Lilly’s Greek Chic Coming for Phone Cases & More

Hello-Hello, it is a wonderful new week here at the Prepatorium.

For almost two years now we have been asked “Why aren’t there phone cases in the Lilly Pulitzer Greek prints?”

Lilly Pulitzer Greek Collection

Today we can share the splendid news that there will be just such an item coming this summer.

First, a bit of background on the Lilly Pulitzer Sorority Collection, the company created its initial group of Greek-licensed prints in 2010, shown below.

Delta Zeta, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma were the first to have  patterns designed for them.

In 2011 Lilly took voting online, running a ‘Greek Chic’ contest to select those sororities that would be receiving their very own prints. More than 315,000 votes were cast, winners were announced by Janie Schoenborn, Fashion Director at Lilly Pulitzer. (You can watch the announcement on You Tube.

Those being added to the Sorority Sisterhood included Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Gamma, Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta.

A similar promotion was run to select the sororities receiving prints in 2012, results were again announced on Facebook and You Tube. Janie was joined by sisters from the Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter at Rollins College for the big announcement.

This time there were more than 1,000,000 votes and five more sororities were selected to have a print designed for them. Those in the Lilly Print Class for 2012 are: Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Kappa.

All items in the sorority collection include the Original Tote, Makeup Bag & ID Wristlet, and the wildly popular Murfee Scarves. We show them below in the Tri Delt print, a certain TQM was a founding member of the chapter at a great Midwestern University.

So now the news on what is coming in sorority prints this summer: there will be authentic Lilly sorority iPhone covers (like these), Cold Drink Eco-Tumblers (like these), and Dry-Erase boards (like these).

PreppyPrincess.com

We’re told these will be available in 14 of the sorority prints, and items should be shipping to us the same time as the Lilly 2012-2013 Agendas, that sounds like the makings of a perfect back-to-school package to me!

We will be taking pre-orders for the collection at the same time we start our Agenda pre-ordering. Because we are sensitive to the pocketbook challenges encountered in school, The Preppy Princess will offer a special volume discount for any orders with 6 or more of the same item.  And our $2 shipping for all orders over $75 will be in effect as well, hopefully this will make things a little more manageable for everyone.

We’ll let you know when we know more, and will share pictures as soon as we have them.

Until next time, may your afternoon be as sunny as ours.

Le Boutique Targét’s Newest Designer, Plus: Those Lilly Pulitzer Sorority Prints

Hello-Hello and happy Monday!

We’ve loads of little tidbits to share, so we’ll dive right in with news of Target‘s next designer collaboration: the cheap chic retailer is partnering with Jason Wu.  Below we show four of the designer’s RTW (ready to wear) styles for spring/summer 2012, shown at Fashion Week just a few weeks ago.

While all of the looks we show above are clearly party frocks of a serious nature, scaled-down versions for spring prom and wedding season could hold some appeal.  Many will remember Mr. Wu’s rise to prominence when Michelle Obama selected one of his designs for the Inaugural balls.

Women’s Wear Daily broke the news about the joint endeavor today, here are some of Mr. Wu’s thoughts:

“The exciting thing about this limited edition collection of affordable women’s wear and accessories is that it allows me to reach a wider audience and bring my designs to people who may not have been able to purchase them before,” said Wu. “My collection for Target is chic and wearable. I think women everywhere will enjoy it.”

Below, more casual styles.

It’s no secret yours truly is a fan of the designer’s work, although not to the same degree we go all frothy enjoy Oscar de la Renta or Kate Spade’s creations. One of the primary reasons we are fond of Mr. Wu, his line is manufactured almost entirely in the USA, right in New York City, that is *very* difficult to do indeed.

The collection will include apparel and handbags, arriving in store and online February 5 of next year with prices ranging from $19.99 to $59.99. (A reminder about the styles shown above, these are runway looks, *not* styles from the upcoming collaboration.) To see Mr. Wu’s video announcing the line, click here.

One other Lillified update, we are rapidly approaching a very big celebration honoring Lilly with an 80th birthday party!

The good folks at the Lifestyle of Lifestyle and Fashion History is hosting the gala event, tickets for a “Preppy American Brunch” are now available for purchase online at the Museum’s website, where you can also learn more about the upcoming party.

For those unfamiliar with the Museum, it is located in Boynton Beach, Florida and open 12 months a year. It has hosted exhibits on everything from Teddy Bears to Handbags, as well as a special retrospective on Lilly Pulitzer. (If the Museum and/or a Lilly exhibit sounds familiar, we previously blogged about both here.)

That’s it for today, we’ll be back again tomorrow!
