The Princess is a little down and depressed despite the lovely day; her countenance changed markedly upon learning that Saks Fifth Avenue is closing all of its bridal salons except for those at the Beverly Hills store and the NY Flagship. Hunh? This was simply one of the places where everyone went when looking for a wedding gown, even sometimes for a dress for one’s coming out. We didn’t end up purchasing our gown there, but still….sniff. Does anyone have a tissue?
According to the story in yesterday’s WWD, the company plans to hold Bridal sales starting in January, running through May, in the following locations:
“…. South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Houston; Atlanta; St. Louis; Tysons Corner, Va.; Richmond; Bal Harbour, Fla.; Birmingham, Ala.; Boca Raton, Fla.; Columbus, Ohio; Chicago; Indianapolis; Plano, Tex.; San Francisco, Short Hills, N.J., and Dallas.”
Some of the bridal designers carried by Saks that one will soon need to find elsewhere:
Amsale, Angel Sanchez, Carolina Herrera, Christos, Edgardo Bonilla, Elizabeth Fillmore, Jenny Packham, Junko Yoshioka, Kenneth Pool, Melissa Sweet, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, Platinum, Reem Acra, Tomasina, Ulla Maija and Vera Wang.
We also have news on Talbots: that struggling retailer has announced they will be opening 12 new outlet stores next year. According to the Boston Herald Talbots plans to open thirty outlets in the next three years. From our calculations it seems this would at least double Talbots outlet presence, but do keep in mind, we are talking Princess Math here.
Talbots is offering an Additional 30% off everything online, as well as free shipping and delivery with no minimum purchase. For example, the Stretch sateen sheath dresses that were originally $110, now running $48.99 and $41.99 before the extra 30% off. (The dresses would be about $34.30 and $29.40.)
Along with the Pop Clinton Street Nedette, the credit card case with the little change pocket, available in a pair of holiday colors:
The sales at both Steven Alan Collection and the Annex offer outstanding merchandise at very good price points. The women’s cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan is almost irrestible at this price, with a snuggle factor that is off the charts!
We are also fond of Lilly’s Snappy Skirt in Preppy Twill in our favorite shade, now $29. There seems to be a fair amount of Eliza B. and Eric Javits sale inventory remaining at the Cloister, along with their always-fabulous selection of merchandise.
The email volume being generated by “Sale” updates and notices is becoming almost unmanageable; are you all struggling with the same challenge? Barney’s is positively shrieking with their flyer about the Men’s Sale:
The email Bergdorf Goodman sent today was simply amazing. We cannot remember seeing any Bergdorf’s literature showing ‘as much as 75% discounts.’
This includes Ralph Lauren Collection and Ralph Lauren Black Label. The Red Tartan dress is available on sale for Infants Sizes 3, 6 or 9 months, as well as 9-24 month sizes.
Lord and Taylor is doing their Friends and Family discount, with an Extra 25% off Regular and Sale prices (with limited exclusions) in addition to 10% off cosmetics and fragrances. Use promo code FRIENDS at checkout.
The ‘helpful suggestions’ along fashion and style lines continue to be offered for the next First Family. In an interview with Express Night Out jeweler David Yurman suggests that his Belmont Shadow Watch could work for the next President:
“… He’s an Ivy Leaguer but not too preppy. His style is “international.” I’d like to see him wear a “Belmont Shadow” as a weekend watch. We have a new one coming out in six months.”
Call the Princess crazy, but we just don’t see the President-elect doing a $4500 “weekend wristwatch.”
A quick argyle update for everyone:
