Friday Fun: Calypso St. Barth for Targét, Prep World Under Construction

Hello-Hello, and happy Friday!

It has been quite awhile since we did a proper Friday Fun post, we think we’re overdue for some lighthearted frivolity and hope you agree.

We begin with a quick glance at the new Trina Turk collection for Schumacher, purveyor of fine fabrics and wall coverings to the design trade.

The collection is just now launching and we love the bright, vibrant prints.

It’s no secret here at The Prepatorium we are fond of Ms. Turk’s work, the beauty of these new textiles is that they are all suited for both indoor and outdoor use.

As with most of her creations, the designer’s bold geometric prints make a strong statement.

The Consort very much appreciates the blue palette, it is his favorite color scheme.

The heavily saturated colors create a lush feel, the blue and teal and green shriek poolside cocktail party.

Other motifs are done in warmer hues.

The color palette for another new collection nicely complements the hues seen above, we have an early look at the upcoming Calypso St. Barth line for Le Boutique Targét.

The company’s reputation for bright, bohemian designs is evident throughout the group; accessories also showcase tie-dye motifs in rich tones.

Calypso St. Barth for Target

Here is more info from the Target snooze news release: “Calypso St. Barth for Target brings destination-chic style to apparel and accessories for women, girls and babies, as well as an assortment of home furnishings. Ranging in price from $1.99 to $79.99, the Calypso St. Barth for Target collection is available May 1 through June 11 at all Target stores.”

Many readers will welcome news that with this collection the company plans to offer both petite and plus-sizes online.

A few more very quick hits, our first comes via the amazingly talented Pink Martini and Pearls, she recently shared pieces from Janna Conner Designs, a jewelry line we hadn’t heard about previously.

When visiting the Pink Martini you may want to stay a few moments to gaze upon some of her edible creations.

Also on our hit parade, the new Vera Wang Barbie was released yesterday.

The ‘doll’ is priced at $159.95; at the risk of sounding more out of step than usual, are these made for little girls to actually “play” with? Or are they created primarily for people to collect and re-sell?

We must admit however, the detailing is exquisite.

Next, an early look at the first “Prep World” pop-up shop under construction in Paris.

In addition to apparel, the merchandise will include lifestyle items like croquet sets and backgammon boards.

The Paris shop opens next week, on the 21st.

A final note on an event that is sure to be fun.

This year’s warehouse sale is June 9-11 at the same spot, the Valley Forge Convention Center in KOP (King of Prussia). Mark your calendars if planning to take advantage of the bargains.

With that, happy weekend to all!

Lilly Pulitzer Fall 2011 Agendas, Talbots, Kate Spade & Prep World Updates

Hello-Hello, welcome to The Prepatorium, we are happy to see a bright new week!

Today we bring you dribs, drabs and tidbits of info, the post may read more like a headline service than anything else.

We begin with a look at Talbots styles for fall, loath as we are to even contemplate that season.  WWD (Women’s Wear Daily, subscription req’d.) has an early peek at some of the styles.

Kyle Ericksen/WWD

The deep teal seen above is pretty, but our favorite part of the WWD story may be this quote:

““The silhouette is definitely more important. Everything is more refined and dressed up,” said Michael Smaldone, chief creative officer…”

Amen and hallelujah to that sentiment, may it only prove true.  The pinstripes are also attractive.

Kyle Ericksen/WWD

As always, we aren’t crazy about every single piece, those shown below generate absolutely no sense of anticipatory excitement. The drape on the pants shown on the right is hideous.

Kyel Ericksen/WWD

However, it is likely that come August yours truly will be coveting this coat.

As we are on the topic of next season’s clothing, Kate Spade fans might enjoy Fashionista’s sneak peek at the fall ad campaign being shot in Soho last week.

Once again Bryce Dallas Howard is featured, we are more-than-intrigued by that polka dot suit.

One might think this next item would go in our “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up” files, but sadly it isn’t shocking, merely a sad commentary.

Manhattan mom sues $19K/yr. preschool for damaging 4-year-old daughter’s Ivy League chances

The headline is from a story in The Daily News, here is more:
“She’s demanding a refund of the $19,000 tuition and class-action status for other toddlers who weren’t properly prepped for the standardized test that can mean the difference between Dalton and – gasp! – public school.”

Oh, the horror.

Several other items of note that may hold interest for some:

  • Our friend over at The Preppycrat is back to posting again and has a nice look at the Painted Pink Pony shop in a recent post
  • Prep World, the Lisa Birnbach/Tommy Hilfiger collaboration (detailed in this post) has announced the opening date for its New York pop-up shop: May 19. If not in the city, shoppers will find most of the collection available in Hilfiger stores and online starting then. We like seeing our friend Kiel’s bracelets showcased in the collection.

  • One item you may have missed. (That is liberal use of the word “missed”.) Behold, the Royal Wedding Donut.

Eater puts it well:

“Because nothing says royal matrimony like a heart-shaped donut filled with jelly and topped with vanilla icing and a chocolate drizzle.”

We leave you with two quick items, both slightly more upscale than the donut.

Tiffany Blue® Bow Mug

Tiffany is now offering “Blue Bow” items, and while not a fan of the company’s logo-ridden pieces, the Mug somehow seems cute and whimsical, sure to brighten one’s morning.

The other item is a sneak peek at this August’s Agendas from our Lilly Pulitzer Stationery line.

Fall 2011 Agendas

This year there will be four Agenda patterns, making it even more difficult to choose just one.

Until next time, thank you so very much for coming to visit!
