More Friday Fun of the Olympic Kind

Hello-Hello, and happy weekend. We are *very* brief today, business is crazy (no complaints, we love it!), we’re just crushed for time.

As always, watching gymnastics this week has been fun. Below we see Team USA members celebrating after Aly Raisman’s floor exercise, they knew her performance clinched a gold medal for the U.S.

Here we see Gabby Douglas with her very own Corn Flakes box, soon you will be seeing them at your local grocery store.

In this day and age you can surf online and find all sorts of things, Gabby’s website has earlier photos of her, like these from 2007 (L) and 2008.

For those who remember the Magnificent Seven from the 1996 Olympics, NBC is running a special about them tonight at 8pm EDT.

(For those needing a refresher on the Team members, they were Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Kerri Strug, Amy Chow, Amanda Borden, and Jaycie Phelps.)

Below we see Gabby with Mary Lou Retton, Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin.

The talented young woman has been tweeting from the Games, and re-tweeting (re-posting) what others have tweeted/said at her or about her, including this congratulatory comment from a rather well-known swimmer.

She also shared this tweet from a winter Olympian, Kristi Yamaguchi.

Amid all the hoopla, Gabby’s twitter feed also shows how she remains centered.

And how about all of these Medal Moments shared by Team USA on its Instagram account?

Of course, there have been a few issues with NBC, prompting the “NBC Fail” news coverage, blog stories and twitter posts, like these.

Remember that IOC-run Olympic Athletes “Hub” I shared last Friday, the one designed to show all the social posts from athletes? There’s been a bit of an issue with bandwidth, not from athletes tweeting, but the public, more from Reuters.

(Reuters) – Sports fans attending the London Olympics were told on Sunday to avoid non-urgent text messages and tweets during events because overloading of data networks was affecting television coverage.

The IOC spokesman conceded that asking people not to send messages at key moments “may not have an awful lot of effect”.

We leave you on a more fun note, gold medal swimmer Missy Franklin’s patriotic manicure.
