Ann Taylor Spring, Dior Couture, That Kate Middleton Nail Polish

Hello-Hello, welcome to a new week! There is just all manner of fun and frolicking to deal with, unfortunately we have to make this one of those goofy Mon-uesday posts, we are crazy busy.

We can’t say that spring has sprung (for it most assuredly has not), but at least we can gaze upon more images of spring clothing and accessories.  We begin with these photos of the spring/summer Ann Taylor line via Women’s Wear Daily.

The colors are bright.

From David Moin’s review of the collection in WWD:

“Another surprising combination features a very feminine embroidered pencil skirt paired with a long silk tunic top. Ann Taylor also showed a black jumpsuit that seemed a little daring for the collection, though Axelson noted it would be sold only in urban locations.”

Next, Gap has also released images of its spring campaign.

The emphasis remains on basic pieces.

Frequent readers won’t be surprised to hear us say that we won’t shed any tears if some of the ruffles and daytime sequins disappear. (Cratchety old lady.) The retailer continues to show strength in denim.

Gap

Because the Brooks Brothers spring/summer collections offer such promise for the tiny preps at your palace, we have a few more photos from that group.

Brooks Brothers

We couldn’t resist sharing some of these with Nautical by Nature, as there is definitely a seagoing influence seen in many of the pieces.

The anchor motif is also present in the young men’s spring collection.

We like these.

Because we do make rather pathetic efforts at staying on top of certain royal wedding goings-on, a few updates:

“Kate Middleton has quit her job at her parents’ online party supplies business to throw herself full time into planning her wedding.”

  • And then there is today’s You Can’t Make This Stuff Up entrant, the “No More Waity Katie” nail polish from Butter London.

Indeed.

Once again it is time for the Paris Couture shows and their accompanying eye candy; John Galliano lit things up today at Dior with a number of ‘red hot’ styles.

There were also cotton candy colors.

As always with the House of Dior, textiles and details were extraordinary.

The silhouettes were simply stunning, many reminiscent of Dior’s “New Look” from the 1940s, perfect for Betty Draper’s first season of Mad Men.

Sigh.

Recognizing and respecting this may be a mournful Monday for some football fans we move to our final topic, an issue without any partisan baggage. It started with a Facebook conversation started by a dear friend.

Ensuing comments included the following exchanges:

Naturally this followed:

It all leaves us with a question for our friends speaking Texan and other dialects: what phrases would you include for translation in this version of Rosetta Stone?

With a giggle, we say g’bye until next time!

Brooks Brothers Spring Preview

Hello, happy Wednesday!

Just when we needed a little bright and sunny pick-me-up, we fell upon this at Brooks Brothers (in a cyber manner of speaking):

Brooks Brothers

The company’s Spring Preview is now online.

Brooks Brothers

Men’s designs are also shown.

Brooks Brothers

Many looks were shown in our ‘sneak peek’ at the line back in September, for that post, click here.  A few more men’s styles.

Brooks Brothers

Here are more photos from that September post.

We were particularly intrigued by the heavy nautical influence seen throughout the collection.

The seafaring motif is also evident in the children’s styles.

We like many pieces already shown in this year’s Resort Collection, including the Girl’s Striped Sailor Dress and the Boy’s Embroidered Swim Trunks, both items available now.

One quick aside, like so many other shops, Brooks is doing its semi-annual clearance (including goods for the Young Man & Miss at your palace) and there are some amazing savings, especially on Black Fleece.

In other news (ahem, there’s a loose interpretation of that word), yet another update on one of our original Anti-Preps. It seems that the Kardashians have a rather large clothing line launching at Sears.  More from Women’s Wear Daily:

“The seemingly ubiquitous reality television sisters, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe, are set to unveil merchandise on a bigger retail stage when the Kardashian Kollection launches exclusively at 400 Sears doors in August…”

“The Kardashian Kollection is the latest in a Kardashian fashion and beauty empire that started with the Kardashians by Bebe line, which finishes with resort 2011. Among other things, Kim and mother Kris Jenner are spokeswomen for Skechers’ Shape-ups; the sisters front an apparel line sold on QVC called K-Dash; Kim Kardashian has a namesake perfume and is the face of FusionBeauty’s lip plumpers…”

We giggled when reading a friend’s comment on the upcoming launch: “They are Paris Hilton with boobs.”  Ms. Hilton is yet another of our original Anti-Preps.

