Ralph Lauren Returns to Greenwich & Who the New Moon Stars Wore To The Premiere

Hello-Hello & Happy Friday, whoo-hoo!

In the interest of Friday Fun, we will do a lot of photos today, leaning toward what the younger generation calls ‘eye candy’.

We begin with a topic that is off-the-charts in popularity:

Last night many stars from New Moon attended a special screening in the city, including actress Kristin Stewart.

Ms. Stewart was in a Burberry trench over a Valentino dress. Co-star Robert Pattinson sported Dolce & Gabbana.

Taylor Lautner was also in Dolce & Gabbana, a good choice as D&G sponsored the event.

The film’s stars have been everywhere this week, keeping the morning shows busy.

And making promotional appearances, as Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed did at the Toys ‘r Us in town, talking up the line of toys tied to the movie.

Last night’s screening was definitely a must for many on the social circuit, including Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick. (Can we say smoldering here?)

Others from the show were on hand, Taylor Momsen was seen in more clothing and less makeup than usual.

Also on the hit parade here at the prepatorium, a return to Greenwich for Ralph Lauren, after an absence of more than ten years. The new Polo Ralph Lauren store opens today.

The new emporium is right on Greenwich Avenue; today’s WWD story has more:

“… no expense appears to have been spared, even in this economy. From marble to moldings, lacquer and custom wallpaper, Lauren, who has a home in nearby Bedford, N.Y., was keen to bring his brand of luxury to the area.”

Apparel and accessories are on the first floor with the Home Store on the second level.

More from Marc Karimzadeh’s story:

“The men’s area can be accessed through a separate entrance and has an equestrian feel, with such features as a beamed ceiling and carriage lanterns. The line focuses on a more casual assortment.”

The store has a posh, lush look.

The town fathers must be pleased, Greenwich Avenue had been looking a bit bleak. Now it will be jumping, tomorrow Apple is opening their new store just a few doors down.  It is definitely a plus for all involved, the retailer, the community and the consumer.

We close with a farewell to Uga VII, the much-loved mascot for the Georgia Bulldogs. Here he is at the Georgia-Florida game on October 31, 2009.

Uga VII died yesterday morning of a heart attack. He was only four years old and will be buried in a private ceremony at Sanford Stadium tomorrow.

He just replaced Uga VI about 14 months ago, a very short tenure as the team’s mascot.  The word is there won’t be any Uga for tomorrow’s game at Sanford Stadium. However, early reports indicating there would not be an Uga VIII appear to be incorrect.

For a whole slew of fun photos of this Uga, click here. For an outstanding  article on a Bulldog Rescue chapter, click here.

Goodybye Uga, from Silly Tilly (our little Bulldog Rescue girl) and all of us here at the Prepatorium.

End Your Year With A Freebie & It’s Open Season On The Princess Consort

Hello again, my friends.  My lovely and talented spouse, known to you all as The Preppy Princess, is on a shopping binge not seen since Imelda Marcos discovered Payless Shoes.  While she leaves a trail of exhausted and over-stressed sales associates I will step to the microphone and entertain you with some mindless drivel.  Which we all could use these days.

We’ll begin today with our final give-away for 2008.  Of course, as your parents have told you, nothing in life is free.  However, most things are, with good accounting, tax deductible.  But I digress.  To my point: The Princess is offering up a wonderful tote from our favorite website to the lucky winner this week. It’s tasteful, understated and just what you need to haul your holiday goodies.

You Could Win Kate's Tote in Ocean Blue

Entering this week’s random drawing couldn’t be easier.  Just leave a comment asking The Consort a question.  Ask me anything.  Having relationship issues?  Go ahead and bare your soul.  I may not look like Oprah and I’m sure not Dr. Phil but I’ll give you my $.02 worth.  Trouble with a stopped up kitchen drain?  Can’t decide which shoes to wear to that office holiday party?  Go ahead and ask anything.  The answer you receive might surprise you.   It will certainly, I hope, entertain you.  Fire at will, friends.  This is your chance to probe into the kind of mind that wonders why people do things like this to family pets.

There are some things that are just not meant to be.  Like cats riding roombas.  Or English Bulldogs swimming.

As you may or may not know TPP and I are proud owners of Tilly, our own English Bulldog.  Tilly is a rescue dog who comes from a horrific background.  She was battered, abandoned and starved.  But her spirit is unbroken and her capacity to love unconditionally is remarkable.  Please permit me to ask you one favor today.  If you are thinking of bringing a new pet into your family circle consider a rescue animal.  It is not difficult to find rescue/adoption programs for full-breed dogs.  You will be taking on an animal with a history.  It’s not always pretty and it may not be easy.  But the rewards are unlike anything you’ve probably ever experienced.

Excuse me while I step down from the soapbox.  Thank you, that’s better.  Enough for tonight.  Remember, ask the Princess Consort any question and you’re entered to win a great tote.  It’s safe, non-fattening and fun for the whole family.  Now sit back, relax and enjoy the musical stylings of  “? and the Mysterians” with their hit song “96 Tears”.

7 Wacky Things, The Christie’s Goyard Auction

Hello-Hello on a splendid afternoon in The Great Midwest!

Because The Princess was tagged by the Call the Preppies In, you will now be subjected to 7 random facts!

1) Although selected for the Cheerleading squad in high school TP declined because she figure skated 3-6 hours a day.

2) Our previous dog was a Giant Schnauzer.  Above, this year’s Crufts Best in Show winner, Philippe, a Giant Schnauzer.  Below, our boy Phred; we had him thirteen years. Our current canine is Tilly, a rescued Bulldog, one photo below Phred’s.

3) My first media job was as a radio host while in college; in my last position I was the General Manager of a CBS affiliate.

4) Despite all evidence to the contrary, we really do know how to cook. Kind of.

5) The Palace is about to be swallowed whole by the paper blob, because we read all the time. All. the. time. The list of periodicals we subscribe to is obscene, not to mention the pile of books from the local library.

6) Speaking of….TP has worked on numerous campaigns (issues only, never candidates) including the last two local millage requests for libraries.

7) Fairly early in the television career I was producing a live television special. Shortly after breaking into programming, the primary talent took off his microphone and walked away saying, “I’m out of words.” What followed was not pretty.

We tag Bec’s Bohemia, the Landlocked Mermaid, Mom x 2, Fashion Addict, and Fashion Herald.

This afternoon we once again find ourselves wishing the Concorde were still flitting across the pond, Heathrow to JFK or Dulles, and then back again to Heathrow, or maybe de Gaulle depending upon one’s plans. That way only 3-1/2 hours or so of one’s life were lost to travel time…well, a little more because of customs and whatnot, but nothing like today’s travel trauma.

That would make the upcoming auction of Goyard bags and luggage at Christie’s Paris almost manageable. Almost being the operative word, but still…

This will be the 3rd Annual Auction benefitting cancer research efforts at the Curie Institut in Paris. 21 women from the fashion, sports and movie worlds were asked to customize an item from the Goyard collection.

Vahina Giocante design for Goyard auction

The notables participating include Elodie Bouchez, Cécile Cassel, Catherine Deneuve, Zoé Felix, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vahina Giocante, Chiara Mastroianni, Helena Noguerra, Linh-Dan Pham, Barbara Schulz, Audrey Tautou and Elsa Zylberstein. Bags will be on exhibit at Goyard on St Honoré.  Sigh. (The bag seen below is from a previous auction.)
