Twilight’s New Moon at Nordstrom, Sales of a Preptastic Sort

Hello-Hello and Happy Friday!

We are off shortly for a girls day visiting TQM (The Queen Mother), doing lunch and a movie.

We are a little late to the party with this one, many friends have already seen The September Issue, we are invoking better late than never privileges here.

One fashion trend that does not appear to have a prep aesthetic comes courtesy of the soon-to-be-released film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The movie release is November 20.

Also on the way, Twilight clothing at Nordstrom.

Officially the line is called The Twilight Saga: New Moon for BP (Brass Plum, Nordstrom’s junior collections). Some merchandise can be purchased in stores and other pieces pre-ordered online with shipping later this month.

If in need of a man around the house, the Twilight collection can help:

Edward

As we understand things that is Edward Cullen and he is part of the collection, all 6 feet of him. Be advised some assembly is required. If he isn’t your kind of guy, perhaps Jacob is more suited to your personal taste. He is also available (click here) although his style doesn’t appear as natty as Edward‘s.

For others as terminally clueless as TP, unfamiliar with the storyline and stars, here is a photo with Edward (actor Robert Pattinson) in the background:

One can also see actress Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella, and Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob.

The line features tee shirts and tanks, many displaying one’s allegiance to either Team Edward or Team Jacob.

Some pieces like this tunic carry phrases we presume to be integral to the plot or characters.

Nordstrom also has jewelry, including necklaces, charm bracelets, and bag clips like the one shown below.

There you have it. We suspect this is merely an early entry into the expected tidal wave of merchandising plans tied to the film. (For more on the Twilight Luna cosmetics line, here is our August post on that topic, this merchandise is available at any number of retailers. )

We want to alert readers to a number of Sales and Savings opportunities, beginning with the Saks Friends and Family promotion.  Use the code FRIENDS2 for a 25% discount on most merchandise, 10% off beauty items.  To recieve complimentary shipping on all orders, use the code OCTSHIP9.

Today’s Pretty in Pink also comes from Saks and is another Breast Cancer Awareness item, the Key to the Cure Tee by Michael Kors.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue

Another Princess favorite, Kate Spade, is also offering some fiscally friendly possibilities.

This sale ends October 25.  BTW, the Kate Spade store that opened yesterday in Tokyo looks charming, below we see work before the big celebration.

Another retailer offering markdowns, Tory Burch; this sale begins today (Friday, 10.16.09) at noon.

Pre_PrivateSale

Just an FYI, the URL is ToryBurchPrivateSale.com, not the standard website address.  These discounts end October 19.

One more online stop some may want to make, Gilt Fuse, another of the ‘members only’ online shopping sites that run sales for specific, limited amounts of time.  Gilt Fuse is the younger, hipper offshoot of Gilt. Today at noon the Betsey Johnson sale gets underway, and while much too cool for TP, we do like some of her styles.

Betsey Johnson Scallop Dress

The Scalloped Dress originally retailed at $425, it will be $144 during the sale.  We will be in and out of the office today, but if interested in an invite, just email me (thepreppyplanet at gmail.com, that is a deliberately left space in that address, so do delete it if using the address) and we’ll do our best to get one headed in your direction.

We leave you with some Friday Fun, compliments of a delightful blogger,   Miss Tied Up With a Black Velvet Headband, also known as TUWABVH.  Knowing our Logophobia and attendant complications, she directed our attention to this yesterday.

Something about the polo-playing ponies seemed disturbing, or perhaps it was the hubcaps. Either way, the image was posted on a website known as People of Walmart. The site’s “about us” page shares more on their raison d’etre:

“We personally have nothing against Walmart. We, along with most of America, shop at Walmart for nearly everything we need.  This site is simply a satirical social commentary of the extraordinary sights found at America’s favorite store.”

The site was originally pointed out to us some time ago by the always-on-top-of-things Misadventures of a Newlywed; naturally we typed in the wrong URL and landed in cyber-purgatory. Now we know better. Our thanks to both Misadventures and TUWABVH for keeping us from being perilously out of touch.

May your weekends be warm and wonderful!

  1. Thanks for the shout-out! Glad you enjoyed the car. And I still haven’t seen “The September Issue” yet, so you aren’t the LAST person to see it. Have a great time!

  2. Hate to say it, but I’m just not ready for the onslaught of Twilight marketing bound to accompany the movie release… I have yet to read one of the books (or see the movie?).

Thank you for the heads up about the Betsey Johnson sale on Fuse – I’ll be sure to head over there this afternoon!

  3. MCW

Thank you for your comment on my last post…it was the best advice and yes, I need an answer.
    Thanks for the sale updates!

  4. I hope you have a great day and enjoy the movie!

While I love Edward, the life size cutout is kind of creepy. I think that they’re going a little overboard with all of the merchandise for this movie. I guess it really is a cash cow for the marketing folks.

I really need to do some online browsing and take advantage of Saks F&F. I also might need to take a peak at what Kate Spade has in store.

I love the people of Walmart site. You never know what you will find over there! The polo car is quite comical.

  5. I just haven’t jumped on the twilight boat yet…

I think it’s perfectly fine that you haven’t seen The September Issue yet, I am almost always late to the party for that kind of thing, thus my starting Gray’s anatomy in the third season, my starting mad men this year, and my starting to watch the office last year… and my latest late to the party dilemma I just bought my first pair of high waist wide leg jeans and have no idea what or how to wear them, they are a dark indigo wash, and so much of what I own is black I feel like I don’t have anything to wear them with… Any suggestions?

  6. That car is so outrageous! I can’t stop laughing!

I hope you enjoyed The September Issue! I haven’t had the opportunity to see it yet.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  7. I must definitely check out the Kate Spade sale! Thanks for the reminder!

  8. Thanks a lot for the heads up about the Kate Spade sale! Oh – also, please do check out our new tennis style blog. It’s absolutely preppy, curious what you will think of it… Thank you, and thanks for a great blog! Best regards from Style Slam at http://styleslam.wordpress.com

  9. Hello All
    Have you heard about Morris?

Morris has gone blind and we heard about his plight at horseworlds.co.uk (pop along to the website and see the pictures of Moris)and are helping in in whatever ways we can and you can too.

I am not part of the charity or anything like that but I thought, what a wonderful thing to be able to tell your child Christmas Morning… You have halped Morris.

Have you thought of our horses and ponies that especially need our help at this time of year.

Why not make a small donation on behalf of your loved ones to an equestrian charity like The Suffolk based Horse Rescue (Registered Charity No 275428)they are dedicated the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of all neglected, needy or ill treated equines, horses, ponies and donkeys.

Morris, was born in Aberystwyth, Wales in 1969 a Welsh Section C gelding, his full name being Felinmor Morris Dancer and prior to his sight failing was used as a driving pony until he eventually ended up in a yard near Norwich, Norfolk. On further investigation he was found to be stabled for 24 hours a day and neglected by his owner who failed to visit him on a daily basis and he was only being cared for by the generosity of other people on the livery yard. As the owner was facing prosecution for abuse to her domestic animals she was quite willing to sign him over to the Charity to avoid any further Court proceedings. Following a veterinary inspection Morris was found to have operable cataracts in both eyes and he was then referred to The Animal Health Trust at Newmarket for specialist treatment. Examinations showed that the retinas of both eyes functioned correctly, and following the removal of the cataract and the insertion of a synthetic lens into the eye he could have a significant improvement in his vision, and thus the overall quality of his life. The operation went ahead on the first eye and was successful. He is currently awaiting his second operation when we have raised another £2900 to cover the cost after which and a suitable period of recuperation a special home will be sought for him. Anyone wishing to contribute may send cheques direct to the yard or alternatively use the facility on our web site.
