Two New Designers for Target, More Sales & Savings

Hello-Hello, and Happy Tuesday!

It is more than a little frenzied here in the Corner Condo at Princess InterGalactic HQ, so we jump right in today, there is big news about Le Boutique Targèt.  Our favorite reasonably-priced store (discount store just sounds so…so dreary, don’t you think?) has announced two new designer collaborations: the next limited-edition designer for a GO International® capsule collection will be Zac Posen, and a longer-term, larger partnership with Liberty of London.

The Zac Posen for Target collection will be available in stores and online April 25th of next year through May 30th.  Mr. Posen’s line for Target is in addition to his new lower-priced line, Z Spoke, this collection will be sold exclusively at Saks. Below, a few looks from that group, part of this Women’s Wear Daily story:

The story by Jessica Iredale continues:

“Z Spoke comes at a time when the market has shifted and many of Posen’s fellow young designers — Doo-Ri Chung, Thakoon Panichgul and Richard Chai among them — have recently launched lower-priced collections. … Posen’s new line will sit on Saks’ fourth floor… alongside Tory Burch, Elie Tahari, M Missoni and Ralph Lauren Blue Label.”

Two more Z Spoke looks for Saks:

Price points for the Z Spoke pieces will start at $78 for a cotton tee. BTW, all Z Spoke photos are by Kyle Ericksen at WWD.

Prices for Mr. Posen’s Target collection haven’t yet been announced, but prices for other GO International lines have been roughly between $14.99 – $149.99.  While not crazy about most of the Zac Posen Z Spoke pieces seen above, we are excited about his Target line.

And then there is the even bigger news about the Boutique and Liberty of London partnering up, bigger in part because it will include not only Women’s, Men’s, & Children’s apparel and a Home Collection, but also because of the Liberty heritage.

The luxury retailer is best known for colorful prints but also creates many other products, including their own lines of leather goods, home goods like towels and bath items, and more.

Today’s WWD story has more on the partnership.

“Target did not discuss specifics of the home collection. However, products could be similar to the pillows, cosmetics bags, lamp shades and notebooks in iconic prints found on the Liberty site. Timed to coincide with the spring season, Liberty of London for Target also will feature storage and organization and garden products.”

Below, a few of Liberty’s cosmetic bags.

Liberty has a history of successful partnerships across a broad and diverse spectrum, one of their current collections is with Ronnie Wood.

The company’s CEO understands that not everyone is familiar with Target, especially on the far side of the pond; here is more from the story:

“Despite the exposure, collaborating with Target wasn’t an easy decision for Liberty to make. “People outside the U.S. don’t really know how big Target is and what it means,” de la Bourdonnaye said. …and I had to explain to our shareholders just how important this collaboration could be.”

Perhaps they will create some cute melamine pieces like these currently on the retailer’s website.

But we’ll also settle for a scarf or two in the collection!

Here is one of the cotton scarves from the Hermès group:

A bit busy for us, but definitely today’s Pretty in Pink (and Green)!

Adventures in Argyle, Preppy Sales and Savings

Hello-Hello, greetings for another week!

We have several Sales and Savings to report today; some may be repetitious but we thought they bore a second run, beginning with Brooks Brothers.

1115_11.15.main41115_11.15.main2

Brooks has taken significant markdowns on many items, including several pieces that definitely qualify as Adventures in Argyle.

The Merino Argyle Cardigan is now $117.60 ($168), and on the right we have the Cashmere Argyle cardigan, now $208.60 (originally $298).  Both seemed to be available in almost all sizes as of this writing.

The Country Club Mini-Argyle crew sock is now $16 (originally $40) and the Cotton Argyle Anklet now $6 ($15); both are offered in a variety of colorways.

As The Consort has been heard to say: “You can’t go wrong with a good pair of socks from Brooks Brothers.”

Not on sale at Brooks, but definitely worthy of a mention, the St. Jude Collection, including the Brooksie ™ Bear.

The retailer is donating $5 from the sale of each bear to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. There are several other items in this collection at Brooks Brothers, all with a portion of sales going to the hospital and research center.

Also offering a sizable selection of Sale merchandise, Lacoste; the hat originally ($45, now $24.99) and gloves (originally $40, now $27.99) shown below definitely qualify as Pretty in Pink.

Nautica has a solid selection of discounted merchandise in their online Sale section.  We simply adore the Girls Anchor Print Skirt is now $14.99, originally it sold at $30. We also like the Girls Signal Flag polo.

Two things we fell in love with: the Baby Anchor Print Hoodie (now $14.99) and the Baby Dreamer Sweater Coat (now $21.99)

The item that really sent us over the moon? The Infant Plaid Trim Onesie.

