A Preppish Design Collaboration; We Just Say No to the Zodiac Change

Hello-Hello, it is a busy Thursday indeed, we jump right in with news of still another designer collaboration, this time it is a partnership bringing together prep icon Fred Perry and UK design star Richard Nicoll.

“Laurel Wreath” is the name of the limited edition collection, referencing the brand’s logo; below, sketches from the group.

The colors remind us of cotton candy or ice cream sherbet. (And we always have food comments because…??)

From an Elle story on the collaboration:

“The pastel palette covers sweaters, skirts, and dresses — all of which is topped off with sportswear inspired jackets that give a little nod to the iconic Fred Perry look and fit right into spring’s top trends.”

It is vastly different from the Amy Winehouse collaboration, blogged about here and here.

A few more styles as shown in FTape.

The new collection is scheduled to launch online and in stores January 24.  We must admit, the sweaters are particularly appealing from what we have seen thus far.

While not technically a collaboration, Barbour unveiled its Steve McQueen jacket Wednesday.

The piece honors more than Mr. McQueen:

It also commemorates this year’s 75th Anniversary of the waxed-cotton “International” jacket, here is more from Barbour:

“…the Barbour International – in original green and later classic black – was the jacket for competitive motorcyclists through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. It was the flagship style in a rich range of Barbour motorcycling garments. Steve McQueen, a devoted rider, wore one…”

The presentation was supplemented by Mr. McQueen’s son Chadd, and two of the late actor’s classic motorcycles.

Those eager for spring (or at least a look at next season’s fashions) might enjoy the company’s preview of its upcoming collections.

The spring line debuts January 18.

New York Fashion Week is inching closer, now less than a month away. That creates still more confusion in our addled little brain about the ever-growing batch of “pre-fall” collections being shown.  A bit of background from the Times:

The Pre-Fall Collections, being shown in New York over the next several weeks, arrive in stores in May to fill the gap between bikinis and furs.”

Because we have been chatting about things with an English connection (Barbour & Fred Perry are both UK-based), we must share a few looks from Dior’s pre-fall group.

The inspiration for John Galliano’s designs is the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Warfield Simpson.  (And yes, we railed against mentioned our confusion about the Pre Fall phenomenon in this post.)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We leave you with more Pretty in Pink lovelies.

Shoshanna

Remember the news that “the color” of the year is Honeysuckle pink? These three dresses from the Shoshanna spring line are just that hue, lush and lovely, we like it.

One final (final, final, honest it is) note that just crossed the digital transom: our Signs of the Zodiac are changing? WaPo put it well:

“So, you’ve spent your whole life happily smug in your star sign. You’re a fish! Swimming in two directions! You’re intuitive, imaginative, unworldly!  And then today’s Web is aflame with the news: You are not a Pisces. You are an Aquarius. Your star sign has been wrong your whole life. All along, you’ve been a freaking water carrier. This is not cool.”

It has to do with scientific-type information far beyond our capacity to comprehend, something about the moon’s gravitational pull.  All we know is that The Consort is not going from a Leo to a Cancer. Not. Happening.

Here are the hypothetically-new dates from Time.

“According to the Minnesota Planetarium Society, here is where the real signs of the Zodiac should fall. Get ready for your world to change forever.

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius:
Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces:
March 11-April 18.
Aries:
April 18-May 13.
Taurus:
May 13-June 21.
Gemini:
June 21-July 20.
Cancer:
July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo:
Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra:
Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus:
Nov. 29-Dec. 17.
Sagittarius:
Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

This really kind of falls into our You Can’t Make This Stuff Up category, don’t you think? Perhaps we should take our cue from Nancy Reagan, and just. say. no.

Harrumph.

ut oh. this zodiac change will put me and my mother under the same sign. she currently shares it with my husband. this could be bad. take care, Princess.

  2. I’m with The Consort on this one. I’ll be a Leo for life. 😉

  3. I’m completely pissed about the astrology issue and I refuse to change signs. I’m the last day of Scorpio and my husband is the first – now he’s a Virgo and I’m a Libra – I think NOT.

And only Amy Winehouse could turn a v-neck sweater into a dress. Just sayin. Love the Dior preview!

    Ophiuchus?! WHAT?!

Ummm. No. I am a Sagittarius. What is this nonsense?

  5. vickym

    Ophiuchus?

  6. jasmine

Well, my husband is still a Virgo but there is no way I am Gemini instead of a Cancer, NO WAY

I heard the Zodiac talk on WJR this morning ..Frank Beckman is ticked that he has gone from a Scorpio to a Libra. Very funny banter between Frank and his co-host.

This whole zodiac thing is ridiculous. Just ridiculous! I refuse to become some “new” sign!!

  10. What??!? From Gemini to Taurus? IMPOSSIBLE! I do not accept.
And I adore that Laurel Wreath collaboration.

  11. I totally fit the Scorpio traits and now I’ve been moved 2 signs away???? Um….no!!! Doesn’t so much work for me, people who decide such things.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend!!

I heard about this whole Zodiac sign change but had not looked at the dates until now. I feel strongly that I’m an Aquarius. How can I possibly be a Capricorn now? This is truly rocking my world. I may have to write about this. And, who are the powers that be that can make these kind of changes? Ugh!

  13. I was terrified that I was going to go from Pisces to Aquarius. That would be as ego-dystonic as switching retail allegiances from as Jcrew to Forever21. Scary!

  14. I say forget that crazy zodiac change nonsense and spring back into gear! If you want a head start and enjoy the Preppy Princess like I do, you may appreciate my blog too! It’s callielately.wordpress.com- Lilly Pulitzer lovers always welcome!

  15. I am not happy about going from Virgo to Leo! I am a perfect Virgo, or so I thought. I have some Leo qualities…Nevertheless, this just doesn’t “feel” right . Until Marie Claire updates the horoscope section to the new astrological signs, thus making it official, it will not be accepted by me!
