and according to British Vogue, the new group will retail for 30% less than Jaeger’s standard collection. Below, two looks from the new collection.

  • The Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale runs from Wednesday, June 9 through Saturday, June 12 at the usual site, the Valley Forge Convention Center.  The fun starts at 5am on Wednesday.
  • ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    We share a couple of cute finds in our Mad for Madras category, we simply couldn’t resist the Madras Toddler shoes, despite their distressed (we think that is the proper use of the term) design, they are too cute.

    .

    Readers may also appreciate the Sperry Madras tennis shoes for Boy seen below left. (These are designed to be sans laces – gasp.)

    Above right we show the Polo Ralph Lauren Madras Sandals, also for Boys.

    The Girls PRL Sandals (L) are peaking the Cute-o-Meter in the red zone as far as we are concerned, as are the Avril Casuals by Morgan & Milo shown on the right.

    When it comes to madras for Mom, we were surprised to discover a brand with a logo larger than Mr. Lauren’s. Silly Princess.

    The giant rhino is courtesy of Marc Ecko, both pair are seen at Shoes.com.  But then, we’re still fixated on these from F-Troupe at Gargyle.

    Sigh.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    We close with what must be an adorable ensembles for the four-legged family members at your palace:

    Plaid and Hound

    By Puppia, the bright eyes at Plaid and Hound discovered the nautically inclined bed, and we simply had to share.

    With that we say g’bye until next time!

    Monday Musings, A Touch of Madras & Seersucker

    Hello and Happy Monday! Or is that an oxymoron?!

    We begin with something ever-so-fun in pink and green, TP’s favorite color scheme! It all started with this pretty box arriving in the mailbox.

    Beautiful Box

    As a rule, we are not prone to discussion of our personal wardrobe other than occasional generalizations regarding a retailer or designer, with an oblique mention of something being featured that we may own.  (What could be more tedious?) However, today we make an exception to share this:

    Our new nightie by Lilly Pulitzer comes compliments of the delightful Mindless Musings; we were partners in the Pajama Swap organized by The Landlocked Mermaid.  For those of us fond of bows and grosgrain ribbon, look at the trim on this treasure:

    The bows adorn each side of the hem, cute as can be. We send a giant ‘Thank You’ to Miss Mindless Musings, we love our Lilly, as it also has a high snuggle factor!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Speaking of public ‘Thank You’ sentiments, we simply have to send an appreciative greeting to the one and only Muffy Martini.  Muffy is doing her final Official Blog Birthday Giveaway, and here is what you can win:

    MuffyMartini.Blogspot.com

    MuffyMartini.Blogspot.com

    Muffy is giving away some Lilly Pulitzer goodies from our little shop, all of them in the Loco Patch pattern.  The Giveaway prize includes 9 items, from plates and napkins to matches and reuseable glasses, everything you need to host a summer soirée. We’ll stop nattering on about it so you can pop over and enter at Muffy’s blog!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    We have a few Sales & Savings reminders for those still working on wardrobe issues. The Land’s End specials end tonight at midnight; the company is offering 25% off swimwear and up to 40% off loads of other items. Shipping is complimentary with no mandatory expenditure.

    Also, eLuxury is taking an additional 40% Off all Sale items.  And Designs by Paige is offering some excellent deals, with several styles of their amazing needlepoint shoes on sale, including the Pink Flamingo Mule, as well as the Hot Pink Ultra Suede Ballet Flats.

     481_image

    Burberry continues their Friends and Family Sale with 30% markdowns on ‘select merchandise.’

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Since we are discussing pink and green, we must recommend a fun and fabulous site we stumbled into: Pink & Green Scene. Talk about Prepalicious – the site is just delightful, featuring a pink and Green item every day!

    Erin does an excellent job searching out things in our favorite preppy color combo; such a great job the blog is part of a big mention in a story about decorating blogs that ran in the Financial Times.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Those who follow us on Twitter may recall have already seen this, but we wanted to share a quick screengrab from SpreadTweet, the program that makes a Twitter screen look like a spreadsheet.

    Created to protect those Tweeting at the workplace (gasp!) from possible detection and discipline.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    We thought the changing seasons dictate a bit of seersucker and madras; we begin with the madras polo from a preppish stalwart, Fred Perry.

    Courtesy Fred Perry via HighSnobiety.com

    Courtesy Fred Perry via HighSnobiety.com

    However… this is more of a Madras Mistake than a “must have” item for yours truly.  The madras print (more of a faux madras IOHO) is actually applied to the fabric through a digital process. Our thanks to High Snobiety for the original tip on this, as well as a look at the 100th Anniversary Polo, seen below.

    We like this model much more! Our *only* concern about the classic polo look is the logo, which appears to be on steroids. Or is that just our imagination?

    Speaking of madras, how cute are the Polo Ralph Lauren shoes for little girls at Saks? The Gill Fisherman Sandals are sized for Infants, Toddlers and Girls.

    0401814233149r_180x2400401814233804r_180x240

    Springtime also has us thinking about seersucker here at the Prepatorium. We are simply gaga over the Florence Eiseman Infant shortall in seersucker with the matching tee.

    We also love the clean, classic lines of the E. Land Seersucker Dress at Saks in Toddler & Little Girl’s sizing.

    Frankly, it’s so sweet it qualifies as a Pretty in Pink for today. Also in the PIP group, one bright and beautiful car for the original Princess of Pink, Barbie.

    Created in honor of Barbie’s 50th Birthday, Fiat and Mattel collaborated on the one of a kind dream machine and unveiled it last month.

    We have a brief personal note today: Landlocked Mermaid lost her grandmother Friday and we wanted to let her know we are all thinking of her and keeping her in our prayers as we send her a big cyberhug.

    With this we say G’bye until tomorrow!

    Betseyville Baylee

    6p6627-641123

    Another strong point for the Baylee, its fiscally friendly price, $62 at Shoes.com.  There are many other pair from Betseyville with a similar look, all with the nautical little button. These are the Brinda Sandals in pink patent.

    And on the right in always classic black & white patent, the Blair sandals from Betseyville.

    A Princess post on flats couldn’t possibly be complete without at least one pair from Bettye Mueller, like these Madras Frame flats, now almost 50% less than their original price at Endless.com

    We’re a little late to the party with this, but Bobbi Brown has an incredible offer on the website right now:
