It’s Springtime at The Princess!

Hello-Hello, welcome to another day of fun and frivolity here at The Prepatorium.

In the interest of lifting spirits just a tad we are going to look at springtime goodies today, avoiding coverage of London Fashion Week in favor of something more crassly commercial entertaining.

Everyone knows we go a little gaga for things with a nautical theme; you can imagine our reaction when first seeing this Giant Whale Eraser from our spring Jonathan Adler collection.

The erasers come in four patterns ($9.50), they *all* make a fabulous style statement on your desk.

There are other Adler treasures using that cute whale design, including Sticky Notes ($8.50).

The Binder Clips Set ($9.50) also incorporates the whale design.

We are just tickled to see nautically-inclined items in our spring Lilly Pulitzer Stationery & Gifts collection, like the stickers that are in this year’s Stickers and Labels Set ($9.50).

More Lilly items carrying the nautical theme, one of the new Note Cube ($15.50 ) designs, as well as the Hit Me! Playing Cards ($17.50).

The new Note Cubes come with a Lilly pen, and have 600 sheets printed with snappy designs. The “You’re Flagged” pattern is also seen on the spring Market Bags ($9.50) and the new iPhone 3G/4G cases. (The iPhone cases are mostly in, the Touch cases won’t arrive until April.)

Back to Jonathan Adler, another new item this spring is really for the pet(s) in residence at your Palace.

Colorful collars and leads are done with durable canvas and grosgrain ribbon, and while we love our custom leads and collars, these are a bright, vibrant alternative.

The Collars and Leashes run from $14.50 to $17.50, we will have them in stock in April. Another item expected from Mr. Adler in April:

iPhone 3G/4G Covers in the Chevron, Plume and Links patterns.

The Consort has used an Adler case on his iPhone for months, he likes it so much now he wants an Adler iPad Cover ($29.50).

Of course, yours truly also wants to try out the new Lilly Pulitzer iPad Covers due here in April. Just when we are getting him adjusted to our monogramed iPad cover! (We’ll share that in a moment.)

Another new addition here at The Princess, Baby Prep, with über-snuggly baby blankets ($24) bordered in argyle and sailboats.

There are insulated Bottle Bags ($10) in oh-so-preppy madras and argyle prints.

The Burp Cloth Sets are darling ($12 for a four-pack), as are the Washcloth Sets ($12 for a pack of five).

We have enjoyed such a strong reaction to our Tiny Prep line for your Young Misses and Masters, it seemed only appropriate we offer goods for newborns and infants!

Finally today, we show off share some of our nifty new iPad cases by Lovie & Dodge.

With apologies for our less-than-stellar photos, here are bigger images.

These are now shipping to customers, and soon we will have personalized sleeves for laptops.

The sleeves will be available for 13″ and 15″ laptops, both these and the iPad cases make ideal graduation gifts.

That is a fraction of the new goods arriving daily, we hope there is something that tickles your fancy!

Say Goodbye to Talbot’s Red Doors & Kitsuné’s Ivy League

Hello and happy top-o-the-week. We hope everyone enjoyed some relaxation and recuperation this weekend.

Here at the Prepatorium things seem to be spinning completely out of control are a tad busy, the photo below probably better illustrates the situation.

PP Intergalactic HQ

That is merely a portion of the Lilly Pulitzer and Jonathan Adler iPhone covers we are shipping out today. Thank heaven for the Consort the minions, even with the drawbridge malfunctioning, they managed to make it over the moat and into the dungeon office today.  (Heh, heh, heh.)

We begin with news about Talbots, via this story in Women’s Wear Daily.

“Those signature red doors at Talbots are coming off their hinges.”

We were intrigued by the statement; it comes from Trudy F. Sullivan, the company’s president and CEO.  Her reasoning?

““They’ve become a bit of a hindrance for attracting new customers. They see the red door — they think it’s their grandmother’s store,”

That is the top to David Moin’s story updating the retailer’s progress.  Talbots may want to consider updating their investor relations page, with the reference to its “…welcoming red doors.”

The Talbots Inc.

For those attuned to the firm’s Sales & Clearance schedule, a change may already have been noticed:

“… the two big annual clearances were dropped in favor of taking less dramatic markdowns monthly to keep inventories cleaner and to sustain a steadier flow of merchandise.”

Below, this month’s catalog showing two new styles for fall.

Frequent readers may recall previous blather discussion about changes in direction for Talbots, we liked many of the new styles and fabrics and applauded the move to use Linda Evangelista for this fall’s advertising campaign. This look? A bit intense for our taste, likely to draw attention to the model, not the apparel.

The philosophy behind the strategic moves makes sense, more from the WWD story:

““Don’t you think most significant brands go through moments of profound change?” Sullivan suggested. “Look at Coach. Look at Burberry. Look at Ralph [Lauren]. This is Talbots’ moment of profound change. We are not reinventing Talbots. We are trying to reconnect to the DNA.”

Here are two more images featuring Ms. Evangelista, better showcasing the clothes.

Below, a look at pieces from Talbots’ Holiday line.

(We’ll just might need a pair of those peachy-pink ballet flats.)

While we presume the marketing department had loads of research done to determine how people feel about those red doors, and the data may well show they are a challenge for the retailer’s desired demographic, we wonder if the baby needs to go out with the bathwater….?

Next, we share a look at pieces from the soon-to-debut “Ivy League” collection by Kitsuné.

Some may recall our brief feature on the company’s “Golf Club” collection; we also shared a few looks from this line.

For those wondering about the company’s name, it is actually the Japanese word for fox.

Many of the men’s styles are also appealing.

Lots to like with this collection, IOHO.

Polo Ralph Lauren Wants Your Children, & “True Prep” at the Princess

Hello-Hello on a bright and beautiful Thursday afternoon in The Great Midwest.

We begin with a sneak peek at the latest online marketing plan from Polo Ralph Lauren. If visiting the Childrens pages at PRL this is what one currently sees online.

Polo Ralph Lauren

Later this month an interactive storybook will be online.

Polo Ralph Lauren via WWD.com

“The RL Gang” is targeted at youngsters, according to this story in today’s Women’s Wear Daily:

“The storybook, which is launching in an exclusive partnership with Bloomingdale’s, targets children ages two and eight with looks from the collection that shoppers can click on and purchase through ralphlauren.com and bloomingdales.com.”

Below, Katherine and Oliver from the “Gang”.

The ‘shoppable book’ is slated to launch August 18th on the Polo Ralph Lauren website. Somehow the notion of marketing to two-year-olds doesn’t sit well here in the corner condo, but perhaps that is merely symptomatic of our fuddy-duddyness….?

We stay with the children’s theme, moving on to some over-the-top playhouses for the Little Master and Mini-Mistress of the house. Below, we show the Nantucket Beach Cottage (disregard that hideous child-sized vehicle in the foreground).

Whittle/Splash News

Here is an interior of the little cottage, with apologies for the fisheye lens that was used to better show the decor.

H. Lorren Au Jr./OC Register

We like the American Craftsmen playhouse.

Whittle/Splash News

Now, lest we all get our whiskers in a wad about such conspicuous consumption, this is not simply another on the list of “Ridiculous Gifts for the Over Indulged Child,” it is merely part of a good cause, the 19th annual Project Playhouse auction.  The event raises funds to help to build housing for the homeless, in past auctions some of the pint-sized palaces have brought as much as $20,000.

For more details and loads of pictures, pop over and visit our friends at the Register.

We’re long overdue for some Adventures in Argyle and Mad for Plaid updates, we begin with the latter. Le Boutique Targét offers the Men’s Madras cap (it may well be cuter on girls), now only $5.25.  Also fun, the women’s Plaid Rain Boots.

In a brighter palette, a darling Plaid ensemble for infant girls, or this Plaid Shirt for toddler boys at Kohl’s, both by Chaps.

For those seeking more practical items, Kohl’s offers Knee-high Argyle socks.

Old Navy offers polo shirts in a modern argyle motif in a variety of bright colors.

We have also seen some gorgeous argyle fall sweaters, not to mention other goodies, perhaps we should consider an entire post dedicated to that design.

Two small business matters to quickly mention (with regrets to those disinterested in such tedium), the first involving our insanely popular Lilly Pulitzer iPhone covers.

We have an update on shipping dates for the cases: we expect to receive them here around August 13th or 14th, and will start shipping them out immediately.

Our other little note concerns a small announcement from Princess InterPlanetary HQ.

Random House

Yes, that is “True Prep: It’s a Whole New Old World,” something of a follow-up to “The Original Preppy Handbook”.  The news? After much angst and discussion we have decided that we shall offer the book at The Princess! The book will be released September 7, with a retail price of $19.95. However, we will be taking pre-orders for the book starting Monday (the 9th) at a substantially lower price. After all, what are friends for?

Until next time, we hope your skies are sunny!