We have a couple of quick links for Lilly lovers to enjoy, the first is a story in Lonny magazine’s latest issue, “Pulitzer Prize“.

Lonny Magazine

The story focuses on just how the design team comes up with all of the different patterns and pieces for the multiple collections and pieces. Fashion Director Janie Schoenborn is featured, as are many others, and it is a delightful read.

Lonny Magazine

The second link is to a piece in The Daily Basics on the Lilly spring line of home goods at Garnet Hill, with loads of fodder for our Pretty in Pink and Green list!

Our final photo symbolizes our sympathy for all of our friends coping with the insane amounts of snow, some of it in the strangest of places.

The Mittens Charm may be found at Tiffany.

Fashion Week: Brooks Brothers

Hello-Hello!

Welcome to another wacky day here at the Prepatorium, it is one-topic Tuesday, we have a look at Brooks Brothers for spring, along with some changes for this season. Below, some of next spring’s nautically influenced styles.

PHOTOS: Robert Mitra/WWD

Like many other firms, Brooks does not do a runway presentation during Fashion Week, instead opting for a static presentation.

Robert Mitra/WWD

Readers may recall Brooks’ recent ventures into new venues, including collaborative partnerships with outside entities, like Levi’s (more in this post), and the Social Primer Bow Tie collection (click here for more on this endeavor), steps into new venues with items like the Mad Men suit (more here), as well as continued expansion of the Black Fleece label, with the opening of standalone Black Fleece stores on both coasts.

Brooks Brothers

Women’s Wear Daily reports that online Black Fleece operations will soon be separated from the Brooks Brothers website; the launch of BlackFleece.com is expected some time in October.  More from the spring 2011 collection, we believe the following looks are Black Fleece styles by Thom Browne.

PHOTO: Robert Mitra/WWD

A few Black Fleece items we thought looked lovely, in the photo on the left we adore the dress with its darling bow at the neckline, and the blouse/skirt combination in the photo on the right (we’re presuming the top isn’t as sheer as it looks).

The black and tan group is particularly striking, although it is unlikely the men’s styles will make an appearance here in the Corner Condo; a little ‘too-too’ for The Consort.

Another group.

And one more group from what we believe are Black Fleece pieces.

Some accessories that are very Thom Browne, his signature stripes lead us in that direction.

We move on to another specialty line, the recently announced collection to be marketed under the ‘St. Andrews Links Exclusively for Brooks Brothers’ label.

Brooks announced the partnership back in March, this is the first opportunity we have had to see any of the pieces from the new group. The long-term St. Andrews agreement names Brooks Brothers as a worldwide partner, and looking at the rather sparse offerings in the Country Club offerings online, we have put in an inquiry to see if the St. Andrews merchandise will replace the Country Club collection.

Back to spring styles in regular (non golf or Black Fleece) merchandise; we like the primary colors.

Not to mention the madras….

While not fond of the logoed sweatshirt, we do like the apparel in the next two images, as well as the code flags suitcase.

The suitcase bears a striking resemblance to one of our Preppy Pillows, the Regatta model.

PreppyPrincess.com

More nautical flair.

Classic Brooks Brothers styling was evident throughout the presentation.

As well as updated style for the new children’s Fleece line.

This may be the most promising seasonal preview we recall seeing for quite some time.  Jean Palmierei’s story in WWD also noted the addition of three new Black Fleece fragrances, slated for a November launch.

“…there will be three separate bottles, called Red, White and Blue, which are signature colors of the collection.”

Robert Mitra/WWD

We are back tomorrow, with more grins and giggles!
