Hello-Hello! Today we are doing a OTT (One Topic Tuesday), business and volunteer obligations make brevity necessary. The theme of our post? Kate Spade, the brand is celebrating its 20th anniversary,
It doesn’t seem that long ago the company arrived on the fashion scene. I love the backstory on how the brand was born, more from this Women’s Wear Daily piece.
Before they were Kate Spade the brand, the Spades were college sweethearts from the Midwest, she from Kansas City and he from Arizona. They came to New York after graduation to pursue fashion and advertising.
Below, Kate and Jack Spade.
Back to Jessica Iredale’s story:
One night over dinner at their favorite Mexican restaurant on the Upper West Side, they were talking business ideas and “Andy said, ‘Why don’t you do handbags? You love handbags, accessories,’ ” recalled Kate. “And I said, ‘It’s not like you can just start a handbag company.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, why not?’ ”
One of my favorite things about the brand – it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Who didn’t love the black cabs in London they decorated?
Color is a major part of any collection.
This spring’s palette is rich and vibrant, it looks like candy or ice cream.
For those who enjoy the brand’s scents, here is a peek at the new one, “Live Colorfully,” launching in April.
There will also be a capsule collection of clothing tied to the perfume.
The company has also licensed its name for a number of endeavors, including home goods.
Your trusty scribe remains extremely rather fond (ahem) of Kate Spade shoes and handbags.
In an interesting marketing twist, there will also be a Live Colorfully capsule clothing collection. One FYI for those in a shopping frame of mind, the company is doing one of its online only flash sales.
We can only hope Kate Spade is around for at least another twenty years, that would be a lovely thing.

With apologies to our Princess Facebook friends for the repetition, we leave you with this:
That would be the perfect solution for those with a pooch determined to drink from the… well, you know. And if you’re a cat owner, it works for them too!
If interested in the wacky drinking bowl, here is a link to the product on Fancy.com (to be honest, I couldn’t tell you if this is a ‘members only’ site or not), I’ve never purchased anything at the site, but friends have said good things about it. They always have quirky things that are fun.
Until next time, g’bye!
Happy birthday to Kate Spade!
I loved this post, Susan! This Christmas I treated myself to my first Kate Spade item — a classic black purse 🙂 I plan to buy more when I can!
P.S. Happy belated birthday! 🙂
