Not only do they offer a snappy Halloween polka dot, there are several more masculine designs, a possibility for Dad this Christmas or Hanukkah?

Next on our list of new and fun finds here at the Prepatorium, our stationery that matches the oh-so-preppy icons on the 2012 Preppy Calendar ($12).  Here are some of the Preppy Calendar Flat Cards in two of my favorite designs, the Plaid Woodie from the month of March, followed closely by January’s Knotted Anchor.

Preppy Calendar Flat Note Cards at PreppyPrincess.com

Of course the delightful designs are by the very talented Shannon of the Preppy Ladybug, she created all of the artwork for the Calendar. She has also created these snappy Preppy Calendar Address Labels ($4.50 and up). We show the Argyle Christmas from December (you know you need some of these!), May’s Seersucker Tote and the Polka Dot Wellies from April.

Preppy Calendar Address Labels at PreppyPrincess.com

There are also darling Foldover Note Cards, we don’t have them all on the site yet, they should be there before the weekend is over.

(The poor Consort, he is typing just as fast as his fingers can fly while building the pages.)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Our final item today, can you guess what it is and who is all excited about it?

Jonathan Adler at PreppyPrincess.com

That’s right, Silly Tilly is all gaga over her new Jonathan Adler dog mats, only $12.50 and very durable, the mats come in four vibrant designs.

One last note:

Lilly Pulitzer Agendas at PreppyPrincess.com

Our wildly popular Lilly Pulitzer Agendas are back in stock, we have them in both Large and Pocket size in several of this year’s patterns.

On that note we say goodbye until next time, may your weekend be wonderful!

A Grace Kelly…Pen? Also, Edgy Prep Styles & A Cute Kitty

Hello-Hello, happy middle of the week, we are having a splendid early fall day, hopefully you are enjoying the same.

We begin today with a look at a new “Grace Kelly Collection,” this one from luxury pen purveyors Montblanc. The new line was launched earlier this month at a gala in Monaco.

Below we show one of Princess Grace’s daughters, Princess Caroline, with Princess Charlene as they look at pieces from the collection at the party.

Also on hand at the gala, loads of celebrities, including Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl as well as actress Daryl Hannah.

Montblanc donated $1 million to the Princess Grace Foundation as part of its arrangement to use the late Princess’s name and likeness, the Foundation helps support young musicians, actors, designers and dancers.

The collection includes a watch with hundreds of diamonds.

Montblanc

As well as a necklace, if looking for this in your Christmas stocking it will set your savings account back a bit, $226,100 if you would like to hang it about your neck. (We admit to liking the pink sapphires, we have those in our engagement ring and wedding band.)

Montblanc

Of course there are writing instruments,below we show one of the pens, a limited edition of 29 have been created.

Montblanc

Full disclosure: The Consort has carried the same Montblanc pen since 1972. However, there are not any diamonds on it, nor will there be.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene will actually make their first official visit to the US in November on behalf of the Foundation, they will officially award scholarship recipients.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Next today, a fast glance at a label we previously hadn’t been aware of, Sandro.

Sandro Fall 2011

The Parisian company is opening its first US stores next month and we thought we would share a few styles from its fall collection.

Courtesy Photos

Definitely not what we think of as classic preppy style, much more along the lines of what we call edgier prep, the styles offer strong, clean lines.

Sandro is not carried at a broad variety of outlets, two standalone stores (womenswear and menswear) will open on Bleecker St. in October, an ecommerce site also will open this fall, in November.  The company plans to open several more stores in the US. Right now a very few Bloomingdale’s offer Sandro, you can also find a limited selection at Net-a-Porter.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also today, having established our inexplicable adoration of all things fondness for Hello Kitty we wanted to bring you up to speed on two additional collaborations. Previously we wrote about the partnership with Liberty London on a makeup collection, now more products featuring the cute kitty are available at the venerable retailer, including some of the label’s famous fabric line.

Liberty London via Elle Decor

Hello Kitty has also partnered with retailer Forever 21. (You know, the place yours truly is afraid to enter, for fear there will be a booming announcement over the loudspeaker “Attention eviction crew, we have an unhip older woman on aisle five, please remove her immediately!”)

Hello Kitty Forever 21

The collection launches November 21,

Some of the styles look darling for the younger set, we can see the sweaters on any number of young ladies we know.

