Gossip Guy Updates, Luxury Baby Clothes & An Homage to Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Hello-Hello, and welcome to a Tuesday here at the Prepatorium.

We have multiple tidbits to share today, most are of the hit and split headline only variety, with apologies, we are pressed for time.

1) It isn’t only the summer solstice, today also brings something of a holiday for many:

Lilly Pulitzer

It’s National Wear Your Lilly Day, and regardless of the weather, Lilly Lovers everywhere were sporting the vibrant hues and prints.  Below, the understated elegance our pal Lisagh was going to be wearing.

Here’s a peek at all of the fun back at the Pink Palace (Lilly Pulitzer headquarters).

2) This Saturday we enjoyed a story in the Journal looking at the increase in children’s clothing collections from luxury brands.  From Sameer Reddy’s story:

“With the launch of several children’s lines from mega fashion brands like Fendi, Lanvin and Gucci, however, parental projection is going to a new level, with mini-me’s dressed to impress rather than for recess.”

The piece is accompanied by a number of photos with fashion montages styled many ways, including “Preppy Baby” (L) and “Hippie Baby” (R).

It makes for an interesting read, one we happily recommend; click here for the entire story.

3) It’s Men’s Fashion Week again and there are reports Gossip Guy Chace Crawford walked the runway for Versace at yesterday’s show in Milan. As best we can tell he did *not* actually model for Versace but he did attend the show.

4) Another Gossip Girl star, Penn Badgley, has been chosen for the lead in one of the upcoming films about musician Jeff Buckley, prompting rumors he may need to leave the show to accommodate the production schedule for the movie. (Gasp.)

5) Theminute-by-minute (almost) schedule for the Canadian portion of the upcoming Royal Tour in Canada is now available, click here to see the details.

What sounds like a must-see exhibit for anyone who is going to be in southern California is now open, “LBD (Little Black Dress) An Homage to Breakfast at Tiffany’s” can be seen at the FIDM Museum.

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising show isn’t huge, but looks at a subject matter near and dear to our heart, who doesn’t appreciate the beauty of a LBD … or several? Here is more from All the Rage:

“Standouts include Hubert de Givenchy’s line-for-line re-creation of the “Tiffany’s” dress (on loan from Hubert de Givenchy Couture) and glam takes on the staple from Christian Dior, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Madeleine Vionnet, Valentina and L.A.-based designers Monique Lhuillier, Kevan Hall and Chan Luu.”

We hadn’t realized there were actually 4 of the Givenchy dresses made for Audrey Hepburn. The exhibit runs through August 13, and best of all, it is free.  For more you can also visit the FIDM Museum’s Shop page on Facebook.

There is also more about the exhibit at the FIDM blog, it looks like a delightful way to spend one’s lunch hour!

On those lovely images we say goodbye until next time, may your day be as bright and filled with fun as the Lilly everyone is wearing.

  1. Very excited about the LBD exhibit because, umm, I don’t have enough in my closet, lol.

WISH a museum had stepped up to buy Debbie Reynolds collections auctioned off piece by piece and wish to visit Lilly Pulitzer World.

  2. Happy Lilly Day! Wow, Chace is looking rather dashing! Thanks for the yummy photo. 🙂

  3. Love Lisagh’s OOTD!

I cannot bear to think of Penn Badgley playing Jeff Buckley. It just won’t do. It won’t do at all.

The Saturday WSJ gets better every week.

  4. Never knew this…………….National Wear Your Lilly Day…………………..I will NOW ALWAYS remember to celebrate both the beginning of summer and Lilly on this day! Awesome!

  5. That silly boy. Hippie babies go naked…

  6. Love the ode to the little black dress, a must have in every womans closet in my opinion! And who doesn’t look good in a simple classic black dress?
Love the preppy baby..too cute! Even the hippie baby is adorable….OMG so young and they are already being pegged into their own little fashion style, too funny.
Love all things LP so in honor of it being wear your Lilly day I am in fact wearing my LP pants purely by coincidence I have to admit as I didnt’ know it was this special day so am glad subconsciously at least I paid homage to one of my faves!!
    Enjoy a wonderful afternoon:)

  7. I’m feeling bright AND cozy in my Lilly tennis sweater today… now if this darn chest cold would just subside, I’d be ready to welcome summer with a bang! xoxo

  8. Jen

I’m loving that pink Lily sweater. So cute. And, as summer seems to have yet to arrive in MN, I’m still wearing them.

  9. I think I have too much black in my closet, it loves my body though, and hides my imperfections.

  10. Preppy 101

I do believe there are countless times I might have been forced to stay at home had it not been for the LBD. 🙂 Great post! Love it. Xoxo

  11. Ooh, would that I could just pop over to FIDM to check that out. I’d not heard of the 4 Givenchys either…

As for baby designer wear . . . help me to understand. Can we blame the Kardashians, as indeed I’m inclined to do for most things?