If that doesn’t qualify as Prepalicious we don’t know what will; it is off the charts on the Cute-o-meter. (It is also only $9.99.)

We have an update to the Jimmy Choo for H & M post from Friday: it was bedlam at most H&M stores when the collection went on sale Saturday.  In Vancouver shoppers camped outside the store.

From a MarketWatch story:

“…the greater part of both Choo’s ladies’ and men’s collections sold out…. Even in Madrid, the epicenter of one of Europe’s most recession-battered economies, plenty of women and men could be seen toting glossy blue H&M bags Saturday afternoon.”

Below, Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg was among those shopping the H&M on Fifth this weekend.

Speaking of Gossip Girl, many of Ms. Trachtenberg’s costars were seen at last night’s private screening of ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee‘.

“Penny Pinchers Go Preppy” & More Preppy Sales

Hello-Hello! Isn’t this turning into a busy week!

It is because of the slightly-controlled-chaos here at the Prepatorium that today’s post shall offer more pictures than prose, a circumstance we know you find heartbreaking. (Tee-hee.)

In today’s SOTTs (Sign of the Times) we refer to an excellent story on ‘preppy style’ from late last year. Yes, we somehow missed this one. We don’t know how this happened. We promise we shall never, ever let it happen again. Never. (Heh-heh. Silly Princess.)

The story, “Penny-Pinchers Go Preppy in Economic Downturn,” looks at how well retailers specializing in traditional clothing are faring.

“As trepidation over the economy takes hold of personal budgets and weighs on the minds of consumers, the timeless ethos of preppy has taken hold of the retail apparel sector…”

Prep style stalwart Brooks Brothers is mentioned, as are several other brands readers will recognize.  Anne Szustek’s story is a good read, found on a site new to us that we enjoy, Finding Dulcinea.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We have a few more nautical items we simply can’t resist posting, beginning with the Ship-Shape Area Rug from one of our favorite places for gifts and other goodies, and for window shopping (in a cyber sort of way), Blue Barnacles.

Blue Barnacles

BlueBarnacles.com

There are pages and pages of just rugs in themes we all adore. There are bright and cheery themes like the Nautical Flags, as well as more sophisticated motifs, as seen in the Moray style.

bo117_11240moray-sapphire

If seeking something a tad more casual in dinnerware for the cottage, the Code Flags melamine is an outstanding selection.

There are scads of tableware designs from beach-inspired to nautically inclined to everything in between! We leave Blue Barnacles with a peek at the Sailboat Bookends.

Of course, if looking for a nautical gift that is monogrammed or personalized, here at the Princess we can help you with goodies like the Anchors & Nautical Flags plate!

PreppyPrincess.com

Or the Anchor Stripes Platter, also loads of fun, an excellent wedding gift at $40.

Obviously the Boatman Geller Anchor notecards are a great fit, as are the Whitney English notecards.

Lots of store openings this last week, including the new J. Crew in Malibu. It’s official name is J.Crew-at-the-Beach, and it is not your average Crew. There are custom surfboards, and it’s a little different: no Men’s merchandise, and a ‘shop in a shop’ concept allowing special merchandise to be showcased. The new store is actually located in the Lumber Yard, brand spanking new outdoor mall. We shall count on Muffy Martini for a review the next time she heads to the beach!

Other retail-related openings? The new Barneys in Chicago (enormous from what we hear), Roberto Cavalli in Bal Harbour, and Palm Beach Garden’s Lilly Pulitzer.  For a amazing account of the Lilly opening, you simply must toddle over to visit Miss Janice; she has the most captivating photos. (Pssst – you do not want to miss her shots of the dressing rooms!)

And though technically open since last fall, Kenneth Jay Lane ‘officially’ celebrates his new store at the Plaza this Thursday. (You know, the somewhat challenged retail area at the Plaza….?)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We have a few sale reminders readers may find helpful; it seems every little bit helps in these challenging times, yes? We begin with Kate Spade now offering an Additional 20% Off Sale merchandise.

This is online only, and runs through April 24.  L&T is doing their Friends and Family event, with an “Extra 25% Off Almost Everything”.

The online promo code to use is FRIENDS. Also, J. Crew is running their Spring Sale.

And the folks at Bergdorf Goodman are also taking markdowns.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In closing we share a quote from a story in Sunday’s WaPo about singing sensation and internet superstar Susan Boyle. It seemed appropriate as a “Quote of the Day”:

“We’re all tired of 23-year-old models trying to sing on TV. Susan is a 47-year-old spinster who, by God, can sing,” said Michael Nicolson, 64, the bingo caller at the community center where Boyle has volunteered.”

Any readers unfamiliar with Ms. Boyle, click here and do stay for all 7 minutes; you’ll be glad you did.

On that fun note, may your days be filled with sunshine and smiles!