In keeping with Forever 21’s pricing policy all pieces will be priced at less than $30.

With that we say goodbye until next time!

An Exciting New Product at The Princess

Hello-hello, it is an exciting day today here at the Prepatorium, we are all gaga about the release of a new item we have just had produced: behold, The Preppy Calendar:

The Preppy Calendar 2012

The 2012 Calendar is a joint project with The Preppy Ladybug, one of our most popular vendors.  A look at two of the months:

The Preppy Calendar 2012

Proudly made in the USA, the Calendar offers twelve months of oh-so-preppy designs, some readers may recognize the deft hand and fabulous artwork of Shannon, the creative whiz behind The Preppy Ladybug.

The Preppy Calendar 2012

Argyle, madras, and seersucker patterns are all part of the Calendar, it comes in a clear acrylic case that converts into an easel so it sits perfectly atop your desk, or anywhere you want to put it.

The Preppy Calendar 2012

Best of all? The price. It is just $12 and comes with our signature grosgrain ribbon tied around it, so it makes good gifting for the preps on your list.  The Calendar is available now at The Princess or at The Preppy Ladybug.

Do forgive us if we’re a little goofy over our newest product, we have been working with Shannon on it for so long we are tickled to actually see it on the site!

That’s it for today, until next time may the sun be shining and the cool breezes blowing in your corner of the globe. :)

Target’s New Designer, That New Gossip Girl, Stella & Dot Adds Handbags

Hello-Hello, and happy top of a new week!

It has been a little busier than normal here at the Prepatorium, more on that later. But first, we have a quick look at the newest addition to the Gossip Girl cast. Although we don’t watch, a number of readers are fans, so we attempt to stay abreast of developments on the show, below we see Elizabeth Hurley shooting a scene with Chace Crawford last week.

Flynet Pictures via The Daily Mail

The show is in production for its next season, shooting on the UES. Ms. Hurley plays a character named Diana Payne,we also show Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley working on the set last week.

Splash/AKM Images via The Daily Mail

The new character is apparently that of a ‘media mogul,’ obviously a very attractive one.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Next, word from Women’s Wear Daily (subscription req’d.) that Le Boutique Targét is adding another designer line, this one from Gwen Stefani. The Harajuku Mini collection will debut in November, with pieces for “babies, children and tweens,” according to the trade publication.

Courtesy Photo via WWD

Prices for the line will run $3.99 to $29.99. Sharon Edelson’s story points out that Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. collection is one of very few successful fashion endeavors being done by celebrities.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Next on the menu today, a look at a new accessories collection from a company called Sloane Ranger.  The line is just being launched, from its website:

“Inspired by the streets of Sloane Square, It was time to bring the Sloane’s effortless cool and confident styling across the pond.”

Many readers remember Princess Diana as the most well known individual associated with the moniker. Here are a few of the company’s iPad/Netbook cases, retailing at $20.

And here are some of the belts being offered, they run $18.

Thoughts on the new wares? Intrigued? Yawn? Cute?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Women’s Wear Daily also has word about Stella and Dot, the jewelry and limited accessories line sold through private trunk shows. The company is adding handbags to the merchandise its stylists will be offering, below we show one of the bags.

Courtesy Photo via WWD

The initial handbag collection will consist of five bags, here is more from the WWD story:

“A clutch; a convertible, three-way style; a cross-body bag; a wristlet, and a key pouch will comprise the first collection. Prices start at $44 for the key pouch and go up to $258 for the convertible bag. “

Stella and Dot already offers jewelry totes and rolls.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Finally today, one of the reasons we say the weekend was a little chaotic.  Facebook fans have already heard that we hired a new shipping manager, seen on the job below overseeing Friday’s shipment of Lilly Pulitzer Agendas to Princess customers.

Courtesy Tilly T. Bulldog

It was good to have new personnel on the job, we had quite a few Lilly Pulitzer Agendas to get ready for today’s shipping run.

Above we show boxes being prepped for shipment, below, some of the boxes ready to go.

The Prepatorium

And more boxes filled with Agendas going out today.

The Prepatorium

Of course, with this many orders one counts on the shipping supervisor.  You’re wondering where that employee is aren’t you? So were we.

Caught Red-Pawed

We finally located her, tracked by the sound of her snores.

Honestly, you just can’t get good help these days.

Le Boutique Targét: No Longer Cool? Also, Prep-Friendly Flash Sales This Week

Hello-Hello, welcome to a Wednesday here at The Prepatorium.  Is everyone melting all aglow in the beastly warm temps?

Via BrandChannel.com

We begin with a question raised in today’s Journal; the paper asks if the store has become “More Target Than Tar-zhay?

A series of recent stumbles at Target Corp. has some retail experts questioning whether the cheap-chic discounter is losing its cachet.

The chain that made it trendy to shop for low-priced designer clothing and mod lamps while picking up detergent and toothpaste has been struggling to gain back its pre-recession sales strength.”

The story goes on to detail struggles the retailer is having getting customers to buy clothing and home items, two categories that not only provide higher profits, they helped set Le Boutique Targét apart from Walmart and other discount stores.   More from Ann Zimmerman’s story:

Some of Target’s struggles may also owe to the changing competitive landscape. Kohl’s Corp. and J.C. Penney Co. in recent years have taken a page from the Target playbook, adding low-price designer clothes from Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren and others.

We chat about Target with some frequency in this space, and have been vocal about quality concerns related to the company’s designer collaborations. We have also said the retailer still doesn’t seem to have recovered from Isaac Mizrahi’s departure, he had a very deft design sense that translated well for Target’s demographic. To be sure, there are still fun, fashionable items, like the Merona Rain Boots shown below.

Target.com

But the boots are not an original design, to say they are “derivative” of popular classics would be an understatement. There’s no question the collaborations have been very interesting to watch, but when it comes to the bread-and-butter styles the retailer needs to offer every day, the confident, whimsical touch seems to have disappeared. Back to the article:

“In the past year, middle and upper-end retailers bounced back while Target lagged behind. “Macy’s is winning in apparel and Bed Bath & Beyond has picked up a lot of market share,” said Ms. Shapira. Home furnishings are “doing very poorly at Target. In a world that no longer has Linens ‘N Things, you would think Target would have picked up some market share.” (Linens ‘N Things closed its stores in 2008 but exists online.)”

This makes us wonder, are you still popping in to shop at Target? Have you decreased your visits, perhaps transferred spending to other stores? Or is everything much the same?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We have a few more retail-related tidbits, beginning with tough news for Talbots, the company’s stock was down yesterday by 40%. Women’s Wear Daily has more:

“…the company said sales and traffic have continued to “trend negative” so far in the second quarter, when it expects continuing high levels of promotion and markdown activity.”

“Increased promotional activity” is marketing speak for price cuts, while that can mean great savings for those looking for bargains at the struggling retailer, long-term it doesn’t bode well for the brand. This is how the Talbots’ home page looks today, obviously a promotion is underway:

Talbots.com

If you visit Talbots’ Facebook page you will see a broad range of customer comments on the ‘wall,’ many of them referencing quality concerns as well as design and/or style issues. Recognizing that human nature dictates negative comments will outweigh the positive, the Facebook wall still presents a capsule look at a troubled brand, we hope Talbots is able to turn things around.

Our other ‘shopping business’ headline involves Lilly Pulitzer’s new owner, Oxford Industries, that company also reported financial results this week. Those numbers were very good, exceeding already-positive expectations. Much of the increase came from solid sales at Tommy Bahama (also owned by Oxford), but Lilly Pulitzer contributed to the growth as well, here is more from WWD:

The company credited the sales growth to trendy spring and summer product, as well as to a burgeoning effort to expand the brand’s consumer base through digital and social media efforts.

Speaking of Lilly, many fans are headed to the Warehouse Sale that starts tomorrow in Pennsylvania; if not able to make that event, online discounter RueLaLa is doing another Lilly flash sale beginning at 11am (EDT) on Friday.

RueLaLa.com

For those not familiar with RueLaLa, the firm offers online-only sales; the invitation only (cough-cough) events run for a limited time, usually three days. A word of caution however, popular pieces can be gone within 2 -3 minutes once a sale opens.  (If in need of an invitation, just click here.)

There are actually several more prep-friendly events this week at RueLaLa, including a Sperry sale that starts at 11am tomorrow (Thursday, 6/9), as well as a sale of Bill’s Khakis and Atlantis WeatherGear.

Via RueLaLa

The Consort has a keen interest in the Bill’s sale, we’re guessing he will be firmly planted in front of his desktop at 11am tomorrow,  that’s when the sale gets underway.  In addition to the Lilly sale Friday, there is also a sale on Preppy Plates.  Because this could be confusing, we’ll recap the RueLaLa sales:

  • Thursday sales: Sperry Top-siders, Bill’s Khakis, Atlantis WeatherGear
  • Friday sales: Lilly Pulitzer, St. John swimwear and Preppy Plates

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A quick note about a new line of ties and scarves from a company called Figs. We mention them not only because they make handcrafted goods of very high quality right here in the USA…

Figs

We also mention them because of their philanthropic policies: for every tie or scarf sold a uniform is donated to a schoolchild in Kenya or Tanzania.  From a post in Valet:

“The brand’s founder, Heather Hasson, is an avid traveler and was in Africa a few years ago when she learned that many kids there weren’t able to attend school simply due to a lack of funds needed to purchase a requisite uniform.”

We first learned about the brand over at our friend Madeleine’s blog, Ms. Hasson is her cousin.  Click here to read more at Madeleine’s blog or here to see the Valet post in its entirety.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

For those seeking a little something for Father’s Day, we offer two random ideas, the first we fell upon while searching for something else entirely at Jack Spade.

The company offers several accessories with a nautical touch, including a business card holder and passport case in the firm’s embossed anchor pattern.

The second idea is one that The Consort and I love, Baseball Cufflinks created from an official MLB baseball that was used in an actual major league game.

J. Peterman

We found them at J. Peterman, at $150 they are not inexpensive, but they do look nifty.

Goodbye until next time!

Say Goodbye to Two Gossip Girls, And It’s Round Two for Princess Beatrice’s Hat

Hello-Hello, happy middle ‘o the week to everyone.

We are brief again today, beginning with an update on everyone’s favorite faux-prep school show, Gossip Girl.  From the Ministry of Gossip blog:

“”Gossip Girl” actresses Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr — the two bad girls from the wrong side of Manhattan — are leaving the CW show.”

Below we see Ms. Szohr (L), and on the right, Ms. Momsen with co-star Ed Westwick.

Splash News (L)/The CW (R)

(From what we gather this this isn’t much of a shock for those who watch the show, unfortunately your Princess Ignoramus is not up to speed on any all things GG.)

Another Gossip Girl star has been busy this week.  Chanel showed its Winter 2012 (eek!) cruise collection in Cap d’Antibes, and “brand ambassador” Blake Lively was on hand. Below she is seen at the dinner with Chanel Pooh-bah Karl Lagerfeld.

Kristy Sparow/Getty Images

For the “Collection Croisiere 2012″ show Ms. Lively was in a more revealing ensemble, we show her with Monaco’s Princess Caroline and her daughter, Princess Alexandra, they attended the event as well.

The setting for the show was the storied Hotel du Cap.

Dominique Charriau/Getty Images

Many of the looks were understated elegance at its best.

However… we are constitutionally incapable of contemplating next winter’s resort collections when we have yet to experience spring’s arrival.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In today’s Bits & Bytes:

Boyle + Gardner for The Wall Street Journal

Saturday’s Journal carried a solid story on a preppy basic, the ribbon belt, explaining that “…now, however, the ribbon belt has pretty much gone back to the rarefied realm from which it came.”

There is also news that “celebri-chef” Paula Deen will launch another home line, separate from her furniture collection.  Launching next spring, the new group will include bedding, bath, lighting and decorative accessories.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

One quick OPB (Official Princess Business) note, in the next several weeks we’ll be sharing scads of new goodies being unveiled at the National Stationery Show. Here is a an early look at pieces from the new home acrylics collection we will be offering from Boatman Geller.

Coming Soon at the Princess from Boatman Geller

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Our final note today involves everyone’s favorite chapeau. (BTW, can we just say there seems to be *a lot* going on in this photo?!)

Chris Jackson/Getty Images

It seems Princess Beatrice’s fascinator is going to be auctioned for a good cause.  Sarah Ferguson is on Oprah today, and during the show she apparently shares the news the hat will be listed on eBay, with proceeds being donated to UNICEF and Children in Crisis.

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

There you have it.
